I am really confused, and the game doesnt really explain, about the lore side of things. I tried to read and watch some videos but they are very detailed, and I am not really into lore. I just want to learn enough to know what the game is talking about. So in one or two sentences can you explain the following:

1) Chantry

2) Templar

3) Mage

4) Inquisition

And anything else that will help me understand what the hell is going on in this game. Thanks.

Also, one other question: So in this game in order to progress I have to use the War Table? Or can I just run outside of town and keep walking?

1) Chantry

Think the equivalent of the medieval Catholic church.  Only with Joan of Arc as the messiah, rather than Jesus.

2) Templar

The military arm of the Chantry, whose primary role is keeping dangerous Mages under control and protecting Mages from the general populace, that fear and distrust them.

3) Mage

People who can use magic.  In the Dragon Age setting, they're socially more like Marvel Comics mutants than classic fantasy wizards, though.  They are forced to live most of their lives in "Circles" (basically schools), as even after being trained they are considered dangers to themselves and others.

4) Inquisition

A precursor to the Chantry, which spread the "Andrastian" religion (which the Chantry preaches) primarily by force, in order to maintain order in a devastated world.  The name is the inspiration for the group in this game, but actual organization is pretty different from its namesake (and is mostly explained in the game itself).

Thanks, that analogy really helped. Mages are like mutants, and mage circle is like Charles School for the Gifted.

I was really confused because I didnt understand why Templaers would hate Mages, because I was thinking of them as a playable class in game, like temps are melee class and mages are like a magic class.

Mages can be possessed by demons and become abominations or practice blood magic that can control minds. That's why the Chantry forces them to live in the Circle.

You do have to use the War Table to initiate the main quests (those with the breach markers) and to open up new maps. However, you do not have to do the smaller operations unless you want to (although by doing so you gain influence, which can be used to unlock perks, and acquire loot).

1. The Chantry is the organization founded around the Chant of Light, which is the major religion in Thedas revolving around the Maker and his favorite human female Andraste, and it teaches a many things about the creation of existence as the people of Thedas understand it, and it is historically correct about some of those things.

2. Templars are warriors who train in anti-magic and take lyrium to help them deny/nullify magical energy, and because of this ability they are tasked by the Chantry to watch over mages to protect the people from magic and slay any mage who is possessed by a demon.

3. Mages are born with the ability to use mana to create magical effects in the real world, they usually discover their abilities during childhood, and they are usually sent to Circles where they learn to control their magic and resist possession by spirits that target mages specifically because of their close connection with the Fade.

4. The Inquisition began some 800 years ago as an organization that hunted down dangerous mages and demons to slay them, but they eventually pledged themselves to the Chantry, splitting into Templars who watched the mages, and Seekers who watched the templars to make sure they were performing their duties as directed, until the present day when they were called upon to close the Breach, find those responsible, and restore order.

You must use the table to open up new quests and new maps.

Another thing you should know is that the Fade is a parallel world to the real world made of magical energy which is shaped by thought and his home to countless spirits and demons.

Also, the Darkspawn taint is a curse unleashed by ancient Tevinter mages who entered the Golden City in the Fade and brought the curse back with them to the real world.

1) Chantry is the dominant human, and in many cases, elven religion on Thedas.  It teaches the Maker (the creator of Thedas) has turned away from Thedas due to past sins, and treats magic as a dangerous, potentially corrupting force

2) Templars are the "Knights" of the Chantry. They are trained as mage hunters, and consume a substance called lyrium to fuel their antimagic abilities.  They recently broke away from the Chantry to pursue renegade mages when the Circle of Magi declared its independence.

3) Mages are people with a stronger than normal connection to the Fade (the realm of dreams)  This connection allows them to perform magic, but also makes them susceptible to demonic possession.  Like Templars, they consume lyrium to fuel their power.  The Chantry tried to regulate mages via the Circle of Magi, but abuses in the system led to the mages declaring their independence, triggering a civil war in the Chantry between them and the Templars

4) Inquisition   In ancient times was an organization designed to curb abuses of magic.  It was later incorporated into the Chantry and became two organizations:  The Templars and the Seekers.  In modern times the Inquisition has been revived after the explosion at the Conclave decapitated Chantry leadership.  It's new mandate is to find out who caused the Breach and put a stop to it.

While you can get to overland travel by walking to roads leading off the map edge, it's not really very useful to do this. You can just get to the map from the menu pretty much anytime ypu aren't in a dungeon or something.

I think this is a quote from the OP, not me.  :P

I was also going to add to my last post that the War Table is also necessary for some personal quests, like Josephine's, so to me it really is an essential part of the gameplay experience. :)

Yeah, I just wanted to clear that up for the OP; don't know how the quote ended up attributed to you. Sometimes you discover something that works and never pick up on another way that also works.
