I had a thought the other day that really doesn't sit well with me and that is the possibility that there is only one Ark ship.

I think it would be best if there are multiple Ark ships and that they would be sent in coupled pairs to multiple galaxies.

Then the Mass Effect Universe wouldn't be limited to the confines of Andromeda going forward.

Andromeda is massive though, it is roughly 220kly in diameter, it has between 40-120kly on the milky way.

Does it really count as all the egg being in only one basket if the ark is a backup plan in the first place?

 

In any event, I err on the side of assuming that sending just one ship to Andromeda came at a massive cost and effort. I'm not sure the luxury of sending multiples would even be on the table. But who knows.

I dunno, I mean, I feel like if everyone tried to travel to Andromeda in eggs, they'd just crack and everyone inside would suffocate and die. And for my money, that's the worse ending you can choose.

I thought the Ark was a new basket in itself? If humanity can't defeat the reapers at least they live on in another galaxy

With the implication that the the Ark ship was sent out before/during the Repeaer invasion, then the Ark ship itself is humanity avoiding putting there eggs in separate baskets.

The ark Ship, Commander Sheparrd and Liara's message to the future are all separate "eggs"
