considering the fact that DA4 is a direct continuation of DAI (same timeline) unlike Mass Effect: Andromeda, we would be seeing some old characters in DA4.
And also the fact that the sequels of DA always feature 1/2 past companions and 1/2 past 'minor' characters, so who you do hope to see in DA4?
For past reference:
DA2:
Anders/Justice - companions in DAA
Merrill - minor character in DA1 (only if you played dalish origins)
DAI:
Varric - companion in DA2
Cassandra - 'minor' character in DA2
For myself:
DA4:
Scout Harding - breakout character in DAI, everyone loves her! ('minor' character in DA)
Cassandra - the only companion that you cannot not recruit and will never leave you, but there is the possibility that she can be Divine but i think BioWare can easily let her abdicate her throne. and she is fantastic!
Honourable mentions:
Cullen - was hoping he can finally be a full-fledged companion but in Trespasser, there is a possibility for him to go mad but i guess BioWare can 'retcon' and said it is only a rumor?
Maevaris - she seems to be getting tons of mention and even a character description in The World of Thedas Vol 2 (MarySue Fiona did not even get a pic in the group photo and a description of her own!!!) and since DA4 in likely to be in Tevinter, i guess she will be a companion
Cassandra is not going to abdicate as Divine, that goes against her character. She would fight for what she believes is right (Chantry reform) even if it causes her personal hardship (not being able to be with a LI Inquisitor). I think we might get a Divine cameo, regardless of which character it is, but otherwise won't have any contact with them.
Also, Cullen most likely wouldn't be in Tevinter. He has several branching outcomes, the most notable being
so I don't think we could see him without a lot of retconning or diverging paths.
Judging how masculine Maevaris' face looks I'd say Bioware hasn't learned anything from those horrible MtF characters in DA2.
I wouldn't even care who was in DA4, I just want Iron Bull and Cassandra back.
Isn't this the opposite of Serendipity? Serendipity was supposed to be a male elf crossdressing as a woman, AFAIK, but Maevaris is a transwoman, so her having a masculine face would make sense. Not that I found her face that masculine, from my recollection of the comics.
Yeah, Cole is Bat Boy, can't you see the resemblance?

That looks like my O Face
Past companions;
Dorian: His arc as of Trespasser has him heading there as a newly minted Magister. It'd be nice to see him handling the Magisterium and their politics, especially when they learn he's partnered up with Maevaris' faction.
Sigrun: The fandom has been wanting to see an Awakening Warden back for some time, so why not reintroduce one as a seasoned veteran. It'd also let us know precisely why the Ferelden chapter went to ground and were completely absent during Inquisition and the Descent... rather than not getting involved because they were either all dead, being incredibly lazy or were too busy making toast or something?
Nathaniel: Same reasons as above. Nathaniel or Sigrun could easily fill the slot of fan favourite, rogue companion from the Wardens.
Minor characters:
Calpernia: One of the more fascinating and sympathetic antagonists of Inquisition, Calpernia should be revealed to have survived the events of the game, regardless of the outcome when confronting her on the Templar path, or her unknown fate in the mage path. Her background as a former slave-turned-leader of the Venatori, coupled with her earnest-but-extremist desire to see Tevinter restored to greatness, would make her a fun companion (or even romance option) to have alongside.
Harding: She was one of the best secondary characters in Inquisition. As either an agent for the Inquisition or the Divine (should the Inquisition have disbanded), her having been sent to Tevinter to carry out an important mission would gel nicely with her inclusion in the final scene of Trespasser. Whatever her story and arc, one thing is clear... she needs a full romance arc this time that doesn't just fizzle like a damp squib!
Dorian and Maevaris are almost certain, but I imagine neither will be companions. I'm really hoping Calpernia is also present, even if in an antagonistic role.
I'm hoping for Harding as the bridge companion. While I like both Sigrun and Nathaniel, I'd have a hard time seeing how they fit into the Tevinter-Qunari conflict, unless there's a side plot about the Grey Warden civil war that they're involved in. At this point, though, I'm afraid that all of the Awakening companions are forgotten and won't be appearing again. Unless Bio is waiting to use them with the Architect story, whenever that's resolved. I just want resolution on whether they survived DAI or if they were nameless mooks slaughtered to raise demons.
