Issue with controller

A while back I had the possessed controller issue, which got solved by buying a new original PS3 controller.

But recently this new controller started presenting a new issue: when I go forward with the directional left stick, sometime the character won't move, or will move and stop, or will stop right after starting a print. It seems that depending on the movement I do, it doesn't work.

I have the impression that this game is kind of bugged in this matter. This is a new controller, original, that has less than 3 months.

I could try it in other games and see how it goes...

Anyone faced similar issues with a new controller?

For which system? My guess is PS3 or Xbox, and if it has happened twice in a row, I lean towards Xbox.

Quick advice:

- Test the joystick with another game. If any similar symptoms occur, it's the joystick. If you don't have another game handy, try using the thumbstick to navigate the console's menu without any games active. Check for any irregularities in how consistent the movement is.

- If it's the joystick and it is less then three months old, it should be under warranty. If it's microsoft, uh... be prepared for an unpleasant experience getting them to replace it.

- You may have to take some time to send them the joystick, depending on their warranty system.

- If you have had bad luck with two joysticks in a row, consider getting a third party device. I replaced my Xbox One joystick with a Rock Candy one. Sure, it is bright lime green and has a name that makes me feel like a high school girl with a "One Direction" lunch box, but it came with a 3 year warranty, and the moment anything went wrong, all I had to do was call them, send a photo of the receipt and a photo of the joystick, and they sent me a replacement.

Thanks for the advices, even though they were focused on Xbox when I stated "PS3 controller" :P

No issues though, sometimes we read things too quick and miss information. I do this quite often -_-

Not sure about warranty, it's a few days after 3 months, I bought it on Nov 7th. Would need to contact Sony directly, most likely :/

And in the meantime I'd have to use my possessed controllers.

Damn... I'm in a bad situation -_-

But first I need to test it in other games. I have some dozen games to test it so that shouldn't be an issue.

Pfft. Reading every word is for chumps!

I've been there. I'm on joystick #3 this year.

In my experience, PS 3 controllers are usually much more durable, and will tend to work for much longer. I admit, I think you have had some particularly bad luck. But given my history with Sony controllers, I would actually reverse my advice and say that, in spite of back to back duds, I'd still get a sony controller as a replacement (if they don't replace it under warranty, which they might if it has only been a few days since it expired.)

Yes, my previous controllers are like 6 years old. My God of War controller got screwed after my doggy dropped it from the couch. So indeed they are durable. But this one has on explanation.

Need to test asap to see what to do. I already got hugged by banshees quite a few times for not being to sprint for my life consistently.

You should definitely test out other games with it to see if it's a consistent issue. I've never had that issue on ps3 while playing me3  so I dunno if it's a game issue. Did it perhaps suffer any damage like a fall or something? You could check to see if the analogs sticks are fixed properly and fully in their sockets without any loose movements. It could be a software issue but I've generally found the dualshocks to be pretty reliable.

Also I would say that Sony and xbox controllers are generally considered to be the better alternative to third party controllers, if not the best. I find their inputs and analog sticks to be more precise and smoother than other controllers. I've also heard that they're much more reliable in the longterm.

One things I did notice is that there's a noise when I move the stick forward. While is cranked or something. Should I oil it?

:P

Ha well my old controllers had a really rough usage and suffered many falls! After some of these I noticed that the sticks were slightly loose and less responsive. But it was fixed when I was able to push them back in to their proper place. Hey anything helps right!

Airlocking the whole thing should work.

They don't make controllers like they used too. Though having said that, I don't think analog sticks have ever been able to stand the test of time.

I have 4 PS3 controllers and none of them work properly anymore.  The original, which was great for 6 years hard labour, developed a dead spot on the left stick. I bought a cheap 3rd party replacement which wasn't worth the money, and the two newer Sony branded controllers are replacements for two others which failed within the first six months. One now circles anti-clockwise when I run, and the other usually doesn't let me run at all as the omnibutton is unresponsive. I'm not buying another one at this stage, so anyone who plays with me can factor that in if I appear to be strolling around casually or engaging in some sort of bizarre teabagging ritual.

Just get a PS4 controller if you're planning on getting a PS4. What I did. Heck, I'd buy a PS4 DS4 even if I didn't plan on getting a PS4. Much better then PS3 DS3.

PS - buy it used too. Many controller second hand can be found in mint condition for less then half the price (hate how expensive controllers are). And never buy third party controllers. Ever. They're life span is always much less then first party ones. ie. all PC controllers I've bought in the past, and that's many, have often had issues within a month. I kid not. Third party are just there to take your money and laugh at you. And they laughed at me a lot. Because I'd buy many spare third party junk controllers just for spare parts as they each break down every month, lol.

That's actually a good idea, with a couple of minor issues:

- PS4 controller is a bit more expensive and I already bought a PS3 one 3 months back;

- PS4 PS button doesn't work.

Still, very interesting and I liked the idea. Then, when I finally get my PS4, I can buy a one controller one :)

^ A bit more expensive goes a long way for more enjoyment that comes with better ergonomics and easier aiming. I searched hard for a PS3 controller replacement to no avail until the DS4 finally came out.

That and if you plan on getting a PS4, you might as well get the hang of the DS4 now. And once you do, you'll never look at the DS3 the same again.

Did you try to use the Controller with a plugged USB Cable to eliminate any wireless issues?

DECT Phone, Router or other WLAN Devices nearby?

I had some issues with my DS4 Controller, but I could get rid of them, placing my PlayStation half a meter away from my Netgear WLAN Router.

Thumbsticks on both XBox and PSwhatever controllers tend to wear out and start moving on their own or becoming unresponsive, try a different game before blaming the one you're playing

Needs moar rapid-firing Scimitar mounted on it. :P

@Olivia Cockburn

My 9-year old controller was so worn out, I couldn't even revive or do 1234 objectives with it, because it was moving on autopilot all over the place.
