So either the writing for Andromeda is done, or the game is in trouble. I guess we'll have until April or so to learn for ourselves.

MEA is already in trouble. The trouble started the second somebody decided it being an offline MMO was actually a good idea.

Maybe they bounced Schlerf because Karpyshyn is back at BioWare.

Writer who put out a sketchy Halo sequel V.S. Writer who made Mass Effect a hit to begin with.

Which do you think would produce a better result?

Out of curiosity as a European...is life in the US expensive? More than in Canada? How much money do you need monthly to have an half-decent life in US?

Depends on where in the US.

I'm in Long Island, NY and the cost of living here is idiotically high. My wife, son and I live with my parents because even though we both work full time jobs we can't afford our own place let alone pay the high property tax.

Got worse over the last eight years.

Well since it's official now I would welcome as a concerned customer a good old BW PR telling us that Schlerf work for the company is complete and the major elements of the plot are all in place and we should not worry about it. That would reassure us.

*We* don't need to be reassured because most of us are adults who don't fret over things like minor staff turnover at a video game company (and yes, in the grand scheme of things, the amount of staff turnover we see at Bioware really is minor, so stop being so melodramatic).

*You* think you need to be reassured, but I have no idea why.

This is becoming the norm in parts of Europe too.  Mostly cities.

Maybe  Mass effect Andromeda is an Stand alone, introducing a new Serie,  and the work of Schafer is over ?

That sucks but I can totally relate I'm not married but live and work in London. I still share an apartment with two other people because even with a decent enough wage I can't afford an apartment on my own. My gf is currently unemployed and live in the countryside with her parents. The cost of housing is insane for what I've seen. It appears then to be a fairly common problem everywhere.

I don't understand this hostility. If you are in a gaming forum then ofc people talk and worry about their favorite hobby. Good on you for being so wise and adult and not fretting over minor things. You want a cookie? An award? A pat on the shoulder?

Now that your self-esteem is satisfied I guess we can return talking about our favorite frachise.

You know what this means, Mac will be forced to write the rest of the game at this rate and will ruin the whole plot because of it. Another game I'll skip this means, 'cuz no way am I trusting him again, of all people.

As I suspected. And this is great news, if in fact, he's been gone since he cleared his Twitter of anything Bioware. That gives the remaining writers a chance to completely erase any crap he injected into the narrative.

I never played Halo, because, sadly for me, I'm one of those person who are awfully sick when they play first person games.... -_-

So you just scared me with your comment,  was it that bad??

No hostility, just pointing out that those worrying about things as minor as this are just causing undue stress to themselves and others for no real reason.

But hey, apparently this is about my self-esteem... somehow, so I guess you've got that hostility thing covered.

I've loved Halo for the past 15 years. And in my opinion, yes, Halo 4's narrative was "that bad". When the only notable part of your story is a romantic subplot between a genetically altered super soldier and his AI, and the rest is a jumbled mess completely lacking context, your story blows.

I'm less worried for ME:A now that I know he's been gone for quite some time (presumably). The game is still atleast a year out.

Oh dear ....

Well, I think the story was the first thing they worked on with the characters and design for the new worlds so I think it's all written and locked since a very long time. They won't change anything about the story now  :/ let's cross our fingers !

Halo had been falling out of favor for me for a while (I still say Halo 2 was the best game of the entire franchise), but I would agree with the bolded part.

All the other games you could jump right into and understand what was going on. With Halo 4 you didn't know what the heck was happening unless you had read the novels/comic books, watched the two hour internet film, and then read all the hidden terminals scattered through out all the previous games. Halo 4 relied too much on exterior lore and the assumption that the player would have a complete library of knowledge concerning all of the setting's lore.

Was hoping I didn't have to explain that "lacking context" line for the millionth time. And I don't, since you pretty much posted my sentiments to a T.  Expecting your audience to have read a trilogy of novels etc. in order to understand your story, was their biggest failing with Halo 4.

It also bugged me in ME3 that we didn't get a proper introduction who Vega was & how he and Shepard met. Imo, it's a bad thing if we're supposed to know what happened in the novels.

Schlerf was gone pretty much as soon as he was hired (if his Twitter is anything to go by, that was like 7-8 months ago)

I don't think he had enough time to influence the plot in any significant way. Even if he did, they've had plenty of time to alter it in any way they feel.

I don't think his leaving signifies anything bad at all.  We're between nine months and a year away from release (which I feel pretty confident of, since EA said the game will be released by March 2017 at a shareholders meeting).  If the vast majority of the writing wasn't done by now, I would be very concerned. After the writing is finished a company still has to do all the voice acting, animations, polishing, making sure everything actually works, etc. etc.   Writing should in theory be one of the first steps in the process that concludes. So this particular exit doesn't seem like a big deal to me.

Granted. But you kinda got a feel for who Vega was and what he was all about throughout the course of the game. Bioware added context, gave backstory. Halo 4 had fans that had played through the first 3 multiple times, not knowing what the hell was going on the entire campaign.

Yeah, I hate the (seemly) pretentious attitude behind such choices.

Rather than trying to fill the players in on what is happening and why they should care in the current platform, the creators point to exterior sources to cover the basics of what should have been fleshed out in the primary medium. And if a person finds that to be a rather cheap copout, well then they're just not smart enough, or dedicated enough of a fan.

Why are all the writers leaving?  Why can't it be the people who programmed the hair in DA:I who jump ship?

When they announced him on N7 Day 2014, he mentioned that he had worked on ME for over a year. He has probably worked at Bioware since mid 2013.

Urgh. So, as I thought, he worked on the game for a long time... anyways, the dice are cast !
