This is it this was the last straw what a mean b***tch is she
. In my current playthrough i kept Blackwall out of prison so he was flirting with Josie
all nice and wel he gave her flowers and stuff so during one of my quests where the b***tch and Blackwall were in my party she said something so mean to Blackwall
i do not know the exact words anymore but if someone would say that to me i would probably cry so for me no more Vivienne if i start a new character the next time i will not even talk to that guy in Val Royeaux anymore
That's all? Thom Rainier butchers an entire family, including children, and then runs away to leave the men he lied to about the mission to take the fall and everything is fine to you, but Vivienne calling him out on being a stalker and how he is not worthy of Josephine, something he agrees with, is going too far? He deserves far worse than a verbal lashing, and I actually appreciate Vivienne for being one of the few characters that don't let that monster slide for what he has done.
I'm confused. Was this supposed to be a Facebook post?
Yeah... Not exactly what I thought this post would be about ![]()

How many times are people going to try and kill her?
It's a bad pairing, yes, but I think their banter is amazing. Particularly because Solas has the exact same opinion on the Qunari as I do, and I enjoy how he roasts Iron Bull completely. I think it's an important exchange of opinions, ESPECIALLY since me, the Inquisitor, can't debate about the Qunari with Iron Bull.
I'm in the same boat. I recently finished a run through of DA2 along with the DLC Mark of the Assassin. The way Act 2 finished pretty much turned me off the Qunari for life. As Sten hinted at in Origins, the Qunari ultimately intend to conquer the rest of Thedas. I did Mark of the Assassin toward the beginning of Act 3 and my Hawke was rather peeved at Tallis for roping her into helping the Qunari.
IB, of course, is unlike Sten from Origins or the Qunari of DA2. After so many years of living in Orlay, he's pretty much "gone native." In the mission where you have to decide whether or not to save the Chargers or the Qunari dreadnaught, he seems to prefer saving the Chargers and becoming a Tal Vashoth as a result.
I should have known better, but doing my next-gen replay as rebel mage, I recruited her anyways. She just sits a Skyhold generating constant disapproval
I really wish a rebel mage got the option to tranquil her traitorous ass. Very fitting end to one that sells out her own people.

That "monster" jumped at the opportunity to dedicate his life to making up for all the deaths he caused and he ultimately was willing to stop running and face the consequences of his reprehensible actions. Blackwall's no saint, but monster is a bit much. Besides, Josephine is perfectly willing to be with a Dwarf who was criminal and a murderer.
There was a personal story there, but like with Vivienne's moment to shine not existing in "Wicked Eyes and Wicked Hearts" (a place where she absolutely should have shined) I feel like it was cut.
Taking her and Cole together makes you realize she had a pretty difficult Harrowing. Since Viv has a pretty high opinion of herself, I always thought she viewed it as: "If I can almost fail, anyone can."
Also explains why she's actually kinda afraid of Cole.
Oh god will people get a grip.
This is why i hate the rainbows and unicorn crowd who want there games with every thing all happy and nice with a pink bow at the end where everyone is submissive to them the leader and the universe must conform to the happy pixie powder magic where at the end everyone retires to the beach sipping drinks with umbrellas.
People think Vivienne is a b!itch and people think Cassandra is a b!itch, people think Morrigan is a b!itch and people think Miranda is a b!itch an so on. Every time Bioware makes a strong woman people QQ about how much they are a b!itch because they say "mean" things to people. Boo hoo.

The world isn't filled with rainbows and unicorns. Some people have strong opinions and express them. Every companion is an ASS to at least one other companion. Blackwell is a real dick towards Solas & Dorian so it isn't like he is an innocent. People have a real reason to be "bitchy" towards Blackwell. What makes Bioware characters so good is that they ignore the fraking rainbows and unicorns crowd and make all their characters with flaws hell most of them are very damaged people.
I also find that the vast majority of the Vivienne hate is from the RADICAL mage fans who honestly believe their mages are innocent and just a poor oppressed peoples, and Vivienne has the audacity to challenge their warped fraked up view. Sorry mage fans Bioware has gone out of their way to make sure there is no "side" in Thedas without blood and evil acts on their side.

To be fair, Origins Morrigan pretty much was a straight up mean b*tch. She disapproves of not purging the Circle mages and refusing to sacrifice elves in a blood ritual to mildly augment your health lol. Vivienne would certainly never condone that sort of shenanigans. She's just uppity, but never cruel.

I don't see a problem with that though I've never used the elves to augment my health. Didn't need to at that point since I was already a power to be reckoned with. hahaha

Jumped? He spent years afterwords as a sellsword until Blackwall found him and conscripted him into the Wardens. And when Blackwall died, Rainier didn't honor Blackwall's wish and go to the Wardens but instead played pretend for years until we meet him. No, monster is the perfect term for him.
Most notably, she's competent at politics and intrigue. Thus, she can do some damage if she acts against you. Better keep her close. As for how to deal with her, I think the leader of a large organization can't afford to act on emotion alone. You have to think things through, evaluate the consequences of your actions, and act only after some deliberation.
She may be "competent at politics and intrigue", but the game makes absolutely no use of these talents. I have an OCD impulse to grab all the companions, but after a lot of play through's with her, I finally just got tired of bringing her lame attitude along with the Inquisition. Didn't bother to recruit her.
I understand why they put her in the game, she offers perspective on the myriad situations the Inquisitor has to deal with, but in the end a snooty elitist sour puss is just a snooty elitist sour puss.

I think this has nothing to do with "strong women" and more do do with whether or not to put up with a jerk. They come in all flavors. I have no problem with Morrigan or Cass... they at times show some redeeming qualities... even compassion or empathy. Morrigan definitely has the right perspective when it comes to preserving the old ways and creatures of the past. Viv offers glib elitism, cranky conservatism and shows only interest when ultimately it will benefit her. If I HAD to put up with her, for the good of Thedas blah blah blah, I would. But I can (and do) just fine without her.

Yeah, Vivienne is one of those characters that I basically leave in Skyhold throughout the entire game. The one mission she does attend is the meeting with Fiona in Redcliffe, and that's just about it. I find myself favoring Sera, Varric, Cassandra and Dorian with the occasional swap out of Dorian for Solas or Iron Bull, and I just can't bring myself to exchange any of these for her, because she's usually the sour element in banter.

Do we know how long it was between the massacre and Blackwall meeting Thom? All I recall was Thom being tired of running and deciding to just wait there to die.
And I'm sure he'd have loved to join the Wardens as Blackwall wished (I believe he's rather pleased with that sentence if you send him to the Wardens. But he didn't think he'd be believed (he didn't realize that sending Rannier to get darkspawn blood was the first step of the Joining Ritual) So he did what he thought was the next best thing and try to be Blackwall, a far better man than Rannier was and who better desrved life than he as well.
Blackwall: Cole, if you knew what I am, what I'd done, why didn't you tell the others?
Cole: Everyone hides dead things. Everyone pretends. You wanted to fix it.
Blackwall: I'm a murderer.
Cole: You don't want to be. You made a new you. You are Blackwall. You killed Rainier.
Blackwall: If only that were possible.
Cole: You would stand between Rainier and the carriage. But you can't. It doesn't work like that.
Cole: So you carry the bodies to remember.
Blackwall: I suppose I do.

Not cruel? At least Morrigan was open to other perspectives (evident in persuasion dialogues and her evolution into what she is in Inquisition... distancing herself from how she was raised). Vivienne couldn't give two figs for the mages of Circles persecuted and abused by Templars and she amply demonstrated avoidance of being confined in the Circle by manipulating her way through political power circles.
In my main playthrough, I recruited Vivienne, got her approval up so that we were considered friends (even gave her the Snowey Wyvern Heart no questions asked), but I supported Leliana as Divine and got her elected, which to me should have broken our friendship since Vivienne is totally against Leliana becoming Divine.
Come Trespasser and were having Spa day and getting all chummy. Anyone do a similar thing, and how do you imagine Vivienne staying friendly with an Inquisitor who supports Divine Leliana/Mage freedom?
Vivienne isn't that petty. A mage Divine in teh SOuthern Chantry would be an unheard-of precedent. Her argument would be with Leliana, not the Inquisitor.

You recall wrong. After the massacre, Thom Rainier says he resumes mercenary work and isn't found by Blackwall until after a bar fight. He never got tired of running and waited there to die.
As I said, he didn't honor Blackwall's wishes and instead played pretend for years. His cowardice and arrogance is not a defense, and can be seen as an insult to Blackwall since for years the real Blackwall's family and friends never learned of his fate. He didn't even get a proper burial, since we find a skeleton with Darkspawn weapons through it right next to the badge you get for Rainier.
Wait, what badge for Rainier?
