What are you basing that figure on? I mean, obviously they're not going to base this decision on a single Twitter poll anyway, but how do we know what figure they were looking for?
I'd say the fact that the tweets garnered far more interest than Mark Darrah seems to have been anticipating indicates that quite a lot of people are enthusiastic about the concept.
I'm basing it on the fact that BioWare would need to turn a profit on this. Unless of course it's made by a third party, in which case the third party is taking most of the risk. But, considering that the Twitter feed is followed mostly by fanboys and fangirls who will buy anything DA related, it should be at least 90% approval before they consider it. This was asking about taking the series in a new direction. It wasn't just about making a new game within the same genre. This is a genre change, essentially. When you do something that radical you have to factor in that many of those screaming "yes" at this will actually not like the new direction once they see it. You also need to factor in the casual fans who don't just buy anything related to the series. These gamers save their money for the major titles, and this would be a side title type of game. You also want it to be well received by a large margin. A 50-50 split will basically balance out to a 5.5 or maybe a 6 user score. A score like that will only hurt future main releases. And right now the poll only had 49% say yes, while another 26% or so was split among demanding it be available for specific platforms. That's a terrible number. Not only are the brand loyal fans only at 50% (assuming all are even brand loyal), but more than that some of the yeses have conditions. You've got the casual DA fans being largely unaccounted for in the poll because it's on Twitter, and you've got a good 22% that absolutely will not buy it because they hate the idea entirely. Those are horrible numbers.
23% want PC only, not handheld. 3% want only on handheld, not on PC. So logically BioWare will go the PC only route because they would rather please the 23%. However, the handheld is already developed for. So would BioWare release it on both? It's a tough situation. If they release a handheld type game on the PC, then PC gamers might hate it because of the limited graphics and handheld type controls. We have all read the complaints about the PC version having console-like controls. But the point is BioWare would likely alienate some percentage in doing this, or else make more work for themselves by developing the Fire Emblem engine to fit the PC.
The tweet count only shows how many responded. 22% of those tweets hate the idea completely, and I'll tell you right now that number is much larger than 22%. It's a bad risk. At least 22% won't buy it at all, how many of the 49% won't like it? Which percentage will be alienated by the choice of platform? And what are BioWare's intentions? Just put out a quick and easy handheld game? 23% of those that would buy it said no to handhelds. So yeah, BioWare is in a bad spot with this. They should forget all about it and simply stick to making what is already developed.
Ya know, they paid all this money and wasted all that time adapting the first person shooter engine of Frostbite 4 to Dragon Age's style, and they're just letting it go to waste. They should be releasing DLC adventures for Inquisition to keep the game fresh and exciting until DA4 goes into development in the same gaming engine. It will make them tons of money and save them a lot of time when it comes to importing our characters over into DA4.
