So Bioware, was your family killed by SD TVs or something?

Bioware, is it possible for you guys to make a patch? I can't afford an HDTV. I'm a full-time student and my job only gives me hours about two times a month.
Check out the VGA cable I mentioned on the previous page (I'm sure others have brought it up over the course of this thread as well). It's around $30 and very practical for someone in your situation.

Ouch.
Here is my next practice: Your account doesn't seem to have Mass Effect 2 registered. Cheap or lazy?

I'd buy the game if I thought I'd like it, unfortunately from what I've seen on the forums, I probably wouldn't. But this thread caught my eye because it relates to personal finance. Since I'm big on saving $$, I'd say that means I'm here because I'm cheap. Except its just not one person's issue. Many people have been complaining about the text size being to small.

I find the text to be somewhat readable at times, however I would prefer it if the text was given a black background so that the whiteness of the text would go well against the black background.
I would also like it if the text size was increased somewhat, or maybe have the player customise it themself via the options menu.
I don't understand why Mass Effect 2 has this issue but Mass Effect 1 didn't.
Don't get me wrong: I love Mass Effect 2 but this text issue is quite annoying.

It's just a common courtesy from developers to the fans to give every customer that buys their game the utmost quality and peak performance they can, and that includes the majority of buyers with standard-TVs.
It was never a game breaker, but merely a small annoyance, but one that could be remedied, either through an update or as a fix for future installments in the franchise.
Nobody is asking them to NOT make the text work on HD-TVs, but by making it work well on standard TVs... who loses? Seriously? That's a win for all parties involved and everybody would be happy.
But my financial situation has NOTHING to do with this game-related issue. Either I can spend hundreds of dollars on an extra TV for the few games that I have moderate difficulty reading text on, or Bioware could make the font slightly bigger, or at least ME1's size, and make not only me as an individual happy but the vast majority of other standard TV owners happy, and, once again, everyone wins in the long run.
I completely agree with you.
I've just buyed the game today, and the first thing I noticed was the tiny tiny text, from the main menu to the game itself.
The font Bioware used when you have to choose an answer is incredibly small, and I have an SDTV but it's a big one (4/3 aspect ratio, 33'' big) and still I can't read anything.
It just makes no sense to me. Even if you can read it on HDTVs, why put text so small?! I see tiny text more and more in games, and I just can't understand why. Nobody in previous generations of console complained about the text being too big, and now developers put tiny text everywhere that just can't be read if you don't have a BIG HDTV and you sit near the screen.
But why?
I just hope Bioware fixes it. Playing an rpg and not being able to read anything just makes no sense. They should just put a bigger font... how hard could it be?

he should not have to fork up the extral 300 on top of his budget to thoroughly enjoy the game.. so i dont think its unreasonable to ask bioware to modify the text size. i think people need to go outside their little box and see things from someone else's point of view..

The thing is, he doesn't have to fork over anything. Bioware obviously developed this game with HD in mind. If people can't afford to play in HD, for WHATEVER reason, then they just have to deal with it. Bioware made the decision. Now its up to the comsumer to make a descision on whether or not to support this Bioware product with their $$. Truth is, none of us have any idea how hard it would be for them to change the font size. We haven't seen the code.

That's fine that some of you guys cant afford to get a HDTV or if you feel as if its not worth it. We have people saying the text is too small, the text is too big, the text is perfect. The fact is that every game will look different depending on what television its playing on. The developers have nothing to do with it.
Well, technically the developers do have something to do with it; they did not include an option to change the font size. Some of the text is also difficult to read depending on whats going on behind it. This is the reason that there should be an option to change the font size.
I do not see how asking for that option is worthy of all the crap being flung at the people requesting it, though. *shrug*

however, saying 'just upgrade to HDTV already...' is not. and unfortunately ive seen that kind of attitued quite a bit in this thread.

I don't really think "Just get a HDTV" is a helpful suggestion. Sure, most of us (including me) have HDTVs and we don't need to worry about this issue w/ small text on SDTVs. But HDTVs are not cheap, and it's kind of rude to assume that it's no big deal for somebody to go out and spend $500+ on an HDTV because of unreadable text in ME2. It's really something that developers (like Capcom w/ Dead Rising, and Bioware with ME2) should keep in mind as they are testing.Im4g1ne wrote...
Dead Rising anyone? Lol. Just get a HDTV and that'll end your issues.

But the Xbox 360 does have an option to support SDTVs in the dashboard, and on the game cover I don't see any warning saying "to read this game you need an HDTV".
I payed the game 60 buck just like anyone else. My money is good, so I want to use what I've payed for. I don't think I'm asking too much.
It's just a font. They just have to put a bigger font. How hard could that possibly be?
And even if it's hard, they should support every player. Xbox 360 does work with SDTVs, so the games must work just fine, too.
Am I asking for the moon?

Oh Believe me I got my stuff straight. Games are the only real luxury item I buy and even then I only buy them once every 4 or 5 months. Plus I said I dont have $200 to spend not $60. $200 and $60 are very different from each other in terms of having them available.VisceralVillain wrote...

Not really actually, I bought my xbox 360 back in 2005 when it came out and back then I had way more money than I have now. A year and a half ago I had my house get foreclosed and the last financial thought I'm having is an HDTV. I dont have even $200 to spare right now.Crimson-Engage wrote...
HD here and the text is fine. OP, stop living in the stone age. HDTV's aren't that expensive. If you can afford a current gen console i'm sure you can afford a nice 26" HDTV for the same price.
If that really is your financial situation then why are you spending even $60 on a video game, when you don't even have $200 to spare? It sounds to me like you need to get your priorities straight.
In regards to the HDTV situation, I do understand your plight. Though I'm not in the same boat, I can see where that would be frustrating. Have you tried getting some VGA cables and hooking your XBox up to your computer monitor?? It works great. and far cheaper than a new TV

It's not just a font size issue, it's a GUI issue. If they adjust the size of the text, it would mean a re-design of the layout in certain situations where dialoge boxes and interfaces overlap and are not meant to obscure game play field of view. For them to do this, it would require a re-working of the GUI for the entire game start to finish. Sure they would not have to touch the underlying game, but the tuser interface and ext overlays would require manpower and resources Bioware/EA has already had move on to other content/projects.
That's why I still stand by my opinions that your pleas no matter how sincere and vocal, will be futile at best. They made their choice during the design faze long ago to go with what they have released.
Bioware/EA is not Rare, and Mass Effect 2 is not your kid friendly B&K Nuts and Bolts. Expecting them to behave the same in this situation is false hope.
