So we were talking about shotguns before that other thread got locked.

I tend to prefer weapons that have more than 1 clip, like the Black Widow over the Widow or the Wraith over the Claymore.
This new controller I have is still a bit stiff and it doesn't help much with aiming, so weapons with bigger clips are more forgiving.

Indeed he reegar is more about a flamethrower than a shotgun but it's the shotgun categories.

I've used the Piranha a few times but it doesn't seem damaging enough. Maybe I'm doing something wrong.

The fact is that I avoid 1clip weapons. What I need is money to improve my manifest but right now I'm buying Reserve Packs for promotions.

Also note that my Reegar is IV so it takes longer to melt things and I also don't have many inci stuff. So it's not like my Reegar is that much OP, maybe just a little :)

In any case, I'll have to use different shotguns for the Shotgun challenge so that's where I might get a better feel of them.

Is there a detailed guide for Shotguns regarding kits and mods and stuff like that? Didn't find one of the resources thread.

Claymore.  Apply directly to the forehead!

I'm sure there are others here with much more knowledge so I'll just ask a basic question, do you have the mechanics of reload cancel/power cancel down pat?  That is one of your best friends with early manifest one-shot weapons like claymore/widow, even at low levels where clip size is an issue. Unless that's considered cheesing, in which case ignore that question.

Key things are:

1. Smart choke tightens the spread of the pellets and is VERY useful. Smart choke is a MUST have for most shotguns. Smart choke is pointless/useless on Crusader, Venom and Reegar. Smart choke helps GPS but since it homes in a bit, it's not all that useful. Graal has excellent accuracy and you can use ti without SC.

2. Venom, graal, GPS don't pierce cover, so shredder mod and HVB are pointless (HVB gives damage boost, but you're better off using HCB). Crusader has innate piercing and can hit through 0.5m without any mods/damage penalty.

3. Venom, GPS and graal can be charged for greater damage (and greater AoE in case of venom). And you can fire them while running or casting a power (very useful).

4. All kits make good use of shotguns. MM, DM and HM kits are good with shotguns that have a lot of spread (like raider, piranha) because they can improve the accuracy. Raider turns into a sniper in the hands of the MM kits. Vanguards make good use of shotguns too because of their CQC nature.

5. Graal has a 3x multiplier to headshots on non-bosses as opposed to the 2.5x multiplier for the rest. Venom and GPS can't score headshots.

6. Graal, venom and GPS stagger mooks. Venom absolutely wrecks Cerberus and Geth as all units except the big bosses get mercilessly staggered.

I think what you're referring to has been officially declared as 'clever use of game mechanics', which is not cheesy, in my book at least.  :D

I had typed a full reply but TheNightslasher has said it all.

There is a joy to be found in overcoming your fear of single shot weapons, OP, seriously. It's part of the learning curve that most of us have gone through.  My own greatest weakness used to be with the Raider, as I convinced myself it couldn't hit a barn door from 5 yards, when in fact it was just me not being brave enough to get as close as necessary.

I would have to have a look at your manifest to help you out shotgun wize......

For me..I like some of the "lesser" shotguns.. I really enjoy the eviscerator & disciple...

Graal is a weapon that takes getting used too...once you get the hang of it...it becomes a really hilarious weapon....Who doesnt enjoy seeing 15 spikes sticking out of a banshee's head or a geth prime?   ..(funny thing, the other night I landed a headshot on a husk..but the head didn't pop...seeing the spike sticking out of his head on the ground was one of the saddest things I have ever seen)  <---- I felt bad for wasting him......

Geth shotgun is a very forgivable weapon...the projectiles track the target..and kill mooks incredibly fast..I, myself ..go with incendiary ammo on it

Claymore..you already said that you don't like it because it's a one-shot weapon and it is at level 1  ...understandable...plus it's very heavy in it's lower levels...mine on the PS3 is at level 3  ...I comprehend your hesitation to embrace it right now...but as you level it up and unlock other characters and couple them 2gether...and master the art of re-load cancelling...they become massively destructive on the higher difficulties...I.E.  Claymore GI

Piranha....once you manage the spread (smart choke)...it is incredibly powerful...don't scope in on targets...this is a hip-fire weapon ...just blasting stuff in the face with this weapon is incredibly satisfying....and is a destroyer of bosses....

Crusader ...is my favorite weapon in the game....I would say if you havent tried it before...that this a weapon that has a true learning curve...due to how it fires...it is basically a sniper rifle....I love the feel of firing it....I have never pulled the trigger of a shotgun in real life but this weapon is how I would imagine it feels like

edit: damn, I just re-read to edit mistakes...sorry for my wall of text..aka my TPS report     <---- if you get this reference, we are now officially best friends.

Nice advices. Yes I'm aware of reload cancel. I'm still getting used to reload hide.

I have the impression that one clip weapon kill slowly as you have to reload every single time. Burt I'll start trying them out and see how it goes.

Again, best way to practice cancel reload on console is on a Jug. Because it's as easy as just pressing the X button. How I started.

That's a matter of preference, 'cause I like my weapons the other way around.

It should be in the "deleted" categories.

Also note that my Reegar is IV...

Avoid it like the plague. You'll never Gitgud and L2play  with that...thing. Better focus on getting experience and learning how this game works.

Once I'd got the hang of shotguns, I found the Eviscerator very enjoyable in Silver; and the last time I did the challenge for it, I played it in Gold.  Admittedly, on an AIU; but I found that to be a very pleasant combination.  A better player could make it work on other characters, I'm sure.

In my experience, if a shotgun doesn't make the damage you expect it to it's because you're not close enough to the target.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ This.  100% agree.

I do the same... I put the eviscerator or disciple on the AIU ....I really enjoy these combos.

I would give you a Like stephen...but I am out of them for today.

Guide to using shotgun:

1) Get real close

2) Apply to enemy face

Some shotguns don't require you to get close, but you should do so anyway.

Also an optional step three, unless you are a Batarian in which case it is mandatory:

3) Proceed to give enemy a beatdown with the shotgun.  If they protest, repeat steps 1 & 2.

I agree, it sucks that 3 out of 5 of those shotties are very lag sensitive, especially the Crusader and the Graal. Thr GPS is still enjoyable off-host

^ Thought I heard one dev say most shotguns suffer the Crusader delay issue. Just that it's more noticeable on Crusade since it's pinpoint accurate.

Point to note, in case nobody has mentioned it, if you're charging one of the above weapons and drop off a ledge or something like that, the weapon will go off whether you want it to or not.

Pain in the arse, those premature ejaculations

I think they all do that, quite certain the GPS does it.

No, not really, since the weapons that have 1-round clips typically do very high single shot damage (the Claymore, Javelin, Executioner, etc.) and can often score one hit kills (on mooks, or even sub-bosses like Ravagers, Phantoms, Brutes, etc. given the right setup). They only kill slowly if you have trouble hitting things.

My favourite Claymoar builds:

http://kalence.drupa...13W53364!EF0A.ONote the damage it does. A shot to the head will oneshot a Phantom and if not, snap freeze will finish her off. Pattern: TC -> shoot -> reload hide through snap freeze -> reload cancel -> shoot and repeat.

http://kalence.drupa...43G53364!5F9A5O

http://kalence.drupa...43G53364!5FEG5Swhether you take 6a or 6b on warp is your decision. I like the extra cheese, esp on plat.

http://kalence.drupa...13G53334!FEGA.5If you want more awareness, switch the assault loadout for geth scanner.

http://kalence.drupa...13O57364!8AAA.KI tend to switch the shotties around on that one. Sometimes I run with the raider, sometimes with the piranha and sometimes with the claymoar.

http://kalence.drupa...13W53314!480A5GFOR TUCHANKA!

http://kalence.drupa...13H51314!G8.AGONever been a fan of MF nades, so I specced out of it. Also, you really need drenmod on him. I´ve seen enough snails to see where it ends if you don´t.

You will see a lot of assault loadouts. That´s because I mostly play on plat these days and ammo is always a tad bit short. Having 3 more TCPs is a lifesaver, especially during objectives like hack or escort. That means on Gold or lower you can easily switch those out for other gear.

First of all, there is only one Shotgun in this game.

The others are shotguns at best.

Slasher's post is very good advice, although it's more a compliation of things to know about shotguns than advice on how to use it or build kits around them, so I guess I'll go ahead and give you a way to try out the power of the true High Lord for yourself, while also having room for mistakes and improvements, gitgud, l2aim and all that. Let me present you:

the two-shot Claymore

I know you most likely don't have all that equipment yet but don't worry, that build doesn't really need any boost at all. Just put what you've got on and you'll be golden. The only piece of gear which is truly mandatory is the smart choke, I guess. Tactic: close in as much as possible, apply the High Lord to the forehead, use AR, apply the High Lord again if needed, or against another target. Rinse and repeat. Gg.

Since I'm feeling chatty, I guess I'll go on and explain how to get the best out of a shotgun as well (though the best shotgun, so it's kinda close to the High Lord). Here. The tactic is a bit different here, as what you'll do is actually go around and fire at anything you can see, no matter how far it is. Provided you are using MM, you *will* hit the target with all your pellets, if you aim is true. Yes, you can definitely one-shot Phantoms across London with this, and it's one of the most satisfying things you can do in this game, for me.
