There are much more painful and intrusive tutorial sections in other games, ME really isn't that bad.

And since I play ME periodically between other games, I for one start it up and think 'wait...how do I vault over this again?'

So they're kind of useful sometimes.

I would however like the ability to just turn off the tutorial notes and dialogue in the settings menu like some other games let you do.

As long as I don't have to fight a 20 foot demon wielding a hammer to get the gist of the game, I'll be fine.

I thought you'd be all over that kind of thing, Solaire.

Psh, please. I tried tanking that thing with a broken sword hilt.

No praising here.

I miss instruction manuals.

Yes, instruction manuals. I'm that old. ¬__¬

Me too. And no forced Internet connection to install the game. Those were the good old days.

I know this will inevitably seem like a "Everything was great back in the old days!" post, but I do think that some of the older games had a handle on how to implement tutorials without using words and without breaking immersion from the game. A couple examples, for anyone who has the time to waste:

I do not object to a 5 minute basic lesson for new players. Its when they have things popping up hours later that annoys me.

Yes we are. Judging by the average skill level of players I meet in ME3MP, I'd say we need more waaaayyy more tutorials, not less. Most can't even take out a Cannibal without needing a revive in the middle, and get Banshee hugged or pegged by a Fantum every other wave.

It's probably all the SP scrubs trying to get their EMS up. Biower needs to train their pugs better.

So can we not have those irritating tutorial moments thrown into the gameplay of the main story? The most irritating moment for me in ME2 was being stuck behind Miranda's door in the beginning, because I forgot to switch back to the vanilla Coalesced after giving myself unlimited ammo for most weapons.

In case you don't remember, Shepard picks up an empty pistol from a locker inside the lab he was regenerated in and he has to grab an ammo clip from the floor to reload before venturing elsewhere. If you can't take the clip, you're stuck because the game won't let you continue.

There are moments like this in the beginning of ME3 as well, with Anderson repeatedly pestering you to grab some ammo, grab a medkit and "have you forgotten how to shoot?". And I'm like SHUT YOUR CANDY BUM UP, you old bag, I know how to shoot! I just prefer to blast them pesky Husks into oblivion with a Biotic Flare.

A good portion of the Andromeda players (I'd like to say the MAJORITY) will have played the previous games, so we'd know how to shoot. So quit treating us like retards and spare us those STUPID in-game tutorials, OK?

Thank you.

That's your bad. Tutorials are needed not because we are retarded (which many of us are, apparently) but because it's more of a ceremony. If you cut tutorials other people will complain too

I've already explained "the big deal" when I gave my ME2 example.

So the big deal is that you yourself broke the tutorial by giving yourself infinite ammo even though the game was not originally designed to give you the ability to have infinite ammo? And it's the tutorials fault somehow?

Normally I would say that tutorials should be optional.

Though in the case of Mass Effect they're so insanely short that I can hardly be bothered to care much if I have to go through them.

If you're making modifications to the game files, you risk breaking stuff. This isn't limited to just tutorials.

I would like the tutorial to be seperate from the game and allow players to skip it, if they heard it before. Something like a training sequence.

If you are new to the game, you'll play through it. If you're a veteran, you can skip it. Boom, everyone's happy.

That moment when you play me3mp for the first time in many many months on a brand new account with basic soldiers and weapons. Nearly outscoring the BoTb leader with your level 1 mattock who needs to nuke spawns to save face. Yeah last night. Oh dem pugs.

LMFAO

I am angry at Bioware because when I cheated it caused a glitch in the game. HOW FRAKING DARE BIOWARE create a game with tutorial moments in their game that ruin my cheating!!!!

Every day gamers show just how unreasonable they are and how actually "stupid" we are. It does in appear that the title of this thread is so very wrong. Oh the irony.

The thing I hate most about tutorials is the first thing I do when I start a game is immediately go to key mapping and change the controls to the way that I want them... and some of the worst offenders (*cough*ME2*cough*) don't adjust the tutorial instructions to my new control scheme.

Especially when the game's default control scheme is idiocy (*cough*ME2*cough*).  Press SPACE to interact with an object?  Seriously?

I specifically remember a game on my newest account nearly getting kicked from a Plat lobby by some Reegar toting sexbot and some melee puggernaut for bringing a Quarian Female Infiltrator with a Mantis and Scorpion I to a Plat game......

It ended up being an awful 35 min Cerberus game with me carrying them to the tune of 270k points (next closest was the sexbot well over 100k behind, who died on pretty much every wave after 6).

Pugs need moar tutorials so I don't keep needing to buy more backpacks to put them in after they break.

Toggled tutorials (or even 2-3 degrees of them) would be wonderful.

Bioware's gotta realize that at least a large fraction of MEA players will have played at least ME3 and will know over half the things they interrupt our STORY AND GAMEPLAY EXPERIENCE with.

Plus, if we cut out the tutorial mission in DAI, we'd be cutting like an hour of gameplay.

<blah blah blah>

That's your fault, not the games. If you don't have enough sense to remember to pick up ammo lying on the floor because you are cheating, that's not my problem.

The tutorial is not for veterans of the series, but for newcomers. You better believe Andromeda will have one similar. As for Anderson joking about Shepard not knowing how to use a gun, it at least has some validity due to the fact he has been under house arrest for the past six months because of the arrival incident.
