Nope, not a huge fan of the genre tbh. I also have faith in Poobisoft to release an incomplete buggy mess which will essentially be a second, full price beta.

Tried the Alpha, tried the closed Beta, doing the open Beta. All on XB1. I've got a few things to say about it:

  • The Cover system works.
  • The abilities seem fun.
  • The shooting works and weapons feel different from one another.
  • Gameplay felt more fun than Destiny, but not as diverse and fun as DAI:MP!
  • Co-op is fun.
  • Stealth isn't really an option.
  • There are some cut-scenes and story-bits but the gameplay may not be as rich as hoped/hyped.

Personally, I'm interested to I've already pre-ordered.

I tried the close beta.

In my opinion its a fantastic game if you have friends to play with. When i was solo i found it less entertaining ( didn't really want to log on ). With friends however, it was a blast.

The gameplay seems quite solid and the pvp system, though flawed in beta, seemed entertaining as well.

The PVP system looks good but they need to bump the rewards 10x. I was watching some streams earlier today and the moment you go rogue the entire server tries to hunt you down, while the rewards for evading the hunt don't seem to take that into account. Seems like it's only worth the risk when you're in a group and have really good positioning...

No love for mass effect? This is like mass effect, but with friends!

Well there seems to be an ability system that they didn't advertise in the closed beta, I see people planting turrets and doing other crazy stunts, seems pretty solid

Never actually played it if I'm honest. I sucked in just about every single shooting game  -_- So I kind of gave up on that genre by now.

People can only see rogues in a certain vicinity. Unless you're maxed out ( level 5 i believe ) then you become a global hunt for everyone. I did this during the beta and i believe it rewarded about 700 credits or so.

As long as you take cover you'll be solid most of the time. Division as is focuses heavily on taking cover. I'd at least give it a shot in the beta, A.I. are fun to fight with your buddies.

As I understand it, PvP is not that good. Buggy glitchy laggy mess as with most Ubisoft games. Single player seems to be OK but is a bit on the dull side of things because there is not enough variety. On the other hand, coop looks quite solid.

I'm certainly going to give it an honest try before jumping to conclusions, especially coop looks tempting.

I'm going to give it a whirl this weekend - odds are I will die a lot and people will enjoy killing me.  Then I will get tired of being dead and go back to a coop game.

Yup, the turret is fun. I planted a turret on top of a car behind enemies and watched while they got torn to bits. I bet turret-co-op would be even more awesome. Two turrets are better than one... ;)

There are even more abilities that Ubisoft keeps locked in the Beta and you can further customize abilities with mods you unlock as you progress with your base of operation.

Not having seen more abilities other than Turret, Pulse, Heal, Sticky Bomb and the Shield, I can't wait to see more but at the same time I'm trying to keep things in perspective.

Once I know I can build a Silent Sister / Necromancer character in the Division, I'll be happy... ;)

Well if anyone is up for a mission co-op (maybe a run or two) tomorrow at 7PM EST on PC, let me know. I think it's 4 players/group? PvE stuff. I won't delve into the darkzone, mostly will just play to explore the gameplay mechanics and have a bit of fun

And anyone who doesn't like shooters: try it out. It's basically mass effect. It's the same game that they'll sell at release, minus one or two balance changes. So you'll be able to "test" (I'd say play, since it's about a month from release, not much they can change) a quality multiplayer game for free (they spent 7 years developing this iirc?). All you need for PC is to install UPlay and create an account, and then you'll be able to preload the game as of this post.

Here's the link to do that:

Like Mass Effect? Dont be a silly goose.
I played the beta (pre - order bonus) and i really liked it. It plays smoother than GTA5 or Mass Effect, kinda like Battlefront. Its fun to just roam around, havent tried the dark zone too much, and its way better with some peeps.

I played mostly single player for about 3 hours today. At least in beta, the game seems pretty dull. I'm not sure what was specifically developed for 7 years but there are only two textures of the enemies and patterns of their behavior are essentially identical. Interface is quite clumsy, grenades do not work well. There is also "combat" state movement which is even more clumsy than regular movement as it is quite hard to rush. For some reason Shift (run key on PC) stops responding normally and the character starts crouching even without cover.

I also tried briefly dark zone and it was a mess with considerable lag.

Character is also not very responsive, moves similar to witcher, cannot loot normally sometimes or climb and it takes a few tries to actually hit the spot where you can loot. Also, shooting-wise, I could not tell the difference in accuracy or handling between an assault rifle and an smg. These were the only two weapons in 6 or seven varieties which I was able to loot while leveling from lvl4 to lvl7. There is no save at least in beta. Hopefully, they have save in the normal game.

RPG-wise, the NPC shown in the beta are rather cliche to the extreme and dialogs are on the level of Assassin's Creed. There are no conversational or other abilities apart from those related to combat, so IMO the game is not an RPG, just an action shooter with some sense of progression.

Static graphics are nice though, NYC looks pretty. Moving objects are sometimes seriously distorted.

I think I stick to Mass Effect MP for the time being.

Managed to try it solo for a few hours this morning. Not sure how it measures up in co-op, but I didn't think it was that bad. Enemies are quite similar, but there are variations and elites that will mess you up if you're careless. I didn't have any issues with the controls beyond the awkward looting. No interest in PvP, or plot in online games, so can't comment on those.

My only real complaints are that the game is too easy solo, and that some weapons do feel too similar or not damaging enough for what they're supposed to be (totally wanted to use that LMG I found but it just didn't measure up to the AK I'd been using since right near the beginning). It does seem good, though, and looks like it has a reasonable sense of progression.

Third person Borderlands in NY, pretty much. Without the crazy.

Tried it for a few hours as well. The Matchmaking system is extremely buggy, but playing Dark Zone or missions with random people feels a lot like DAMP. Tons of funs.

I played a bit more, around 2 hours, now with a group. It is much better, especially coop on higher difficulties. DZ is not that complex as long as you manage not to go rogue which is quite hard as sometimes the skirmishes had 20 people and 6-7 AI.

Still, there is nothing on the RPG side, enemies are extremely dull, and MP is laggy. Especially sticky moment is trying to tie the DZ loot bag to helicopter rope.

On the bright side, there were no crashes, error, glitches, or things stuck in the environment.

Agreed. Uninstalled it, not going back. Severe lag issues on the PVP side which really pissed me off. If you happen to land on a bad server everything gets super laggy, not fun at all..

Going rogue is almost never worth the risk as well. In other words, the PVP setting makes no sense. I'm not sure what the devs expected out of the Dark Zone TBH.

There's a lot of cool stuff on the builds side though (e.g. going for a skill build with 4K skill stat, having super low CD on the Disrupting landmine and CC'ing groups of mobs). I fear most of it will never be used/explored properly, as there's no way to tell what other team members are specced in (minus the abilities). What I mostly played with was a mix of super high DPS and very high health, while having extremely low skill stats, which worked really well in PVP.

I uninstalled it after my second session. Went all-in on damage plus headshot damage with my trusty AK and used/abused as much cover as possible. Aside from the lag and various WTF moments (which were probably just lag in disguise), it seems like it has potential and the possible builds are fun.

But it feels more like a good idea than a good game. Probably spent a couple of hours in the Dark Zone before I just wanted to play something else, so I guess I can safely say I don't plan on buying it. Gotta love open betas for decision-making.

The Tom Clancy name will sell it on it's own, but the beta needed to show more potential. I ran out of single/matchmaking missions and kept getting killed by Five-O with his fancy submachine gun.

Played for about 2 hours Saturday night after quitting DAIMP for the evening.  Murk jumped in and walked me through some of the basics, I got stuck on a 2 foot ledge for a while. I'm not sure how I can parkour but can't hop down 2 feet off a ledge.  I had to go back around the building, climb down then parkour up a 7 foot wall, rather than step off a 2 foot ledge.  I never went into the dark zone and I'm not very good with shooting (I already knew that).  I think the breaking down of items and crafting and scavenging will be fun, but as far as me playing it regularly, probably won't happen.

My son tried to install it on the XB1 but it kept saying unable to install.  I think he finally got tired of Star Wars Battlefront.
