I feel like Dorian can be best for the team with his mortalitasi specialization. Would his build be better by including all of the spirit tree?

Not necessarily.  It depends on his intended role.  If you want him for DPS, then no, you can take none of the Spirit Tree or just Barrier.  I usually pick either Walking Bomb or Spirit Mark/Wisps of the Fallen in the Necro tree and all of the passives (no Haste).  Not really enough mana for both, especially if the AI is predominantly controlling the character and you're utilizing other active skills as described below.

Other trees to consider are Fire for the great passives FlashPoint/Clean Burn and damaging skills like Fire Mine and Fire Wall.  In the Winter tree, Fade Step is a get out of jail free card with mana generating properties with the right upgrade.  Winter Stillness will help with the mana regen, as will the Superb Amulet of Renewal, pulled from the corpse of Ishmael at the top of Suledin Keep.  In the Electricity Tree, Energy Barrage is always good for DPS and very good in conjunction with Simulacrum and the 1% Heal on Hit FT Masterwork.

Of course you can still go support by going down the Spirit Tree, as Dispel is great to have no matter what, but I prefer DPS with Dorian.  Just a few ideas.

Party Banter is subjective, and I have no opinion either way.

My intended role for him would be support so maybe a few from the spirit and winter for mana will be good right?

In my opinion, yes. Winter Stillness, Clean Burn passives, Spirit Tree (left side). Ice Mine/Ice Array with Ice Armor are a solid combo for defense and some CC for a support Mage.

What I love about Dorian is when I give him the ability to revive a companion, and his focus ability, he'll use them in tandem.  So when someone dies (i.e. the @#$@ hits the fan), time slows down for everyone and the person who died is rez'd.  It gives me time to recover from a wipe.

Incredible that could come in handy.

Pretty ironic that the closest thing to a healer role is a Necromancer.

I second that but you take what you can get I guess.

I like to think he brings people back zombified.  It's more entertaining.

Dorian,at least he's an eye candy and funny. Solas is so wise and...boring.  No offense, but he also always looks like he's having a hangover.

Dorian has more delightful banter, but I found Solas's specialty class powerful and super helpful. So I kept him around.

OH I'll have to try this, thanks! Dorian is my go-to mage, but I'm not very good, or creative, with point allocation in general. It doesn't really matter in my case since I play on casual, but every once in a while I will read something like this and switch something up.

Well, he does go out on all-night benders with spirits in the Fade.

AOE firestorm is the best focus ability ever.

I wish haste were effective because it's so dam badass and flashy but I feel like it doesn't really produce noticeable results, or last long enough to, since it takes a while to cast.

I would have to go with Tier 3 Thousand Cuts for the best, even without the exploit. I don't really use focus anymore though, except prior to having 8 active skills available with my Inquisitor.

I'd go with Dorian. He has fun party banter with Sera and Bull.

Don't forget Sera and Solas they have really good party banter as well him being pro elf and she anti elf

I personally never take Solas anywhere because I really dislike him and his shiny bald head.  I also love Dorian to pieces.  So Dorian.

Oh, also if you are not romancing Bull or Dorian you can get Bull and Dorian to hook up.  And with Sera in the party that banter is hilarious.

i'm trying that lately to get them to hook up but if they talk to each other it is not very nice what they say is it after a main quest or something because i really would like to hear that

Depends on who you want. I like to weave lore with gameplay and lorewise, Solas is more of a support / utility mage whereas Dorian is more of an offensive / flashy mage. Various party banter and dialogue confirm this.

Yes I know Dorian can be built for support but it does not suit his personality and support mages typically need high mana regeneration to use their many of their spell and Dorian simply does not have high high mana regeneration built into his skillset. Solas does with his Rift Mage specialization.

So if you need support mage, go Solas. His specialization can provide amazing support and crowd control. If you want an offensive mage, go with Dorian.
