Is this game worthwhile on older platforms?

So I decided to buy this trilogy all on my 360 since there was a deal. I am nearly done with DAO and plan to move on to DA2 and then to Inquisition. However, my question is if the game is competent on the 360.

I downloaded the required patches and updates and ran it for a bit. It looks good, but I can tell the system is struggling to keep up. I only played about 30 minutes, and the game looks playable. But I cannot account for issues that may present itself later in the game.

So, is the 360/PS3 versions okay to play? Am I missing a ton without the better versions? I've been thinking about investing in a PS4 for a while now, and DAI is on the top of the list. However, if the 360 version is serviceable, I'll hold off on the PS4 until a later date.

Can anyone shed some light on this?

You won't have access to the last (and, some might argue, most important) DLC for DAI if you're on the XB360 or PS3.  It was released for PCs and "next-gen" consoles only.

Otherwise, no problem.  Better graphics on the newer platforms, (or a PC) of course

The only thing you won't be able to do is play the descent and trespasser dlc's. Both are only for the x1, ps4 and pc. I play the game on the ps3 and my biggest complaint is the shiny hair.

I went to the gamestore down the street and they let me play the beginning of the game on the ps4. I noticed the difference right away. When I purchase a ps4, whenever that will happen, I will get the game of the year edition to play.

I hear that you will miss a considerable amount of party banter on the old-gen.

Hmm ok. Its seems like its ok for the 360/PS3, but not having the concluding DLC seems like its a kick in the face.

My last question is about the Keep. I am reading some conflicting answers. Some people say that the Keep only works if you stay on similar platforms. Like 360 to Xbox One or PS3 to PS4. I'm going from 360 to PS4. Does this mean I can't have my world state transfer to PS4? I tried checking the board, but I couldn't find the answer for this.

I think that is correct (not exactly sure). But you can always just recreate it.

Now regarding the save importer - which will transfer all your data and your purchased DLC. This feature works only from 360 to xbone and from ps3 to ps4. Check here

As someone who played it for damn near a year on 360 then playing it on PS4 I'd say hell no.  The old gen version loses much more than graphics.  Even things like the lower NPC count hurt the 360 version in ways I didn't realize until I played the proper version.  Plus the game is incomplete without Trespasser.  It's just that simple.

Skip, skip, skip unless you think you're never getting a next gen console.

Get the new version. You are missing Trespasser, which is effectively the ending to the game, the best piece of content Bioware has ever produced, and is vital for the next game.

And then there's all the other reasons to upgrade, like better graphics/performance. The game will feel a lot better once you upgrade.

No, it's not worth it. I have game on PS3 and PS4 and the PS3 version is not good.

It still has hard freezes everytime I play which means that I have to reboot and recover my playstation everytime I play as well and that takes ten minutes at least, sometimes half an hour. Graphics at some parts are bad, environment quality is good, but character is not and CC is lacking.

On older gen console you won't have access to most "important" patches like the one's that let you change color of your casual outfit- you are stuck with beige pyjamas. Multiplayer doesn't get patched either so it has less characters, areas and other multiplayer stuff that has been added after Bioware suddenly dropped all support on PS3 and XBOX360 during last summer. And you can't get most of DLCs either and since Trespasser DLC is epilogue of the story it sucks to be stuck without it. Loading times are also depressingly slow.

Your saves will not transfer from one console to another. But you can recreate your world state within the Keep itself so that's not a problem.

I played on last gen and really enjoyed it. But I just got it on next gen and it is SO MUCH BETTER! I now know what they mean when they say it's like another game on next gen.

Hold out for next gen if you can.

Based on this, I think you guys might be right. I was just kinda hoping against hope that the 360/PS3 versions would be decent enough. But vital epilogue DLC is the first strike. And some of the other things mentioned definitely seem like something that would bother me overall. Some of it seems to directly affect gameplay.

And I'm also relieved to hear the Keep will maintain your world state as well. I'd be pretty unhappy if the things I did will not transfer over. I think I'll just trade in the 360 version and get the PS4 version relatively soon.

Nothing more to add :) !
