The ability to move through shadows. Optional nerf: the shadows have to be linked. Costume would probably be something like a magician's outfit. Name: Prestige.

Ooh, that's unusual.

Sardaukar, be honest. Are you naming your superhero after the Christopher Nolan movie?

Anyway, I love it and I think it's important that yours is on the superhero team. The villains can't be allowed to have the darker themed superpowers.

Arti has her illusions. Let's see if she can fool us.

No way. You guys have two telepaths. I'll wait for the time travelers to wake up.

I think we'd encounter a sort of rock-paper-scissors-type scenario. I can mind control you; you can wither away Uccio; Uccio can telepathically sense when I intend to mind control him and strangle my vocal cords with telekinesis. So...an uneasy stalemate with the potential for betrayal at any second?

There is no stalemate, you never see me coming through the shadows while you sleep. Part of my world domination plan obviously, everyone needs to sleep. And when you do see me, then it is too late, you are already under my mind control. But the life of an thrall is easy, I can assure you. I am a lenient master.

Really the whole concept is built around the Transported Man trick. I'm just using shadows because they make for a transition that's nearly always going to be in the environment.

Love it! I think I might need to try to draw this villainess at some point.

Our costume ideas are so similar.

Yes! We could be the antithesis of each other, and when we combine - BOOM!

In a way, we're both using illusions - yours are visual, mine are verbal. This could get interesting. ;)

Illusions are neat and all but delusions are where it's really at. You can make someone see things that aren't there? I can make them think they're a toaster.

You didn't say you had mind control. You said telepathy and telekinesis.

Telepathy and mind control are distinct. Telepathy just means psychic communication (mind reading, projecting your thoughts, etc); mind control is...mind control. So since I claimed the powers of mind control but not telepathy, in order for me to get someone to do or think something, I still need to use language to communicate that point to them. And since you only claimed the powers of telepathy, you'd be telling people what to do, not actually compelling them to do it. Adding in telekinesis would make you able to physically move their bodies, but that's not quite the same as mind control either.

Anyway, with my actual mind control, I wouldn't have to wait until you were asleep. I could just say "Sleep" and instantly make you fall asleep. Then I'd make you delude yourself into thinking that you've succeeded in your plan to dominate the world so you'd stay out of my hair while dominate the world (and bring about world peace via mass brainwashing). So really, it's a happy ending for all. Who wants in on my utopia?! (I'm just kidding, of course. Your answer doesn't actually matter.)

I've always wanted to have the ability to manipulate anyone into doing what I want them to do.  There was a character (briefly) on Heroes who had this power and I was so jealous that someone else put it on paper before me.  Kind of like the Jedi Mind Trick, but just with words.  Imagine how many guys I'd talk out of their pants!  Perhaps it's better for everyone that I am a mere non-mutant, non-powered human.  ;)

It's a little alarming how many people want mind control.

I'm okay with not being scary, really. I like my little illusions.

Maybe I can be an entertainer in your new Utopia? I'll make Cirque du Soleil look like children's tricks.

I'm getting the impression the mind controllers just can't be bothered reasoning with people, sort of like how the time travelers don't want to get out of bed.

On the contrary, I happen to enjoy reasoning with people quite a bit. I certainly wouldn't use mind control as a replacement for discussion but rather more of a supplement. Because with some people and in some situations, reasoning just isn't possible or requires some control to make happen.

If someone has a gun and is aiming to kill me, sure, I can try to reason them out of their goal, but it's more likely going to end with a bullet in my brain. Have them put down their gun, have a seat, maybe lower their adrenaline a bit, then we can chat about why they want me dead. (Probably because I have mind control powers...)

Sure! I imagine the people could use some distraction to keep them from hatching rebellions against their mind-controlling overlord.

Now that I think about it, though, I may need you and some other super-people to help quash some of the rebellions that do succeed from time to time. Don't worry though. I wouldn't require lethal force. I'll leave that up to your discretion.

Well of course! None of these are serious comments. We're playing make-believe with superpowers and world domination. It was a reasonable assumption to make about the desire for mind control, though, so I thought I'd explain my personal ideas about how I'd use it. I mean, I wouldn't be surprised if what you said did apply to most people who want mind control.

I think of it less as mind control and more as persuasion, at least for my particular special power. Charm, even.

In fact, once people see the light of reason, they feel happy and satisfied. I just help them along the way. Barely villainous at all! I simply help them make up their minds or give themselves permission to do the things they really want to do.

If we're going to get technical, I'd say it's mind control if it's creating an effect rather than being an action. You want someone to believe something, bam, they do. Persuasion is an action, you make a case and they might be swayed by it, or their steely resolve might save them, or someone's counter argument might bring them back. Superpowered persuasion might be something like you know someone's current desire (giving you leverage) or you have a hypnotic gaze they can't escape and opens them to suggestion (letting you make your point). Or that's how I'd draw the line anyway.

Actually I do like the idea of entropy as a villainous power.

I'd just call it oodles of charisma.  :D

You can have that in the real world though, you should just claim it as part of your character so you can still take another power.

Charisma +24, would you do what I say? That's one superpower, at least really really close to it.

Good point. I can have natural charisma and take Entropy as my superpower.

Have you ever read The Black Swan, by Mercedes Lackey? The contrast makes me think of it. It's a retelling of Swan Lake from Odile's perspective. I imagine that you'd love it.

I'd go with mentalism, or illusions. The ability to make people see things, feel things, smell things and even touch things that aren't there. They see me flying or running at them while I may very well be sitting on the pavement eating popcorn.

My costume would likely be dark purple with lighter shades as highlights with dark blueish green leaf pattern.

The costume just popped into my head as I was typing it and it looks cool.

Just read through and saw this power was taken. I'll think of something else. I actually have the anime "When Supernatural Powers become Commonplace" stuck in my head at present so I may end up using something from that.

If you were thinking of mine, I think it's still pretty different. Mine was about light manipulation, and creating visuals, but not actually making people mentally perceive something that isn't there.

That said, we actually do have a few people picking telepathy and mind control, just not exactly like yours.

If it helps, I'll restrict my claim on mind control to only conscious, voluntary processes. That would leave sensory manipulation and emotional control up for grabs.

Not, of course, that people need to make sure they pick one of kind superpowers.  :P

It's just for fun after all.
