I personally wouldn't mind if none of the species besides human migrated to Andromeda. Not because I dislike any of them... well, perhaps I dislike Krogan, but I'm not particularly attached to any of the others either.

For obvious reasons this isn't going to happen. Irony would have it that, of the pathetically little we know of Andromeda, Krogan are actually most likely guaranteed given we've seen an Alpha version of them.

Really, I just think it would heighten the tension if humanity was on its own in a strange new galaxy. I also think BioWare could do a better overall job building interesting alien species if they focused on a blank slate.

I'm sure they could make something really good out of this, but it would ****** off a loooooot of fans.

If you had none of the races coming with us on this contrived trip to escape the endings, what exactly makes it mass effect and not a new ip with its own form of space magic?

The lore? Also the title.

In this case I wouldn't mind any race being excluded as long as it made sense. I.E I'm not sure why they're in Andromeda, but let's say it was because the Council sent them there. I'd imagine the council would want at least one of their race involved with the project. So, I would expect to see Turian, Asari, Salarian, and Human at least.

While I know it's not the case lets say... It was a secret STG mission on Andromeda (again I know it's not the case but I'm giving an example), I'd imagine if see Salarians rather than another race from the Milky Way.

Was there a point for this vile act of necromancy?

Honestly, I was hoping that the "known" aliens would only be about in limited numbers. Let the new game be new, instead of "here's all the same stuff with shinier locations".

I was replaying Mass Effect today and was just made Spectre. Nothing new here, I done this any number of times. But everytime I'm "discovering" the citadel I find it funny to realize again the primary role of the Asari: to be a fanservice race. A race that can play the role of human women almost to the letter while still being an alien. A race that anyone can romance.

The Art of the Mass Effect universe pretty much says this:

To add a familar element of science-fiction fantasy, we decided one of the main species in Mass Effect would be a race of beautiful, blue alien girls. An extensive exploration of the idfea led to the asari appearing exotic and alien while still having some human qualities, which allowed them to be desirible as potential love interests.

As it says, Mass Effect is not the only science fiction work to do this. But can't this change in Andromeda? Can't Mass Effect follow a different path?

A lot of people complain about a human centric story, but the Asari make for a human centric universe. Why there are only human and Asari working as strippers? Becase that is what a human would like to see, that's why. A Turian or a Salarian are not attractive as an Asari is, but from a in-universe perpective, it makes as much sense having them taking their clothes off as it makes a human or an Asari.

Bioware tried to explain this a bit with in-univese lore, like different spcies arguing the Asari looked attractive to all of them and in ME3 dropping some info that could lead to the not far fetched conclusion that the Protheans modified the Asari to be their sex slaves. But I'd argue that when a race is introduced in a sci-fi work with such a shallow function, every attempt to develop then further will have a reduced success.

Of course, that's how I see it. And for that reason I wouldn't mind at all if Bioware tried something more... modern in Andromeda. What you guys think?

This was like 20 years ago so might not be modern enough for you:
