Hm, I am looking forward to this, in a away...

Maybe this time around - instead of the almighty (yet as we know also incredibly stupid and pointless) Reapers we have some "normal" powerful race controlling most parts of Andromeda? A bit like the Prothean-equivalent of this Galaxy, the overlords of many races and planetary-systems, controling them NOT to become spacefaring, but quite openly meddling in these people's affairs...and not in the best of ways ...

And then mankind and co. come around, and these powerful people will get mightly annoyed - and the conflict is set.

I also get kind of a "Deep Space Nine - Dominion"-Vibe thinking about this. In that series the Dominion was not met until later the Federation poked its nose into the Gamma Quadrant, only rumours and whipsers were heard at first, and I think it could be similar. First we just run around on planets etc, find stuff, make friends by fighting mostly "primitives" and beasts and whatnot ... but then more and more of this "real" threat of the new Galaxy unravels...

I'm getting more of a stargate atlantis vibe. Bunch of advanced aliens arrive, meet primitive natives who the wraith(remnants) have been dominating.

oh, my. Pre space faring people; synergetic mods; ancient artifacts. I like.

So, it sounds like we can kind of drive the "ship", although we can stop it midway to "go around the ship"? To walk around the ship and chat people up, I assume.

The synthetic being a "He" might simply be a default choice of terms to describe something that may not be either male, or female. Or it could be guy-ish...in a synth way.

If we take on an Enkindler type role, I really hope they give us solid choices about how to approach and deal with such a view. I hope we have the opportunity to be honest with these species, and not be forced to cultivate the lie that we're "gods", or some such.

Oh, and someone was making a tally? Lessee: Est 7 squaddies-1 krogran; 1 synth; 1 human female Cora-I'm assuming because isn't she the Blonde woman?

We have est 4 remaining. 1 human male, ofc. and that leaves 3...I wonder who?

I'm hoping there are multiple actions/paths to take with natives.

If there's only 7 i'd guess an Asari,  a Turian(female) & Quarian(Male)

I'd bet on at least 1 squad member who's from an Andromedan race.

Hm, not that familiar with SGA .. but the Wraiths were kind of "primitive/savages" or not? A bit like the Firefly-Reapers?

I picture the "main baddies" as more advanced and in the shadows at first, but with shock-troops acting as their executioners and all this (like Jem-Hadar). Mostly because it would leave the "masters" a mere mystery at first, maybe without us even meeting them in person for teh entire game, only hearing about them, so more can be added later (again, like Mass Effect-Reapers, only hopefully better)

I'm hoping that's not the case personally, though you may be right.

You mean like a laser sight and a damage mod doing double the crit and/or doing higher damage (than simply the damage mod would do) because the aiming mod was on there?

no more like X works better with Y rather than Z even tho Y and Z have similar effects

Wraith were meant to be advanced vampires but on the whole i'd prefer something to DS9 with foot soldiers only evident at first. Though now i've got idea in my head that our new synthetic friend is going to turn out to be part of synthetic masters pulling the strings a la odo.

Tactical war battles where we recruit primitives as cannon fodder

Also something about a bunch of these new peoples you meet being pre-space faring...

Hm, I like that idea, though now instead of Star Trek vibes I get some DAI-Solas-Vibe ^^ But yeah, would be cool if this companion in the end is revealed to be some kind of monitor to this new threat/master race - and ends up being the main villain in a sequel

Now THAT would be a great way to establish a villain! Make him fight alongside us, bleed with us, have us trust him and then ! BAM Next game you really have it personal!

The Wraith were less advanced than the Ancients, but more so than modern humans.  They were able to kick the Atlanteans out of the Pegasus galaxy thanks to having vastly greater numbers though.

Of course, when all they had left to feed on where the humans left behind in the escape, and lacking the technology to follow the Atlanteans out of the galaxy,  the Wraith didn't have enough food to sustain themselves, so they spent much of the time in hibernation, letting humans build up their numbers a bit before culling them again.

I really hope the story doesn't take a 'Dances with Wolves' plot with the pre-space indigenous, at least not as the main narrative.

It could be worse. It could be a "our agressive colonization of these uncharted territories is totally cool because, you know, they are primitives and need civilization, or those who aren't primitives are evil and deserve that we take everything from them".

I mean, after learning what the other Council races (those in the Council and those in Council space) had to endure to reach that point, I could certainly sympathize with the aliens complaining that humans were a bunch of greedy newcomers that hadn't done anything of real value to deserve what they were asking for. But the narrative almost never questioned the humans' viewpoint.

Hey, if there's one thing ME3 has taught us is that the occasional genocide "for the greater good" is totally cool... <_<

I hope the Krogan squaddie is a Shaman.

Anyone who denies the greatness of the Shaman of Clan Urdnot is a filthy pyjak.

*rolleyes*

Mass Effect isn't exactly the hardest of hard sci-fi - if I want detailed physics and mathematical calculations, I'll go read some Neal Stephenson or <insert name of any sci-fi author who likes throwing a lot of numbers around whose novels I've read - the list is long>, so big freaking deal if the Mako drops from the sky/high altitude/sub-orbital space/whatever.

They did it in ME1, so why are you suddenly accusing BioWare of being lazy in how the Mako is dropped and lands? Because it's a popular thing to do because you don't like the recent direction of their games? Let me point out three things here that I feel render your complaint itself lazy (because you didn't do due diligence as far as I'm concerned):

  1. The Mako has jumpjets.
  2. Modern VTOL aircraft such as the Osprey or the Harrier are perfectly capable of VERTICALLY TAKING OFF AND LANDING using their jets.
  3. The Mako is not intended to zip through the sky like an Osprey or a Harrier, but presumably its futuristic jumpjets are actually powerful enough to bring it to a safe landing (even if you don't take into account its shields, which may or may not provide some kind of kinetic dampening or other benefits).

Not to mention the fact that NASA delivered an SUV-sized rover with a nuclear power supply on its back using a floating sky-crane and balloons.

I hope not.

The Asari have already been largely represented throughout the series.  Blue crew members will do.  Leave the precious squaddie space to another race.

I heard Bioware polled fans and most didn't care if Quarians are returning in ME: A.  The one Quarian subject that deserves to be expanded upon is their research of dying stars.  This could affect the entire galaxy.

Turian female has a novelty factor.  A biotic cabal squaddie would be like our very first paladin class char in ME.

Drack KroBro

Cora the Blonde Bimbo

Turian Cabal

Virtual Alien Synthetic

Drell

Squaddie from an Andromeda native race

Another Squaddie from an Andromeda native race

If the rumors about primitives are true, I imagine BW will make at least one of our squaddies originate from them.

Going into Andromeda refreshes the franchise.  I'd be disappointed if we don't have two Andromedans as squaddies.

so have Krogan, Drell, Humans, Salarians, Quarian and Turian...but God forbid the devs don'the give them a precious Squaddie spot right? And why because of how Asari are represented, because they are a trope? Blue (rather than green) spacebabes for the male audience?...guess what? 90% of the alien races are a trope and ZOMG Drell (thane especially) were MADE to appeal to women directly.

I actually LIKE Asari and would gladly sacrifice any other race for an Asari Squaddie tyvm

OP

I have no reason to doubt you. At the same time, I have no reason to believe you. Either way, we'll know soon enough. Nothing of what you said seems unreasonable, except for the load screens. Frostbite 3 always seems to be heavy on load screens, so I'm skeptical as to whether MEA has rectified that or not.

I don't really care about Squad AI as it has always been worthless and I'm sure I'll have to solo everything on Insanity like I did in ME1-3.
