Is this simply a device to make you want to play multiplayer?  Doesn't it work to the disadvantage of the single player?  If you are single player what is the best you can do, and is there a way to work around this limitation?  I consider it an unfair limitation since I don't like multiplayer/online games.

Multiplayer is not needed to get all endings including the breath scene. Only 3100 ems is needed to get the breath scene. So if your readiness is at 50%, you need to collect 6200 war assets. It isn't hard to get if you have a save import from ME2 and dlc's

If you choose to do a default ME3 playthrough, and not play the dlc's,  you will not be able to get the breath scene unless you choose to save Anderson, meaning not letting TIM shoot him. So collecting all war assets will give you about 2950 ems. When 'saving' Anderson, he gives you 200 war assets bringing your total over 3100. If you let TIM shoot Anderson, you lose 100 war assets and not be able to get the breath scene.

As a suggestion, I would head to Earth with at least 3200 ems in case you decide to let TIM shoot Anderson while still being able to get the breath scene

So the magic number is 3100.  That is good to know and seems reasonable.  A lot of the "ending charts" put the numbers much higher.  I have the trilogy which came out after the charts were made.  Did Bioware reduce the number?

I am playing my carryover Shepard from my first play through of ME1.  She is a Level 50 paragon Shepard.

BioWare reduced the number in the ME3 Extended Cut DLC. It is a free DLC (not sure if it is included in the trilogy bundle?) that expands on the original ending.

If you download the extended cut 3100 is needed to get the breath scene

If the extended is not downloaded, 4000 ems is required. You won't need to play multiplayer to get the number, but you would have to complete everything in the trilogy to get your ems that high. The most assets that can be gathered is about 8600. The 4000 will only happen if the player decides to "save" Anderson.

If you want TIM to shoot Anderson, 5000 ems is needed to get the breath scene. For that to happen, you will have to play multiplayer to raise your galactic readiness.

After playing through ME1, 2 and 3, and making mostly Paragon choices, scanning planets, doing side quests, playing all the DLC, I had nearly 4000 EMS without any Multiplayer. And yeah the free Extended Cut knocked down the breath scene to 3100 EMs needed.

Well, all that is good to know.  I tend to play a very through game, playing every mission and exploring everything.

Got 10K EMS only from the Multiplayer. This goes for the Alliance Spec. Ops Squad if im correct.

Imagine if every single Spec Ops member can survive all the platinum waves. They can wreak havok among the Reapers. There is no chance for the Reapers ground forces to win.  :D
