Except your advisors straight up tell you that the mages will be long gone with the Venatori by the time you get there.
Also, the alliance was wildly unpopular with practically every mage there and its made clear only Fiona made the decision for everyone. Would any elf be totally ok condemning an entire group of people who had no say in their decision including CHILDREN to slavery and potential blood sacrifice?
Maybe PC thinks the advisors might be wrong about this. Maybe PC thinks it’s going to be easier taking down the Venatori from the outside. Maybe PC thinks there’s a chance the Inquisition could get the mages to escape the Venatori’s grasp through agents of Leliana or Sera’s friends (maybe getting in touch with Fiona? She didn’t look like someone who was overjoyed with the idea of the Circle children being slaves to Tevinter, she might be persuaded to smuggle them out.) Just because there’s no chance of it happening in game doesn’t mean the PC won’t consider it a viable plan.
Or maybe PC thinks that the mages went and allied with Tevinter and as such neatly shown themselves to be even less acceptable than the Templars (I think it’s a likely reason, especially for a rogue or warrior Dalish). Maybe PC looks at Fiona’s choice and decides there’s no way they’re going to work with someone who considers selling themselves (and others) into slavery even remotely acceptable. Maybe PC is scared enough of Tevinter to decide to put as many forces between the Dalish of Thedas and the Imperium, or they hate it enough that magic-hating Templars are a case of “the enemy of my enemy”.
The reason doesn’t have to be unarguable, I think; maybe Dalish PC is conflicted, too.
I mean, I agree with what you said, but the games gives us a choice, and if you want to explore the Templars' side, I think all of these reasons at least give you an excuse. (Not to mention that Fiona herself looked unenthusiastic about the "alliance" herself that I kept expecting her to secretly reach out to the Inquisition with pleas to get her people out of Tevinter's blackmail.)
