I have tested the mechanics of Scimitar, and they are a bit weird.

The most reliable way to boost the Scimitar's fire-rate (basically turning it into a mini-Piranha) is to find some hard cover (preferably the kind you sit down behind), hold the trigger button and repeatedly hit space. Each time your character gets out of cover, he/she fires a shot.

In general, the Scimitar seems to fire a shot each time when the character's animation changes (don't know how to say it better). It fires right after dodge animations, when you step on a stairway or use a power while holding the trigger button. With a batarian (and, presumably, any non-dodge) kit, it's sometimes possible to get the Scimitar to fire 3-4 quick shots by pushing space rhythmically.

The scimitar fires off shots if you even touch it while moving?

It's the teenage boy of guns.

Try to dodge while holding the fire button. The Scimitar shoots when you're still rolling, in the great tradition of Geth Hunters who love to shoot while dodging.

Your idea intrigues me.

The only drawback is that it requires that I use the Scimitar.

Here's a short video of "cover-fire" and "dodge-fire" of the Scimitar.

Have to admit, I'm impressed man. Thing is, can you actually hit anything with it?

"Dodge-fire" is probably useless for anything more than lucky shots. "Cover-fire" hits directly ahead, so there's more chance.

Sounds like the mechanic Geth-scumbag-rocket trooper uses to fire 2 or 3 missiles in short time.

I tried that, and also the running shooting. I managed to do it making really short runs between shots, just tapping it like pizza running didn't work for me. Unfortunately, the RoF is not much faster than just clicking, while it's a lot more difficult to aim. Marksman manual fire is still faster, too.

Nice demonstration video.........but...um,   nope.   Still nope.    I find using harsh language and throwing rocks at the enemies to be a better alternative to the scimitar.

Edit:  It does make for a nice baseball bat for turians & batarians.

Or... you could just run with something like the Claymore and do all that with one shot.

Barely any faster than regular shooting + piranha exists = Did I miss the punchline?

Now this actually makes sense. As well as Hunters shooting out of dodge.

And we've found a way to get back to those pesky geth :D

I tested the "cover-fire" and "dodge-fire" mechanics on another, non full-auto shotgun (the Eviscerator). They still work.

The "cover-fire" technique allows a nice spin-dance to be performed.

So, at long last, we've figured out the Geth Rocket Trooper's tricks.

I'm sure this will win us the war in no time! >8)

If this works for the Scimitar, then theoretically it should work for all guns.

I bet it should be tested by sober Cyonan, whenever he becomes available.

I object.

I believe this should be tested by drunk Cyonan while recording PuGs at the same time!

I'm about 3/4 of the way through a bottle of Captain Morgans and I am pretty tempted to play a few rounds =P

Drunk Cyonan is actually amazingly good at crunching numbers. I designed an entire point buy system in this state for a friend's pen and paper game.

I tested it for Krysae. The "auto-fire" part still works, but rate of fire doesn't increase (basically, you hold the button, dodge, dodge again, and only then it fires, unlike Scimitar and other guns from videos). It seems that fire rate and animation speed are two separate variables, and even animation cancel won't help you if the fire rate is nerfed.
