So, recently in general discussion there have been several threads concerning cameo appearances from older members of the series, including how a HoF cameo would be pulled off, suspected returns of older cast members in the unannounced DA:4, possible book-only characters breaking into their own game adapted roles, etc...

Just wanted to make a succinct thread to encompass any cameo/callback discussion.

For sake of the thread:

- Hero of Ferelden (HoF) canonically died at the final battle in Dragon Age Origins slaying the Archdemon per the basic worldstate of Inquisition.

- Wynne passed away in book 3 of the series concerning saving her son, Rhys, from Lord Seeker Lambert's killing blow

- Either Allistar, Hawke, or Stroud are implied to have perished in the Fade: fate unknown. (Thanks ArcadiaGrey)

- Zevran either can have perished in Dragon Age Origins or Dragon Age II, respectively.

- Sten per Those Who Speak and Until We Sleep is the new Arishok of the Qunari.

 

If there are any other follow on stories of the characters that seem significant to discussion understanding, please mention them and I will add them to the list for all persons who need background.

Stroud/Alistair/Loghain/Hawke may not have perished, they're just still in the fade.  So there's a chance you'll meet them again.

HoF didn't "canonically" die. That's just the default state, not canon... It's a bit different from something being canon.

 

Wynne won't be back, because there's no way to keep her alive, she is dead in every world state. The others could be back though.

What is this thread about exactly? Characters that might make cameos in DA4?

- Sten per Those Who Speak and Until We Sleep is the new Arishok of the Qunari.

It's worth noting that the Sten we knew is pretty much canonically the Arishok now in the games as well; at the very least, Bull mentions that the new Arishok is lacking in horns.

Off the top of my head the obvious returns in DA:4 will be the Inquisitor, Solas, and Dorian. All of their returns in some capacity have been set up in Trespasser. Some others I think will show up are Fenris, Velanna, Anders/Justice, Shale, HOF, Iron Bull(If alive), Flemeth(Come On.) and Isabella. All of these characters are tied up in story-lines that I think SHOULD resolve or progress in some way over the course of DA4 and I could probably think of more.
