The vertical slice he played was small and he is soooo not as obsessive as we are (tho he is a fan) but he let me know a couple of things.
1: there us a Krogan character in the squad so far called Drake.
2: There is a Synthetic in the squad...it is not a geth
3: A big thing that was a focus of this was showcasing the "no loading times". Apparently there are none. From flying through the "map" to picking a planet to landing with the squad. Problem my friend was made aware that thanks to this approach graphical features were loading after game play begun. He did not care much....but the person making him aware was not happy.
4: Squad AI was better than he remembered from ME3. He pointed out the companions were aggressive and actively using shields when the team was taking damage and whatnit but he made it sound like they were more like the Geth deployable shields from the early ME1. Might have been me interpreting wrong tho. Game play was described as "familiar" and "refined" from ME3.
Sorry, not much in the way of concrete info but eh, thought I'd share

To believe or not to believe
Seems pretty reasonable. There's a lot of testing and product review to go around in the final months. Not to mention focus testing about how to address certain deficiencies.
Keep in mind that EA is super corporate, so they're not going to trust developers to make too many executive decisions based on vision. Many of the game features are going to be established through market testing and mandated from on high. Corporations love focus testing. Just the reality of an industry that has "made it" into the mainstream.

Not too surprising. DAI does this all the time on my rig. I guess it's a Frostbite thing?

Sounds like texture pop-in, which happens with a lot of engines (especially Unreal, you can see this happen in the ME series a lot) and is exactly something that'd be a problem with an attempt at seamless transitions without loading screens.

And that's the story of how "Hotline Bling" came to Andromeda

transliteration is an awful thing. Sorry I think that''s what he meant.I'm also assuming the OP is referring to the krogan squad member Drack. Though if we get a Krogan named Drake who claims to be from Canada that's even better.

I just had a vision of some "social media manager" at EA saying "you know what all the kids and memesters are into these days? Drake. Kids love the Hotline Bling. You should definitely think about changing the name. It'll have a positive impact on our female 18-29 demographic."
It was a horrifying thought.

I'm actually talking about decorative objects popping in, not just textures. For instance, when my Quizzy fast travels to the throne room, the throne, tables, benches, and statues take several seconds to show up. Not sure if thisis what crimsontearz' friend is talking about.

"No loading screens"? Reminds me of that BioWare Q&A from a while back where some guy asked for this and the BioWare dude said it wouldn't be possible.

Oh, I see. I guess consoles don't load fast enough for that to happen. I do get texture pop-in for DAI on consoles still, though.

Really? So you have EVIDENCE to support your premiss that EA micromanages their developers, Bioware specifically? With all the people that have left bioware over the past 10 years I can remember zero tweets of EA is ruining Bioware by mircromanaging or EA micromanages us so I had to leave that environment, by these people who left bioware.
Perhaps I missed the tweets as I don't religiously follow developers. Can you show me ANY evidence for your position?
and no it ISN'T logical to assume EA is doing so, because it isn't logical to support a premiss with no evidence when it is possible to obtain evidence in support or against a given premiss.

This could be a sly marketing test to judge reactions.
About the synthetic:
That's one potential LI out the window. Could be that IDI replicated itself and is part of the ARK crew. Be as it may, I personally don't like the idea of an intelligent synthetic in Andromeda.... new story, new chars remember?
About AI Combat:
Better AI combat control for our mates is goodness.
