Which do you prefer and why?

Also, are there any crazy templates you've created for the CS fights? Anything that would come close to the mayhem of the MP?

Also, I was going to create another thread for this, but **** it. After playing the Citadel DLC for the first time, I am overcome by the feels. My point is this; we would never have enjoyed ME3's MP if we weren't invested in the world of Mass Effect in the first place. Role playing as the desperately heroic Quarians, the (can't-think-of-an-adjective) Geth, the furious Krogan, the matter-of-fact Salarians and so on. Without these backgrounds the MP would have just been relegated to being regarded as a point and click shooter like Call of Duty or whatever. And would have had a much earlier demise.

Do you think the same sort of enthusiasm will ever be possible in a succeeding Mass Effect title? Given the state of the universe?

P.S.: Also, I know why Kai Leng is invincible. It's because my (on-host) N7 Slayer will wipe the floor with Shepard every time.

By the way you are right, the universe is a big part in the MP's success, but it also comes down to the game itself. Despite the numerous technical flaws (PS3 version, sigh) its foundations are well-done, it offers enough variety to stay. The weapons, the builds, the challenges and even that damned RNG. It reminds me of the second KOTOR game, it had a lot of technical problems too, but the story, the characters and the gameplay were so good that it made me not care about the former. Nevertheless, don't repeat them in ME:A.

As for the DLC, it has its moments, but it's not my favourite one. The Armax Arena is awesome, though.

Exactly this. When I first heared about that ME3 will have multiplayer, it sounded extremely interesting. Then I thought about possibility of roleplaying another race like Krogan, Asari or Quarian. Then I found out it will actually be possible to do that. It was instant preorder after that, I had to play this mp on day one! And I did. I didn't start singe player campaign until one month later, so I had no idea what the campaign and the enemies were about; this way the tempo and fear factor of enemies like Banshees first fighting against in mp was even higher. Was completely hooked from day one, it was the only game I played that whole year.

Mass Effect has this rich lore of races and the way they captured this in the multiplayer is done very well. Without the little touches of polish like Quarian bum-bum animation and Krogan laughing when they headbutt things, this wouldn't be what it is. Far from it. These additions add everything to the game, it really makes it feel like you're playing one of them. It's more than just a class. The MP in DA:I couldn't come close to this perfection with the races and classes in DA lore just don't feel as compelling as compared to the world of ME. It's just overall masterfully designed and never gets old to play.

I love the Citadel DLC, including the Armax Arena, but the MP is richer. I agree with you btw, for me no strong story and background = no bang. A good gameplay isn't enough for me to be grabbed by a game.

The gameplay in the MP is pretty average, so for me the ME lore and turians are the #1 draw to MP. I wouldn't waste my time with it if turians weren't in the game, because turians are great. The first thing I do on any account I have in the MP is the complete 200 waves with both of the glorious fat no-dodge turians, but before MP even existed I was still really into turians and all the lore surrounding turians, because turians are wonderful.  So of course MP being released and containing playable turians was a dream come true and something I'd been hoping for (playing as  a turian) ever since I first saw turians in ME1.

I didn't spend much time in the combat simulator, basically just did what I needed for the cheevos and moved on. The Citadel DLC does have the wonderful tech armor turian in that arcade,  though, and that turian con-artist in the casino was fabulous.  Turian NPCs are best NPCs.  I can only hope that Andromeda adds to the lore and has turians in both singleplayer and multiplayer.

Wow, I just realized I'm really obsessed with turians!

Goddamn, I love the gifs you guys put up around here. This one is hilarious. But Quarians are heroic! They've endured for so long, seen the immune systems of their species deteriorate, found ways to compensate and still be effective in firefights.

I actually didn't play the MP until 2-3 months after I finished my first playthrough (got the Trilogy pack). I didn't think it would be deep enough. And now, three years later, it is be the reason ME3 is one of my most played games ever. What you say about DA: I's MP is probably one of the reasons why it didn't gain a lot of traction. But it raises questions about ME: A's MP. If they only have the existing races making an appearance, will it have the staying power? Equally, if new races are added to the MP without any background being built up over a couple of games, will they be as loved?

I love the Citadel DLC, including the Armax Arena, but the MP is richer.

I just finished the DLC last night, so I only have a couple of Bronze matches under my belt. Although some of the mods and backgrounds (Turian stadium) sound good.

What? Don't you like the Armier Legion Turians? Their heavy melee is one of the coolest things in the entire game, so much so, that it makes an appearance in ME: A's trailer.

I've never been able to work with the Cabal Vanguard though.

Armier Legion has my vote for the most awesome move set in the game. The jetpacks.. just... so much wow. Completely (over?)pays back for the lack of mobility we had on the original turians. And for the Cabal Vanguard yeah, it's not easy, but her main advantage is insane mobility however powers are very lackluster in terms of damage. I made her work, but.. Her melee is really weak, and powers are really weak, all she has going for is a pretty fun mobility charge and dodge which you can combo together into some cool maneuvers. With some mods you can make her a little stronger, I tried buffing everything 20-30% and it still didn't make her feel nearly as strong as vanilla Fury for example, who has similiar mobility with much better melee and powers so this just tells how weak vanilla Cabal really is and how much help she needs.

Gotta ask TTT, have you danced an Argentine Tango with Garrus on the Citadel? An undoubted highlight of the whole trilogy.

Her melee is really weak

Don't take this bad, but it sounds like you have some L2P issues with the Cabal. Her melee is one of the best in the game, partly due to the way it locks on to the target, partly due to i-frames. My PS-less melee-focused Cabal is one of the most invincible off-host characters in the game.  :)

On PC I have quite the different impression. I think Cabal is quite lag sensitive. But on a good day the melee tears Phantoms reliably to shreds.

Oh, she is lag-sensitive on console too, which is why (as a non-host) I spec out of PS. You can still spam BF like a Boss.  :D

I went to include PS again. It's one of the few kits I haven't found a sweet spot with yet.

They are a bit small for a full squad but I'd play them, too in MP.

I enjoy the mirror match...one time was hilarious....a copy of my fem shep walked up to me..she had tech armor and was using a revenant..she gave me a strange look then Nova'd me  ....I couldn't stop laughing.

Armax arena would have been really cool if it went 11 waves & had objectives  ...for if / when the servers go down, they would have left us an almost identical match for MP.

Jesus, why do you monkeys drag Call of Duty into everything if you think it's so bad?

Anyway, I love the simulator because it let's me play with the squad mates who should have been in the god damn game to begin with.

I felt armax arsenal arena was pretty boring... MP is good because your teammates aren't dumb like the AI most times. I would rather just solo.

They should have made "combat simulator" versions of those maps available in MP as well. Instead we got reckoning... Ugh.

Prefer MP in a lot of aspects, mainly due to the variety in powers.

That said, there is one thing that I love about the Armax Arsenal arena - Mirror match. That was pretty cool.

Quarians are the biggest heroes of the entire MEverse. We fought the toasters when no one else would. We bring the strongest Fleet to fight the Reapers while the lesser races are busy ignoring them, hiding Prothean beacons and crying about krogan or some other stupidshit. Our illustrious representative on the Normandy was loyal to the cause from start to end (only the turians can also claim that, but their representative was more interested in ignoring you in favour of calibrations rather than being your bro ;___; )
