I love you DA:I, but your music could learn from DA:O

I just now opened up the game DA:O. I remember now what in part made DA:O such a great game and that is that the game has nothing but the highest of high quality of music. While, yes DA:I has good music and that intro theme is really something else (I seriously got nerd chills when I got into the main game for DA:I the first time) Its just not as good as DA:O, I'm sorry. I must also say that I love DA:I and I find it to be one of the games that I will play again and again.

Perhaps one day I will open up DA:I and get the same feeling I get when opening DA:O after so long, but as of right now, I miss you DA:O.

Completely disagree with the OP. Inquisition has the best soundtrack of the series, and the music for the main battle against the darkspawn in Descent in particular is my all time favorite in any BioWare game.

I think the music in DAI is leaps and bounds ahead of DAO. For me, one of the shortcomings of DAO (and DA2) was the music. DAO had a good main theme and then the music washes out after that. It was completely forgettable and didn't help add anything or help me connect to what was going on in game. Whenever I replay DAO, I turn the music off and listen to my own. But that's just, like, my opinion, man.

I agree about the overall quality in DAI being better, though I think "forgettable" is a bit harsh.

I do...just...prefer the Origins theme over Inquisitions, though.

I had to laugh at one of the first environmental music pieces in DAO - it was mage origin and the music sounded like some generic Dracula movie theme :D

I loved the music in all 3, and DAI plays hints of DAO's music (first time seeing Skyhold and ending celebration plays the opening theme of DAO), but sadly what DAI lacks is continuous music. I loved how the DLC played amazing music during the fights, but except for the a few of the main quests, the music is barely there, but when it is, it's beautiful! I listened to the soundtrack and was shocked at how I hardly heard any of it in the game itself. It was always so quiet.

Honestly, none of DA games had good music - in my opinion. The only rememberable track I can think of is music that plays when you fight High Abyssal Dragon in the Western Approach. I don't find anything unique or specific in Dragon Age franchise music.

If Inquisition had a few Aubrey Ashburn tracks, would there be any reason to consider Origins' soundtrack better really? Because the Origins main theme and Leliana's song are the only two tracks I really like.

I liked the musics in all the DA games, but I must admit I liked much more DAO musics. The game had many beautiful and recognizable, characteristic tracks.

If I try really, really hard, sometimes I can remember the main menu theme.

For me that happen with DAI. I have to think to remember the main menu theme, that is a little generic. While DAO is basically part of my brain.

I completely agree with the OP. IMO not only was the music in DA:I too generic but it was poorly utilized. When I think of the music of DA:O I can hum or sing the songs but when I think of the music of DA:I I can't even remember it. When I try I start singing Edge of Night from Lord of the Rings because the menu screen sounds like that song. The only other one I recognize is the one that plays in Val Royeaux (but is apparently not supposed to?). I also hated the idea of instead of persistent ambient music there were 10-20 second blurbs every so often. Why even play anything if you're just going to do that? (I eventually ended up playing Skyrim's soundtrack in the background while adventuring because I hated the lack of music so much) Just one more thing that made me feel like I was the only beta tester in an MMO. The bard songs were a cool idea but sadly restricted to one location and not integrated into the story.

I can't stand the Dawn WIll Come, absolutely hate that song. Problem is it's the main theme for the game, it's everywhere. DA:O's was much better.

Once We Were has got to be my fav! It makes me think of DAO and the celebration after you kill the AD.

Music related question; who do we think the "Empress of Fire" mentioned in that song's lyrics is? The lyrics say she eclipses Orlais. I'm thinking either 1) Andraste, or 2) a high dragon.

I've got a massive weak spot for the startup theme in DAO and DAI. Other music in DAI is generally better than other music in DAO but not utilized nearly enough.

I think DAI music is on another level, not that we shouldn't remember DAO fondly but yeah. The Inquisition soundtrack is something else.
