How in the world it doesn't works well on console? It's turn based, you just have to navigate through menus! Even a calculator could do it, hahaha. Although I don't like to play on mobile devices. It's even worse if I consider I'm a Windows Phone user.

Sorry, I wasn't clear. I didn't mean gameplay-wise (though honestly, for grid-based combat, I still prefer mouse and keyboard). I was thinking sales-wise. For the most part, tactical games lately are mostly on the PC.

That's not nearly enough. They would need at least 90% to say yes to go forward with this.

Out of that 78%, how many would actually like it? So 22% already don't want it. Then I'd say another 20% would hate it once they played it. And that would only sour people to the next game.

So would it be worth doing? No.

And a Twitter poll isn't accurate anyway. I would have voted no but I'm not on Twitter.

What are you basing that figure on? I mean, obviously they're not going to base this decision on a single Twitter poll anyway, but how do we know what figure they were looking for?

I'd say the fact that the tweets garnered far more interest than Mark Darrah seems to have been anticipating indicates that quite a lot of people are enthusiastic about the concept.

My doubt is that when did EA or Bioware make a good tactics game?

I'm not on Twitter but would have voted yes. Twice.

Because I'm evil.

If it was good and I had the means to play it, sure.

No other Shining Force fans here? :(

Loved Shining Force 1 and 2. Great games and my first turn-based tactical games I think. Also loved the Front Mission series, Ogre Battle and Final Fantasy Tactics. I thought Tactics Ogre was boring though.

HELL YES!!!!! what a brilliant idea. and just so we're clear, Mark did say "IN ADDITION TO..." not "INSTEAD OF THE USUAL Dragon Age RPGs..."

think of a series like Might and Magic, it's usually a strategy game, but they also did a FPS, puzzler/strat and a TB RPG!!!!

if Bioware is to expand the Dragon Age universe off of the usual RPG path, think of all the possible genres they could expand to, this would be the best idea to pursue!!!  i would LOVE a Fire Emblem/XCom/FF tactics type TBRPG!!!!!!!

imagine how much of the world and nations you could include!!! the stories that could be done in those nations that is otherwise hard to cover in a straight up RPG!!!

i'm way too excited and i just hope people give this some honest/open minded thought, because i think this would be a great way to experience a world rife with national intrigue, war and drama!!!

I'd love to play a game like Fire Emblem but set in Thedas. I've never played an XCom game so I don't know how I would feel if they leant more towards that, but I'm almost certain that I'll love anything DA-related BioWare pulls out, lol

I want DAI to learn from how TW3 incorporated an engaging and fulfilling combat system.

Phew, for a moment I thought they would keep the battle system consistent for two games in a row!

Seriously, though, if this is a thing I hope it's a spin off and not the plan for DA4.

Yeah no problem with a spin-off in a final fantasy tacticsish gameplay but not a chance for a "main" game.

As a side-game? Yes!

I think they should make a Dragon Age game with better twitch/action combat.

User

If it has Fire Emblem style romance/companionship in it too [...]

Mark Darrah ‏@BioMarkDarrah

likely

Ooooooooh boy: I wonder if Darrah realizes the depth of this rabbit hole: Fire Emblem used to be T-RPGs with romance subplots: nowadays, they're the most involved match-making simulators this side of Crusader Kings II.

(Oh, and by the way, if they make this game, they better include several Mabari units which their own matchmaking mechanics: the Dragon Age series won't be complete until it allows your protagonist to be knee-deep in Mabari puppies)

***

As a side project, sure, do it. I'd rather have anything else as a side project though, feel like those resources could be put to use in something more interesting.

If the game proves profitable, it could bring more resources to the main games in the long run, or simply tackle story threads left hanging that wouldn't be resolved in the next main game.

***

throw the Hero of Ferelden into it and I would.

The thing is, a side-project tactical game could work pretty well as a way to reintroduce the Warden Commander (who's not always the HoF) as a playable character: your high-ranking Warden remains in Vigils' Keep, or whichever place is chosen to be used as HQ, doing administrative duties while his/her underlings are dispatched on different battlefields and seldom if ever take the field him/herself because s/he's busy leading the whole organization until the final act, when the Commander is reintroduced as a souped-up unit à la TG Cid for the climax, and then..;

Well, do you people know how X-Com 1 ends? A tactical spin off would be the Perfect opportunity to kill the HoF for good: think about the many benefits:

  • If the HoF performed the ultimate sacrifice, the Orlesian Commander is given the opportunity to finally become more than a mere cypher.
  • Those who keep demanding for the HoF to be brought back get what they want.
  • The HoF dies at the end

***

So... they possibly have enough funding from EA to develop two DA games at once...? Can we just have an uber-amazing DA4 instead? Please?

It depends: I never cared for the multiplayer in Bioware Games (if anything, the fact that so many Mass Effect 3 side quests threw you into minimalist multiplayer arenas instead of full fledged dungeons because that's where a lot of resources went pissed me off), so if This is scrapped for another single-player game, I won't complain. (Multiplayer enthusiasts will probably sing a different tune than me, though)

***

I love the Dragon Age universe and merging the storyline and aesthetic with the fluid gameplay and politics of a Fire Emblem game (which are usually lacking in story but otherwise good)

The portable episodes have simplified stories: the home console versions are different beasts (the Jugdral saga is brutal, story-wise)

***

Any chance to flesh out Thedas would be great, and this gives us the chance to use regular soldiers who are usually relegated to the sidelines in the usual Dragon Age games.

Indeed, although games like the Fire Emblem or X-Com are typically about tiny elite vanguards, not the rank & file grunts.

***

(Just, please, no wardens...)

Try to see it as a compromise: the spinoff gets Wardeny so that their fans don't complain when DA4 focus on other stuff.

(Plus, if they use it as an excuse to kill the HoF onscreen, it gets my vote on principle)

***

No other Shining Force fans here?

I'm doing my very best to not think about the travesty the series has become in recent years

Oh, hell yes. Make it a spin off, though.

"XCOM" but then in the Thedas universe? I certainly would play that game :)  On PC only though, i'm not that fond of mobile/portable games other than the '3 minute busstop' kind of games ;)

Also, i'm glad to hear that it wil be project beside the next DA game and not the DA4 'main game'.

I'm curious about what they are planning to do with this concept, new reason to get back on the BSN more often.

I would love a XCOM style game with DA flavour and lore. Just as long as they keep XCOM's difficulty and permadeath for your troops.

Like Fire Embremu? Sure. I prefer Dragon Age to be Dragon Age though and BioWare usually don't do well outside of their comfort zone. Fire Emblem is great though.

While possible, I'd be a bit surprised if they were that far yet. Though I have no doubt there have already been high level discussions, making sure they have the resources to do it and a framework as to how they want to do it. I'm certain this was not some off-the-cuff question... Though I would expect some more market research before it got greenlit.

Before ME3, Bioware hadn't done multiplayer before, but I'd say that turned out to be pretty fun. I think people need to give tactical RPGs (or SRPGs - strategy RPGs) a chance. They can be surprisingly addictive.

Sooooooooooo...

1. The question is on social networks, not on official forum aka here, means Zynga Farmville clone on Facebook.

2. No romances? That's not Dragon Age game.

3. My first 2 points are BS, and it's another pay2win garbageware (heroes of DA) for phones?

No. I don't want anything like that. And because the question is not here, I can't vote:

NO

Go to hell EA with crap ideas about products of no cost and make proper epic DA4 already. You're not a poor company that just can't afford funding tripleA RPG.

So "screw you fans of Kotor 1&2" MMO was not made by Bioware?

Riiiiiiiiiight.
