I am at the part of the game where I encounter the Red Dragon Kaluth, and I intend to kill him. It's going to be rough, but I read somewhere that a dragon sphere can weaken him a bit. Where do I get a dragon sphere?

If you explore further down that area, you will encounter a Dragon Dungeon map with a blue dragon in it. He isn't initially hostile, but either dialog options or just attacking him will turn him hostile and you can kill him. Once he is dead, put the Dragon Sphere from the fountain into the pedastal to get a Dead Dragon Sphere. When you go back to Klauth, you can offer him the Dead Dragon Sphere and it will weaken him significantly. He is much easier to take down that way. But, be warned that the Dead Dragon Sphere isn't a straightforward win button; he can still be a tough customer.

First, thanks for the heads up! I mapped out most of this dungeon -  which fountain are you referring to?

The fountain is in the same Dragon Dungeon area in which you find the blue dragon.

Or you can take a really cheap, unsatisfying route and hit him with cold damage bolts or arrows from a safe distance. You won't be able to look at yourself in the mirror afterwards.
