Linked as part of a discussion in-game. But really, worth watching whether you were a part of that or not.

starting my 5th ranger it occurred to me ( at long last) why I enjoy them. without pet searching there are certain areas of the game you just ignore. This came to me while I considered getting an eagle pet and while thinking about hot and realising the only reason I was in dragon stand was to cap the pets. It adds longevity and a casual achievement to the game, unlike any other profession. Achievements are totally not my thing since I cannot for the life in me get excited about gaining +3 to an arbitrary number that inherently holds no worth. A new set of pixels is about as far as I will go.
Pets give a structure to visiting the whole map, Nothing major but a sliver of an additional award "gotta catch 'em all".
It could be expanded into necro going to a specific place to raise said minion for the first time. ( which in turn can be expanded to the area you "create your minion defines its look. Arah minions being more horrific than metrica. )
I suppose guards could benefit from the same idea but their summons are, sadly, crap so why bother?
anything with summons can benefit from the concept. Who wouldn't take their ele to arah for a monstrous earth ele of titanic proportions? and could be said of their summon weapons.
warriors would just have to sit on their thumb.

The only real reason I'm chasing the APs is so that I can collect the Radiant and Hellfire skins, actually. XD One of my side goals is to have my Guardian be completely decked out in Radiant armor + backpack one day, with the Illuminated title.
But yeah, I understand the "catch em all" appeal too. I've always been a collector. Way back during the Baldur's Gate days I played a Wizard and I would always do my darndest to learn every single spell in my spellbook.

I can,t wait to immerse myself in expanding the lnands of the udead or the dwarves. It has been far too long since I was involved in the dark lore of warhammer.

I have themes for some characters, but not for all. However, I have a clear idea of what they all would "like", or what suits them, and from that I won't deviate. Still, I don't really roleplay GW2 at all beyond that.
I see what you mean about the rangers, but unfortunately it doesn't work for me :/ I got all pets for my ranger before the expansion came along, but I only just recently got her to the first HoT map, and so far the only thing she's done there is farm flax... Oh, well. One day.

stupidly I wandered into edge of the mists and attempted to play what it was designed as.
This was stupid given the absolute failure of anet to implement their design.
So I get mugged by a guardian in a zerg. I pop fear me, predictably he ignores it. so a hammer knock back and a stomp follows. nothing occurs. He broken lol spins through me to win. now imagine I am a new player unused to how truly terrible anet are at game design At this point would be glad glad my account is free and proceed to go back to x-com 2.
Anet's zero skill counters to everything ensured this did nothing and left me wondering who design's Anet's combat and more importantly who tests it and gives a thumbs up for "fun" when a simple button press out weighs three. A button that can be pressed ahead of time. It isn't even a counter just a safety net, this explains why interrupts were killed off, because god know reactions are not part of a gamer's skill set.

In short I miss real mesmers and pbs rangers. As an aside wvw style crap is deeply unsatisfying. as each fight is a crap shoot.

While I don't exactly need the theme to stay interested, each of my characters does have an RP personality and an appearance "theme" that I adhere to. My Sylvari Necro, for example, using plant/natural gear for everything.

So the BIG news of today is that Colin Johansson is leaving Arenanet. ANet hosted an AMA on Reddit (good PR move on their part, I must admit), a summary of which can be found here on dulfy's site:
http://dulfy.net/201...er-ama-summary/
I'm mostly concerned about one thing. Colin was the one that promised us that Ascended gear would be the last tier of equipment. Now that he's leaving, I worry that Mike O'Brien might feel he has leeway to go back on that promise if that's "what players want" in the future.
I also think that their decision to stick with Legendary armor only being available via Raids is a silly one. There was a big old discussion about WvW and about how it's hemorrhaging players. Seems to me that one easy way they could incentivize tons more players to show up in WvW, and that's to give players another set of Legendary armor they can work towards via WvW, similar to how you can get a Legendary backpiece from Fractals AND PvP. Obviously it wouldn't have the same skin as the Raid armor, but for people who are "too casual" to find raid groups or just dislike raids for whatever reason now have an alternate path they can work on. And I KNOW this method would work to stir up huge interest in WvW, because I remember the HORDES of PvE players that flooded into WvW when the last WvW season was on, only to disappear again once the season was over and the AP/shinies were no longer to be found.

I'd certainly not wvw for shinies. How about a good game mode first?I'g jq before I'd wvw and that was so bot infested it was terrible.

Kieth's "dance" should have been the human dance or at least a necro dance.

... "Ascended sausages"? But yeah, I do agree that obtaining non-core stats on trinkets is abnormally difficult, particularly when it comes to the new HoT stats (currently it's "Raid, or nothing"). In addition, you currently can't obtain extra copies of the new HoT stat amulets you get via the Story or collections. They have said they'll be looking at increasing avenues of obtaining these in future Living Stories, but that means we're still 3+ months away.
EDIT: This would be a great time to introduce R500 Jeweler, ANet. Hint hint.

I've downloaded the beta but have yet to try it, the OMD games have been excellent so far, however.
I guess the closest explanation would be a action tower defence with traps acting as the towers.

Okay, the teaser about ranger's sword auto-attack being finally fixed (i.e. not attaching you to the enemy so that timely dodging is super difficult) has me excited about Tuesday's update. Maybe finally I'll want to play my ranger again!
