I have to say that the spring update addressed a lot of the issues I've had with HoT and the state of the game in general in a way that at least right now seems very satisfying. Have to put it all to the test, of course, but still.

Likewise. It seems that they addressed a lot of complaints and flaws with HoT that kept most of the casual players locked out or unable to make much real headway. There's still a few outstanding issues (like the inability to salvage/forge the Specialization armors or the inability to purchase more copies of the HoT amulets and/or salvage them), but on the whole I'm quite pleased by the changes.

I've downloaded the beta but have yet to try it, the OMD games have been excellent so far, however.

I guess the closest explanation would be a action tower defence with traps acting as the towers.

Not sure if we had different heroes in the first OMD game, but killing orcs is still entertaining.

Not quite the same as when every pair you see costs half a million.

Well, ectos ARE much easier to get now compared to when it was an Underworld run for every one. ;)

Aye, I agree them being a gemstore item trivialises them, but on the other hand the way the game economy works, I wouldn't want them to be so expensive that only TP players can afford them. Maybe a collection to unlock them the same way as first-tier precursors would have been nice, but obviously that would have been way more work for Anet.

That said, the general consensus seems to be that currently it's easier to make gold in-game than it has ever been before, so things are more affordable as a consequence.

wardrobe damages the effect, while I wouldn't be without it in the gw2 set up, fashion wars is sadly dead leaving the developers with no incentive to include new armour sets. Hell, they can't even be arsed to add an alternative armour set  they already have. they even have the shaman stat set in the game already.

the ill-fated flaming tier 3 should be kicking around somewhere as well.

Unless they are saving those for legendary armour.

It is about time they released that fow gw2 map and give us back our obby armour. also added heroes.

they won't because they know each profession needs some obby of its own.

Don't know how many here do Fractals frequently, but here are some excellent guides to Master level Fractals: https://www.reddit.c...or_master_tier/

Eurovision is too political this year. Several of the favourites have no business being in the competition at all and certainly don't deserve to win, and it's disappointing that they are obstacles for the few really good entries.

I heard that Australia made it to the finals. From the few clips I've seen, Dami has a pretty awesome singing voice. Whether or not she deserves to win though, I haven't a clue.

I wonder how many players gw2 hemmorages every day due to locking content away behind numbers, and the false social structure they have (hopefully) unwittingly created. I see so many posts of people bored because they feel alone in the gw world, meanwhile the designers constantly push more group content. Contrast that with warframe where much of the game can be done solo but it also rewards grouping through experience gain, rewards and speed.GW has no structure in place to support the social aspect they are seemingly pushing. Age, ability, experience, availability all play a part. i can't help but feel the devs are in a bubble where they are a mass pulled together by working at anet, so they never encounter how lonely their game truly is.
On a similar note, is there a space now for new guilds, I get the feeling they system has advanced too far now for it to be pointless to try to start, there is no point to joining a new guild. I also note most successful guilds are run by relatively attractive younger females, and I have to wonder if the successful ones are bolstered by the tendency of younger males to be willing to donate towards the aim of a female. (The oft joked power of bewbs and mmo players)

there is no point to joining a new guild.

This seemed to be the case already before the addition of guild halls and those have certainly exacerbated the problem. Maybe you can find something on the guild recruitment subreddit.

They improved this situation a lot with the Spring Update. Aside from world bosses and map-wide metas, the solo player should be able to do just about everything in the open world maps without help once you've got decent gear and some experience under your belt. But yeah, I largely agree with you. I think a big factor in what made GW2 so popular at launch was the fact that you could just run out into the world, do just about anything, and if big events showed up, someone would announce it in chat and everybody would come running. Once it was done, everybody just goes back to what they were doing. You could hop in, help out, and feel like you contributed without any sense of pressure or responsibility.

Stuff like dungeons, fractals and raids are catering to a completely different audience, the more traditional kind, and I think prior to the Spring Update it was really creating such a gulf between the two groups of players that the casual crowd, the one that made GW2 such a success, was on the verge of leaving for good. I think they've still got some work to do with making raids more accessible; dungeons and Fractals are in a fairly good spot right now (the former largely because difficulty is so much easier with Ascended gear and HoT-builds).

Unfortunately guilds are still in a position where you really need a minimum critical number of players in order to be self-sustaining. (Either that, or you have some really generous whales in the guild.) The risk of burnout is too high otherwise. I think the main trouble comes with the fact that a lot of the end-game rewards require a lot of gold/mats (it cost me about 500g all up to max out Scribe, for instance), which forces players to choose between either supporting their guild, or supporting their own goals. And most players, when it comes down to it, will choose the latter, which only exacerbates the feeling among the former that "I'm doing all the work in supporting this guild!"

Starting a new guild with a specific goal, e.g. raids, should still work, but it will probably die as soon as it has served its purpose. A general purpose guild would require a substantial number of people, preferably an existing group moving to GW2 from somewhere else.

---

While I understand why people complained about the map meta events and why Anet detached them from the final boss battles, I think this move renders the pre-events completely useless. I was hanging around on an AB map the other day and after completing all pre-events people just left and the map was “closed” just when Tarir started. Basically, the whole dynamic of the maps has been replaced by a random set of meaningless events.

I'm not sure there are any niches left for a guild to fill effectively making it stillbirth upon inception.

As to hot, I feel the third map is a terribly designed zerg map that punishes solo players for daring to look at the map because of the common pop ups.

In all likely hood this is another of their childish attempts to marry wvw with open world content. regardless of how inept they are at wvw. I can't decide if they are utterly inept at implementing it, or utterly determined to not do anything other such game systems have attempted ( a standard they have been unable to uphold in more successful arenas).

It is about time people realised the phrase mmo is hideously outdated as gaming, is, was, and always will be a solitary exercise unless you have an unusual bond with your allies. Strangers do not cut it.

So , I learned yesterday eso has solo dungeons, five man and 10 man raid style on the maps. A shame anet is so far up its own arse we will never see that.

As in, the content adjusts itself to accommodate different numbers of players? Or there's solo, 5 man and 10 man dungeon content?
