4. That's an intriguing possibility. Could Solas have been a servant of Mythal in the past?

One of Cole's clairvoyant dialogues (I think it's in Trespasser) says he left a scar on his face when he "burned her off" (presumably talking about him removing vallaslin). Another one says something like "he didn't want to leave the dream, but he came when she called" (Solas isn't identified as being who Cole is talking about, but it's plausible). Finally, Solas will confront the Inquisitor at one point (after the Temple of Mythal I think) about what they intend to do with their political power as Inquisitor. If the Inquisitor says they'll share power and they trust their friends, Solas says something like "a mistake I know so well I can still see her face."

My theory: Original elves are spirits that became physical, like Cole. Powerful spirits like Pride or Faith manifested as the Evanuris. Solas wasn't interested in leaving the Fade, but was summoned by Mythal for something, maybe to help in the war against the Titans. He serves her for a while, but becomes disgusted with the system and starts his rebellion, removing his vallaslin in the process. Mythal is content to try and reform the system from within.

I think the recognition is akin to recognizing someone's accent being similar to your own: you know that person is from the same origins as you, but you don't necessarily know who that person is more specifically.

Additionally; if you haven't met Fen'Harel/Solas personally before, you wouldn't know what exactly he looks like, beyond some vague descriptions.

Though to be fair, there's all sorts of magic involved with this, so basic human logic might go out the window...

Seems like a wasted opportunity not to use him and have him at Solas's side.

Since he can die in DAI, it's possible that they can go the Samson/Calpernia route with him working with Solas and another Elf if Abelas is dead

I am actually curious if he really died when Morrigan stabbed him. Hope not. Tho Bioware was known for making replacements. Like after ME2's suicide mission

Are you 100% sure he died? Solas was not pissed off when Morrigan stabbed him and as he said "The first of my people do not die so easily" ;) !

He is a very ancient elf as you discover in his personal lore, so chances are he is not dead. That makes two very pissed off elves to hate my Assquizzy...who drank from the well...and punched Solas in the face. I think I'll change her name to Meathead.

Yeah I'm sure he's dead, unlike other people in the DA series his was not so ambiguous

If there is one thing to take note of in the Dragon Age series, it's that death is never quite as permanent as it should be. With his patron Mythal on the scene, even briefly, anything is possible.

Still, the last such resurrection to occur that confounded expectations was Lelianas' which is possibly connected with the Titan/Lyrium conspiracy due to her last message on a Not Divine, Killed in Origins Trespasser Epilogue:

"The lyrium sang thought into being. Now time is stale, and the melody is called elsewhere. Until I am needed. I am free."

That's why I think, of all the elves that could have been killed, Fenris from DA2 is the more likely to make a comeback as a possible new party member or returning npc. This would make sense if we are truly onward bound for the Tevinter Imperium and because the guy is literally laced with lyrium.

It's more complicated than I make it sound, but then again what isn't complicated in Dragon Age?

Yes, I think Abelas at the very least would live on as a spirit that could then find another host.   He also died within Mythal's Temple in the region of the Well.   That still had residual magic that seemed to manifest as Mythal herself.   It also curled around the Inquisitor's feet and made them glow like a lyrium ghost whether they drank from the Well or not.   So it wouldn't be too big a stretch of the imagination for the latent magic in the place to keep him from dying and then revive him subsequently.

As for Solas being Mythal's servant, well we see a lot of statues where they are together but he is in wolf guardian form, so at the very least he is probably her champion.    If he was the person referenced by Cole who "burned her off his face" that was likely after her death.   If he was bound to her as a servant, then it would not have been possible for him to leave her unless she allowed it.

See also the Canticle of Shartan, much of which is likely not about Andraste/Shartan at all but contains many elements from an earlier elven legend about a trickster warrior leading a rebellion against tyrants.   Substitute Mythal for Andraste and Fen'Harel for Shartan, plus Arlathan for Minrathous and it becomes very revealing, particularly as the next part of the story concerning her betrayal has Andraste being encouraged to go to a silver pool to gain wisdom for the battle to come, where she is said to have been captured.    Andraste was actually taken prisoner from a stronghold in Nevarra, so the story of the silver pool would also seem to be taken from another legend and rehashed to fit Andraste.   Silver pool = lyrium?

In the Canticle Andraste (Mythal) gives her sword (orb?) to Shartan (Fen'Harel) and says "Take this my champion and free our people forever."  An odd thing for Andraste to have said to Shartan but fits entirely with the idea of something laid upon Fen'Harel by Mythal that means he absolutely has to keep on trying to fulfil her charge to him.

2. He knew who Mythal was and knew that Fen'Harel did not kill her, so he knows who Dreadwolf is.

This,Abelas know who Solas is

Seriously?
-What about the blue spark that was evidently his soul released from his body?
-What about being an ancient being, more ancient than Corypheus?
-What about being into the temple of an Evanuris?
-What about being protected by Mythal?
More ambiguous than this...

He says himself that every time they awake there are fewer of them. Obviously over the years that they have fought to secure the temple they have lost manpower and obviously they die. We have no reason to beleive Abelas is a exception.. yet..

And blue glow doesn't mean anything. Eveything you kill in Inquisition fizzles out in a magical glow anyway.

He won't come back as he was, but you seriously can't imagine Abelas returning in some form? When Morrigan executes Abelas he is standing right next to the Well in a magical ancient Elven temple. The same Well that contains the collective will of all previous priests of Mythal, and you think that is the end of him...in the same game that can have Leli as a lyrium ghost?

I'm not thinking anything in particular. If I wanted to I could beleive everyone could just come back. I do however prefer to take scenes at face value until more data is gathered on it. So far the well has no history of resurrection so as far as I am concerned he is dead.

It's not about my ability to imagine anything, I could give you several reasons why some characters could return, but I hope Bioware will actually change and keep the few choices we got in Inquisition of any significance. Abelas' death is one of very few things that was not forshadowed by the narrative. Until I played through the game my fourth time and actually solved the Mythal temple puzzles I thought Abelas was always killed.

So I don't really care for fanfiction reasons why he might live. If Bioware want to make a RPG worth anything out of DA4 or 5 they will make Abelas an asset for good or ill that can play a role and not just some static apperance regardless of player choice.

I asked this question a while back in the Abelas thread or something I think. I remember thinking that he came across like he knew more than he was letting on, so I think it's very possible he did know who Solas was. Pretty sure he is dead if killed by Morrigan, though.

I saw a discussion in tumblr about this but it was an older post that just appeared when I opened the app and then moved down when the app refreshed to some unknown depths of tumblr history :( what's the theory on this? I always wondered if Abelas recognized Solas and in what regard? Is he clued into Solas' current spy network? Are they on the same page?

Nope. Elven Inquisitor with Solas strolls in and Abelas says to them both "you are not my people" and then says to Solas later "Elves such as you?" and Solas (along with the Inquisitor, who makes a plea also) says "yes elves such as me." All that's meant at this time is "Bro, don't write off your people just because they were changed by the Veil." Anything else is wishful thinking and reading too much into the matter, in my humble opinion.

No he actually knows Solas is an ancient elf because he refers to him as "one of our own" when he first sees him. At least he does for most races of Inquisitor.

But the tone in which he says "What, ElvEHN such as ~you~" makes it seem as if he is snide or sarcastic, and would have said the same in reply to any other modern elf or the Inquisitor had they also told them "Your people yet linger."

He doesn't say that with an Elven Quizzy, which just means he's talking about Solas's ears.

Honestly, I couldn't care less about Abelas, I just find it hard to believe that he would be that easy to kill. I mean, Morrigan basically just shanked him. An ancient elf. Probably the *oldest* ancient elf in the temple, aside from Solas (if you elected to take him)...but whatever.

The elves that survived post Veil are "ancient" in the sense that they were potentially around back then and found ways to extend their life, but they aren't truly that different (if at all) from modern elves.

He doesn't ever talk to or about Sera at all, so what? My point still stands. He (Solas) isn't singled out when the Inquisitor is an elf. Abelas tell the Inquisitor (and Solas if he's there) that the modern elves aren't worthy to be called his people. I think people tend to use hindsight and try to read things that aren't there. Clearly, during our first play through, Abelas is used as an example to point out that ancient elves don't see themselves the same way as the modern elves.

Abelas and his little troop are resigned to their fate and have witnessed the huge decline of their people - ones who used to rule the continent (if not the globe) consigned to little bands of ignorant savages hunted and enslaved by humans.

Riiight. Well then, if that's the case, killing Solas should be a cake walk.
