There aren't really DA4 spoilers in this comic are there? I'm tired of BW expecting us to read a bunch of EU instead of fleshing out the actual game
... Were there any spoilers for DAI or the earlier games in auxiliary materials?

I already answered on the first page, in this post.
This run of comics will have three arcs (I'm pretty sure), like the first run of comics, consisting of pre- peri- and post-Inquisition. This first arc covers the events of pre- (issues 1, 2) and peri- (issues 3-5), with the next two arcs going to post-Inquisition. The next two arcs are what you might want to read. BUT at this time we don't know how long the duration is. There is a gap of two years before Trespasser, so the events could take place during that time. It might serve as a connection to DA4, or might not. We just can't know at this time.

I hope it's not connected
It's already known that this is an ongoing series. So obviously, the comics will be connected with the game.
I truly hope that they wont be our companions. I see how magekillers could be needed to take down Solas, but... GOD FORBID, NOOOO! They are too bland and unintresting comparing to Varric, Merril, Solas, Sera, Alistair, etc... Nopenopenopenopenopenope
If Marius (and I'm almost 100% certain it would be Marius) were to show up I suspect his involvement would be part Magekiller, part legally freed slave and all of the baggage that brings with it. He would likely be a voice to balance out Dorian's overall (though not exactly) Pro Tevinter outlook..
If I'm remembering what the devs have said in the past that these characters fit themes they want to explore and while Marius might get cut for the simple fact that he was largely written by a third party writer (obviously outside of his short story appearance and just the general BioWare overview) he certainly fills that role should the writers decide to explore it.
Tessa might show up, and in the next two stories I might be more or less inclined to up her chances over even Marius, but at the moment her role doesn't seem to point to any major possible story avenues.
Also to mimic what others have said it's hard to assess whether they would be great or not with just this appearance. For example, Cole was unarguably one of the most divisive characters pre-Inquisition and post inquisition he remains to be so, but with the caveat that people changed their minds when they saw him. Marius or Tessa (because I really doubt both will be companions) could change our minds.
I find it more likely that neither will be a companion, more likely they'll appear as part of a side quest.
I wouldn't rule that out either. I would expect at least one to be a companion and the other an advisor, but I can't rule out that they'll just be side quest or even war table NPCs. I mean if we go by past experience we have Cole, but then we also have months of speculation that figured Rhys and Evangeline would be companions. In my mind though Marius fills a somewhat unique role thematically as ex-Slave turned Mage killing bounty hunting specialist. Then again I would need to get a sense for the new PC. I suspect it will be an agent of the Inquisition which is why I expect Marius is a possibility.
I'm not even reading it, just the thread reactions so I can keep up.

It's not going to have any "spoilers", but it might provide a bit more depth to some situations. So far it just seems to be cleaning up the purely Inquisition plotlines, specifically the Venatori and Red Templars.
Personally, I hope they don't end up as companions. I don't care if we run into them, but I've had enough mercenary types in my RPGs. I know DA is "medieval", but even in Mass Effect, mercenaries were treated as basically morally ok, despite pretty much being assassins. Never understood that.

I would expect Calpernia as a companion before either of them honestly, though that might just be my preference.
Of course I expect most of our companions will be entirely new characters, so I expect only one or two returning characters. And I still think Harding is a highly likely candidate for one of those positions considering the way Bioware likes to elevate popular side characters.

Iron Bull was a mercenary - only not really; he was a Qunari spy who was only sorta-kinda a mercenary.
Same with Marcus and Tessa - one is a former slave trained rigorously to eliminate mages and another is a self-exiled member of Nevarran nobility with a business sense. We don't yet know HOW they became mercenaries (we'll probably delve into that either somewhere farther in the comic, or... in the game perhaps?), but we do know that at the end of issue 3 they basically became members of the Inquisition, so they're mercenaries no more, and we don't yet know what they'll become at the end of this whole series.

My guess for companions are from most likely to least is...
1. Dorian Pavus
2. Scout Harding
3. Maevaris Tilani
4. Marius/Tessa (its either or I don't think both)
5. Calpernia
I'm not putting much into the last two because Marius and Tessa are from a comic book and it's about 60/40 in their favor at this point. Calpernia...you know she didn't necessarily die, but I don't know if they'd have that many returning characters as companions. Depends I guess.

It's true that we don't know as much about them as we will, certainly. But unless something major changes, it's going to be "Meh" for me when it comes to them being potential companions. And their backstories don't change that they're mercs.
I actually think Dorian is very unlikely, mostly because I suspect he'll be an advisor or similar important NPC.My guess for companions are from most likely to least is...

Well, it's kind ahard to be morally judgmental of mercs when the PC kills sooo many people over the course of a game, including for silly fetch quests.

I agree. Then again, I never really thought Varric would be a companion again, so who knows.

I think they're quite different. The PC is usually either justified or not given a choice in the killing, whereas mercs sign-up knowing they'll be potentially contracted to kill anyone, for any reason. And I don't mind if characters are put-off by a protagonist who chooses to perform morally grey/black acts; it makes sense and would be better for role-playing. But the fact that they treat being a merc like any other job is bizarre to me.

Personally I think some of the Inquisition companions or advisers might be back as NPCs - some of them perhaps only for the sake of making some interesting decisions or consequences in the game. Now that many of them don't have plot armor on them, they could perhaps die or stay on one side or another, depending on PC's choices.
^ Lol you should hear my mother (former cop) rant when we're watching various shows with law enforcement. I've heard far worse, far more ranty rants about that kinda of thing. XD
To your actual concern, I think it's difficult to tell with 100% certainty that the bird still has the hood on while flying, but I agree that it does appear that that's the case.

I'd eat my shoe if he wasn't a follower to be honest. That's how confident I am. But I also wouldn't be too surprised if he was an adviser (maybe a little disappointed though). I think Mae if not a follower will be the adviser though.

I dislike hoping for things when it is so very early, but I REALLY want Mae to be in the next game in some capacity.

As long as they portray her well, me too.
