I've seen several threads, blogs, reviews etc all exclaiming that you can't make a good looking Qunari. I beg to differ and here is my build to make my point. It does take a bit more tinkering than the other races, but it is possible to make an attractive Qunari. I would like to see some more hair options, like long hair with some bangs, but it is still possible with the existing options to make an attractive character.
Female qunari, yes. Male ones, not so much.
I confess I haven't tried a male Qunari build, so you may be right on that one. But I generally play a female character. If I'm going to be spending 100's of hours staring at somebody's backside running around, I prefer it be a female backside. 
And I concur about the hair. I do wish they had some long hair options, and think that would look much better. I was just showing that it is possible to create an attractive character with the existing options.

Funny, I find it the exact opposite
I was recently making a female elf and the presets sure do leave you a lot of work lol.
At least with females, you can doll them up with makeup (sure you can do it with males as well but it's not the same...) and thick lips don't look mortifying on them.

Look, I made a pretty qunari female on my own just fine. She was hornless and had a full head of hair. The main problem with the qunari females is their body weight. My qunari female's head looked a little too small for her body. I think if their bodies were thinner, they would look good.
But, I think the Frostbite engine isn't the most flattering for female models in general. It's possible to make gorgeous women in the CC, especially elven females, but the set options we are given are not the best to start with.
Qunari females, and really all qunari of either sex, should have better horn and hair options. I wanted a female with one small horn on the right side of her head, but no forehead lobes. That's the killer right there. If you want a horned qunari, he or she has to take the forehead lobes. Otherwise you have to go hornless, in which case the forehead looks normal.
Bottom line? Mods are needed.

I think if you work with the CC long enough you can learn how to make an attractive character with any race. Most of the complaints about female qunari were written when the game was first released. If you look at the "Post pictures of your inquisitor" thread, the problem has been solved, particularly with mods. However, the base DAI: CC can produce any face that you're trying to achieve with enough work.

The DAI: CC has the ability to make a wide variety of faces.
However, I tend to agree with the minority that not all races should be expected to have conventionally attractive females. I prefer the bulkier, beast-like look for qunari at this point. I also think female dwarves should not just be little humans. I preferred the gorilla arms that female dwarves had in DAO, and that male dwarves still have in DAI.

Agreed though the Qunari hair is 100 times worse.

Not necessarily as hair mods are often considered hot files in games regardless of opinion towards the vanilla options.
