For those who aren't familiar with Origin Access.......it's kinda like a "season pass" but for EA titles. It gives you automatic discount when purchasing games & DLC, and allows you to try upcoming games before they're released. Progress & stats are also saved so you can pick up where you left off when the game is released. Right now, Unravel & Plants Vs Zombies - Garden Warfare 2 are available to try via Access.

It's only natural to assume this would include Andromeda at some stage since, I imagine, it would be one of the biggest attractions of the.....fiscal year.

Good idea or bad idea? I mean, a discount is always good - although I always buy my games from overseas because Australian digital stores are rip-off artists (charging us 90 bucks for a 50-buck game). But personally I'm extremely picky when it comes to games. Just because something is available to try doesn't mean I'll feel like trying it.

The only game I'd be interested in trying is Andromeda. I don't care about any other upcoming (announced) games.

I feel that those things are generally a rip-off. You can spin it as "Oh, I'm only playing ten bucks a month (disclosure, I have no idea what EA Access costs), but then I get ten bucks off some game I want." Three months go by, you buy the game you want, and you're still out twenty bucks for nothing because nothing else was very interesting.

On the other hand, I've only bought 4 brand new games in the last year and a half, so it's possible that my input isn't very useful.

^^^^It's 7 bucks a month and you can cancel anytime. And I've bought ONE game in the past 12 months, so you're way ahead of me in every department. Like I said I'm very picky.

I guess I'd up if I was planning on saving more then 7 bucks on buying a few games? I've done that for PSN when they did PS+ discounts on games I've wanted in the past.

I haven't looked at all the details, but if it is like the XB1 version you also have a discount on the game purchase if you buy digitally.  I was hearing people subscribed for a month get the discount and the early access to the game and then unsubscribed.  Now their policy could have changed since that was a year ago as well.

That kind of service doesn't sound very appealing to me.    It has nothing to do with the discount because I don't mind paying full price for games I enjoy.   However, I would actually be upset more by only being able to play just a little bit of the game and then have to wait for release date anyway.

I also tend to distance myself from the hype and coverage a game gets as it draws close to release.   I avoid all the spoilers and disappointment that hype tends to bring with it that way.

The main pull for this is the Vault where you can play any game that is in the Access Vault for as long as you want as long as you are subscribed to the program.

That list's going to need to get a lot bigger for this to be compelling.

Pretty much the only hinderance honestly. If you actually bought a lot of games in a given year it's a steal, if not, probably not worth it.

Mark my words though, its going to be a service a lot of companies are going to do soon...
