Maybe this could help:

http://barnumyay.com...-the-superpower

EDIT: You click there and it randomly gives you superpower and also what it means (and what fictional characters have that power).

I got this.

http://powerlisting..../wiki/Game_Over

Which is horrible.

I got this: http://powerlisting....ry_Manipulation

Which, while odd, is highly useful in daily life.

I would please ask that you never apologize for your over-enthusiasm. Especially when it's an over-enthusiam that I happen to share. If anything, we should both apologize to the rest of the thread for taking over it with our fangasming over each other's characters...But I'm about to do that either.  :P

Sorry to disappoint, but if I had better/more concrete ideas, I would have already shared them by now

Like Ace from Justice League Unlimited. I love those kinds of tragic characters. But while Horizon would feel sorry for the character's fear and suffering, he would push it to the side and calmly tell you to "Please hand over the anomaly."

"The anomaly." If Horizon goes about trying to depersonalize his target, Radiance might develop the suspicion that he needs to do so in order to avoid feelings of guilt.

(I'm having so much fun)

She would probably try to hide set up and illusory obstacle course with plenty of not really there versions of his target. Of course, that would be difficult to maintain after he alters the gravity in the entire area.

I imagine your heroine looking cautiously down at her plate and then up at Logos with an expression on her face that reads "Do you really expect me to eat this?" To which my villain would smile and reply "I understand your hesitation. 'Is it poisoned? What if it's drugged? Cyanide...Arsenic...A toxin that paralyses my body or corrupts my mind?' Well, my dear, I know it isn't much, but the only assurance I can give you is this: There is no substance on earth that would grant me more control over you than I have right now."

My goodness, that is so my kind of dialogue.  :D

It makes me wonder, how exactly does Logos' mind control feel? If he were to compel someone to do something like cut their own hand, would doing so suddenly feel like a natural and attractive thing to do, or would they be aware of the horror of it, even as they felt their synapses respond to his manipulation and they lift the knife?

Haha, if she vocalized that suspicion, I think his response would just be annoyed silence at how correct she is.

It would be difficult for him to maintain high gravity over a large area for any extended amount of time, so it's not something he would abuse. All the same, I don't think hiding would be an effective tactic against him. You'd need to fight, if only to buy your friend time to get further away.

Moreso the second. The basic premise is that your brain does whatever he commands you to do. "Pick up the knife and cut your hand" is a motor command, so your brain would do what it needs to make you physically cut your hand, but any other neural process that isn't necessary for that action would be left alone. You would, for instance, still be able to plead with him to take back his command while you are following it.

That said, I had proposed that he could also say something like "You want to pick up the knife and cut your hand" and that would make you actively desire to do so. However, you would be able to resist the action itself the same way you would be able to resist other desires you have. He could even say "It feels good to pick up the knife and cut your hand" and actually make it a pleasurable thing to do, but again, this wouldn't compel you to do so.

She'd probably try, at least until he made that impossible. "Careful, or I might begin to suspect you have a trace of compassion," ;) and so forth.

A good point. I think she'd be a bit outclassed, but really, force fields and a hoverboard made of coalesced light might not be the worst defense against gravity based powers...It would certainly make it more visually spectacular.

Interesting. Would it be easier for him to do it to someone while they're sleeping, do you think? If they think they're just dreaming, there would almost certainly be less resistance.

I'm picturing this horde of sleepwalking people walking right into a trap.

Now I'm thinking about a device like Cerebro in X-Men. Logos seems a lot like a dark side version of Professor X, after all. I imagine a device that amplifies his power would be a significant part of the agenda.

By the way, DomeWing, you never really settled on a costume for Logos. :P  Personally I think he sounds more cape oriented than robe oriented, considering he's not a heavy combat type of character.

I think that would depend on the amount of light avaiIable. In bright sunlight, I think Radiance would easily match or even exceed Horizon, though I think she would need to go a bit more on the offensive. Focused energy beams and light weapons would do more to force me to focus on fighting you than pursuing the person you're protecting.

It depends on what he wants to do. If he just wants to get a group of people to move from point A to point B, he would just tell them to do so and there would be no opportunity for resistance. The resistance part only comes in when he wants to indirectly trigger an action by affecting things like desire or sensation. In which case, yes, people under altered states that reduce their inhibitions or awareness would be more susceptible to those kinds of commands.

Oh, that's a great idea! I feel like kicking myself for not thinking of it on my own.

If it's alright with you, I'd be more than happy to completely defer to your judgment on that. Costume design isn't really my forte.

Now I'm actually trying to brainstorm a name for the device. It's almost the perfect hurdle between him and total global domination.

Well, is there a color you think would most suit him? Do you lean toward a minimalist or an opulent design? I'm already picturing black with elegant gold filigree stitching around the edges, and more of a suit and cape look than a wizard robe one.

It's also important that it doesn't clash with his hair color. :P

Is anyone else at all fixated enough to have created a background for their Superhero?

Mine was a debutante from a wealthy Connecticut family until she ran away to New York at seventeen after her powers manifested, and she performed as a cellist on the streets and subways to make ends meet until she was recruited and trained properly.

I rationalize giving it as much thought as I have by my intention to actually use to concept for a story at some point.

Completely unrelated to me, but I found these on youtube and I just burst out laughing. Putting them in spoilers to save space.

I was thinking "Animus," the latin word for soul which can also refer to "the basic impulses and instincts which govern one's actions" as well as "A feeling of enmity, animosity or ill will." Pretty fitting for a villainous mind control device. And I'll go ahead and propose that this device would amplify his abilities to become telepathic as well as giving it greater reach.

That sounds good to me. Something that says "I am a class above you, but I'm not going to rub it in your face."

Well, you can't really clash with black, right? Or did you have another color in mind?

What? That's crazy! Who would be into this enough to do that?

...

He grew up a shy, reticent child from a lower class family under a harsh Eastern European dictatorship. As such, he would have witnessed firsthand the abuses of power and the suffering it can inflict. However, instead of yearning for freedom from that power, he began to obsess over it. It became the way for him to deal with the atrocities around him. Whenever he witnessed a terrible injustice inflicted on another, he would close his eyes and imagine himself as the dictator, coming in and saving the person with a single command.

The government eventually came for his family. He tried to get them to stop but his cries and pleas did nothing. The soldiers laughed mockingly as they shot each member of his family in front of him. Covered in his loved ones' blood and with the muzzle of a gun pointed at his head, he uttered one final word: "Stop." And that's how he discovered his powers.
