Inspired by QMR's thoughts on the design of the cannibals: Why make a gun out of a human so another creature can use it instead of huskifying that human and giving it a cheap gun instead of using a whole human that could have served as an efficient shock trooper?

Why doesn't cerberus troopers ever use the harrier? What reason is their for them not too? Why would cerberus develop a weapon that can easily be copyed/stolen by their enemies and never utilize it themselves? Why couldn't dragoons use them? Cerberus is dumb, illusive man is even more dumb, I don't know how many cerberus hate threads they are, i suppose this has more to do with the illogical military strategy of the illusive man.

It's not like they can use the "funding" excuse either.

I suspect they just didn't download the DLC yet.

What? Cerberus troops do use the Harrier. I've seen it prominently in the hands of Cerberus troopers during cutscenes.

Cerberus Engineers use the Hornet, Cerberus Centurions use the Talon, I forget what snipers use (the Raptor?), and the Phantoms use those stupid swords.

But I'm pretty sure that the Troopers use the Harrier.

As far as evil capitalism and corporate science goes... could do much worst as in The Expanse's Protogen. But then again the series is written after ME.

They use the single shot Mattock.

I understand you thinking this.  The Mattock, Harrier, and Argus look similar.

Game antagonists are usually dumb, particularly when you've got one (or a handful) of people against a much larger force. It's tricky to keep coming up with reasons why they shouldn't curbstomp you in the first fight that doesn't make them look dumb.

Why don't any of them carry heavy weapons. One use of the cain against Shepard, game over. Or use a cain to kill the female Krogan. No Alliance between Krogan and turians.

Which is why Cerberus gets that honor so the Reaper forces manage to continue to look like a real threat since you fight them less often.

Good point. Probably why we didn't actually fight the Collectors that often in ME2 too.

Even their huskified super soldiers need a degree of training, even if they are expendable shock troops. Training them to be good at using Talons is probably easier and faster.

At least, I'm going to imagine that could maybe, possibly apply for the Assault Troopers and Guardians. I have no such explanation for Centurions. I'm going to go along with "Cerberus is dumb" on those guys.

Hardly surprising, seems Cerberus is using intelligence dampening fields. Even Shep gets dumber than usual every time they show up.

Sort of related:

In another SciFi series (Perry Rhodan) the enemies of 'the swarm' arc (from the 1970s) manipulated the gravitational constant in the galaxy to make everyone dumber.

Mass effect fields do pretty much the same thing on a smaller level. So its actually the ME fields that make everyone stupid! This also explains the reaper nonsense; the biggest drive cores in the universe!

Or bombard the site from orbit.

Or have Chronos station self destruct. Not only would it kill Shepard, but wipe out Hackett's fleet.

Ah the realism DLC only for $ 19.99. First mission, you get strafed by air support all the time, so the mission takes hours. If you haven´t given up you get bombed in the next mission by Cains and finally from orbit.

"Just a game" is not an excuse for bad writing, also the harrier doesn't need to the do the same damage as the one available to the player

Before we talk about how poorly the Cerberus military/Husk armada is I want to talk about how stupid TIM is. His whole plan in ME3 is so stupid.

I don't know how many people we use to build the Crucible but seriously, what did he hope to gain from stealing the data for the Crucible? That he could build it with his huskified slaves? The big problem with Cerberus in ME3 is the logistics of their operations. In ME2 you ask EDI how many there are in Cerberus and she says there's no more than over 150 people in total or so. 6 months later they are in every corner of the galaxy and they send out probably millions of troops in total. I guess it could be justified by saying Sanctuary had been going on longer than we knew or something, but it's just a huge asspull either way.

I was never expecting Cerberus to turn on you as in them becoming a direct opposing force you have to fight. I just thought we would be betrayed in a diplomatic sense and TIM would use his special brand of cunning and inside-sources to get his way. Hell, I expected him to snake his way to power or control or whatever he might've wanted in ME3 by bargaining or something. You find a way to defeat the Reapers and he proposes, dunno, perhaps offering you experiments he made that can give you an edge against the Reapers but then in secret it would be something to advance humanity via Reaper tech, secret Alliance resources or simply the Crucible. The main point is just that Cerberus shouldn't have been a military opposition in the game, but a diplomatic one.
