If I'm a biotic, I wanna fly, not use a jetpack.

Just an idea. The jetpack mechanics that are implied in the trailer is just fine, but lore-wise it becomes stupid if you're biotic who, if they're good, can levitate.

I'm thinking ME:A is an opportunity to really differentiate a biotic character from a technical character. Normal characters boost up using a jetpack and lose their shields upon taking damage and biotics boost themselves up with their biotics and upon getting shot it breaks their biotic barriers.

They could even make it so you're more vulnerable but agile as a biotic and more protected but clunkier as a normal character.

According to Freud, I think that means your biotics are having sex.

And if you're NOT a biotic, you have to make do with what you got:

It does make sense considering how taxing the use of biotics is (supposed to be). Besides, if we constantly fly around, won't it start to feel a bit silly? Like we're some super hero in space? Maybe not, but I fear it could.

The closest thing we've seen to a Biotic "flying around" is a slowed descent from like 20 feet up. Samara is one of the most powerful Biotics in the galaxy and she can't fly around.

No, you guys are missing the point.

A biotic can lower his mass (with the equipment), then use the jump pack to fly, while having all the thrust of a normal jetpack pushing almost no weight!

Just be careful not to jump to FTL by mistake...

Levitation is for monks.

Jet packs are for death from above melee attacks, finding sniper perches and hit hitting nova from 15ft up for roleplaying purposes.

I also think its a great way to quick travel if you have biotic charge. Fly along, see an enemy and zap, you're there. No more pesky mako.

While it could be achieved it wouldn't last long, a biotic jump however would be more plausible than flying around like green lantern(which would be fricken amazing). If biotic I want a biotic jump to replace the jetpack but still have the jetpack incase we pull a shep and get spaced.

Which is weird in itself don't you think? I mean the property of Biotics and the mass effect technology is being able to manipulate mass (also known as weight) with E-zero. And some kind of voodoo for Biotics. But you can't slow down your decent by decreasing your mass. Since objects which are very different in weight accelerate just the same. Okay you might argue that you have so much air friction that you wouldn't fall as fast. But I don't think you could decelerate a human shaped body that far. Even if it has one percent of it's initial body weight.

I could be wrong though, I'm not so good at friction calculations.

As for flying up, that seems to make no sense at all. I mean the way they portrait it there was no jump at all to make accelerate the body. And since a mass decrease would still need that initial push to get you somewhere. I haven't seen any movement like that, but the mass could be lowered enough to make this possible by a simple movement.

Now that I think of it, buoyancy could also work. But I would need the weight, atmospheric composition and pressure of the atmosphere and body volume to calculate what kind of mass the biotic would need to simply glide up.

Not flying, but I always liked the idea of doing stuff like safely descend from a 4-6 floor building like Vasir does it in ME2, or Samara. But maybe that's only possible if you're a master of biotics a.k.a Asari, I don't know. That kind of stuff would be cool I think, specially in a multiplayer environment.

Like Guardians in Destiny

It would be a good excuse to rip off yet another game that has solid mechanics.

Let's be honest, in ME universe biotics work the same way as telekinesis. If you watched Chronicle, then you know that if you're able to lift other objects into air with your mind then it's possible to lift your own body as well emulating flight.

I never got the if I'm biotic i should do this tech thing with biotics. I think the transition from shields to barriers when a biotic was a bad plan.  Unless they write something up about the armor piece that normally gives you shields being a power reserve for biotics why the hell would you exert your powers when your armor can just do it. Barriers as an additional short term boost in defense hey go for it. If they can build a jet pack into my armor unless the spot now had biotic power boost 3,000 ill get my jump jets from the suit not my powers. I'll save my powers for kicking peoples butts. Its like people want their character to be hit by the stupid stick a few hundred times so they can roll with the TM biotic on top of all their moves.  Use the damn tech and go past it with the use of additional biotics.
