Sign that one hasn't paid attention to the ME universe for some time: when someone spells "Spectre" in all caps and you first think of the villainous organization from the James Bond universe.
We need white cats in MEA...

I thought being a spectre didn't matter anymore anway since ME2, Bioware itself never cared for it for sure...so why it should make a peappearance in a new galaxy without a council to give that status?
But if the head of SPECTRE in MEA is voiced and acted by Christoph Waltz it might actualyl be interesting again ...
The whole spectre thing was little more than just a plot contrivance so that Shepard wouldn't have to face any kind consequences. Thing was, it was actually redundant as even in ME1 Shepard operated in the ass end of space in uncharted or near-lawless fringe worlds where he could've gotten away with anything anyhow, and seeing how he got away with shooting up a nightclub and potentially killing it's owner on the citadel itself, it wasn't needed there either.

Better earn it by killing a true SPECTRE.
The Role got to be more important than helping refugees escaping the Milky Way.
If there is Council there is SPECTRE too.

Hopefully they have as much of a role in ME:A as Roman Praetorians have in modern English Parliament: ****** NONE.
ME:A is a chance to build upon an interesting and rich setting, without being shackled to many of the bad choices made in the earlier ME series (mainly ME:3). I would hate to see the series stagnate further by keeping in something as limited as the SPECTREs.
Calm down son. You seem perturbed

In other words N7, is basically the human only version of the spectres. The training they do can be found in the wiki but I wouldn't mind being n7, here's a thought though. Vega was accepted into the n7 program, what if we're Vega?
With the ark, pathfinders could be a special multi species group led by n7 operatives. So perhaps we're leading a single of many groups? Other groups could be deeper into andromeda or other clusters

N7 is a vocational code in the Systems Alliance military. The "N" designates special forces and the "7" refers to the highest level of proficiency. It applies to Alliance personnel who have graduated from the Interplanetary Combatives Training (ICT) program.

Why would it be led by N7 operatives? N7 operatives would simply make up the human portion of the multi species group. Salarians would be STG members etc.

I would like to start off on new basis for the main plot.... I mean, N7 is fine, but then if we add spectres, Cerberus (if I remember correctly you see Cerberus ships on the short trailer, plenty of people were so crazy about that...) and I've also read we will discover an ancient civilisation... We already had all of that on the ME trilogy.
I want to play a ME game with ME stuff inside, but not a copy/paste story from the original trilogy.

This is my fear, as well. This ancient civilization sounded awfully like reapers to me, and we've been down that road. If BioWare is that creatively bankrupt, they may as well beg for help from BSN. I know that's a last resort, given the looneys who live on here, but if it's for the sake of a better game...

They might as well do that now, because it seems like they're sucking @ coming up with new ideas and a new story. BioWare is circling down the drain already because other devs are making their games better than theirs, it seems to me that they don't want to learn nothing and flipping people the bird. Hey this is a new year and other devs out there are not f*****g around, if they screw this up they will lose their relevance and starting to fade. This is my fear, as well. At the very least it might humble them. I'm just hoping BioWare steps up to the plate and starts competing with some of these other great open world RPGs. If they make a bad game, we've been down that road before (DAII). As long as they learn from it, that's ultimately what matters.

yeah, or protheans.
I hope Bioware will be brave enough to propose new things, I'm glad for example they left Shepard behind. I loved my Shepard and I miss her, but her story is done and I'm glad to play a new character.
So let's hope they will have enough courage to impose new concepts and to not let themselves sink in nostalgia a re-use the same old strings.
Maybe they also fear the change, because many gamers will certainly complain if it's too different from the original... anyways people complain all the time about everything so I hope Bioware is prepared and also that they learnt from their past mistakes (no ME3 ending this time please, REAL endings with very different paths)

What? You didn't like blue, green, and red? I thought it was cute...
Since BioWare recruited the lead writer who wrote the story for Halo 4, I'm expecting the story to be quite different. It might not be a Mass Effect clone, but it might be a Halo clone!

I'd imagine that roles like "Spectre" and "N7" would be throwbacks to Milky Way life. If you're sending a mixed race exploratory force you want to send people who are reliable and well trained. It's hard to get better trained personnel then Spectres and N7's (STG, etc) for your combat detail.
I'd almost put money on it that there will be crew on the Ark that have held those titles. Of course now they're apart from the Milky Way and no longer under the Council/Alliance they don't really represent all that much. Being a Spectre doesn't mean immunity because there's no Council to rite off your crimes anyway, etc
They're just throwback titles with no real meaning other than to connect the series; simply a part of character history to give understanding of their background and skills. Honestly I'm OK with that.

Well doesn't that depend on how things are in Andromeda. Who's in charge? is a free for all. is there a colonisation equivalent of the council managing it. If there is then SPECTRE wouldn't be just a throwback title but the teeth of this council. Equally if the races retain their own individuality within this then humans are going to want some military muscle so retaining an N7 system within a co-operative system would make sense.

oh yeah, it was sooo cute. I wish we had a purple ending too. And a pink one.
I never played Halo, so I hope to be surprised in a good way. But that reminds me of that discussion we had here about the lead writers, some people thought Halo 4 story wasn't that great. Oh well, we can't tell anything for now so, just wait and see !

Of course it depends on who's in charge and what systems have been put in place. As does any speculation relating to the game. The titles could hold closer meaning to the originals depending on circumstances.
Given that there's quite a vocal group here telling BioWare to get as far away from everything in the Original Trilogy and actively wanting no mention of Spectre or N7 because they think it'll limit the game I wrote the idea as a way to tie the series together without tying the series together if you know what I mean.

Yeah. I wanted a rainbow color ending personally. Maybe MEA will accommodate my loneliness...
I actually thought Halo 4 had the best story out of all the main series games. What I can tell you is it had the best character development for the main characters out of the entire franchise. If Schlerf can do anything right, it's about making believable and engaging characters for you to get involved in. The main plot wasn't that interesting, but the relationship between Master Chief and Cortana as the game progressed was an absolute blast!

I don't want to be 'the guy' deciding the fate of our species or a peon following orders; just once I'd like to go rogue, take the ship and crew and go on my own adventure. You can have it back when I'm done.
I know the perfect game for you!!!
