You're assuming everyone is going to be in your financial situation they "grow up".
The way you write this, its as if you think buying an HDTV is a waste of money. Like it or not technology is moving forward, developers are always looking for ways to improve graphics and such. You and I both know that. While im not saying SDTV's are obsolete. I am saying developers now are looking ahead, and Optimization for SDTV's is not something they are obligated to do.
Handheld thinks regardless of which way the technology is moving whether backwards or forwards bioware should have everyone in mind and not just people with HDTV's Handheld knows if a game company is smart they will develop a game to be used by everyone HDTV or not.
Handheld also thinks while you are right they arent obligated to do it they are obligated to make a great game which anyone can play and when they decide to make a game in which only people with HDTV's can see the game properly then that could transfer into a loss of sales which makes it there obligation.

I'm sure we would all love to have HD TVs is we could get them at the moment. But it isn't like the SD TV is actually holding the graphical and processing power of the game back. The game is still the game, just with a few less lines for us. The only problem we have is that a cosmetic choice is preventing us from enjoying the game properly. And we know it is only a cosmetic choice because the previous game implemented text perfectly in both SD and HD. We arent asking for them to keep working with PS2 technology or something like that. We're just hoping they can bump the font size from 6 to 12 (I know it wouldnt be that simple)

Blizzard catered to lower end computers when WoW came out, and got 11 million subscribers as a result. Last time I checked on ToR, they were trying to do the same thing.
It's not like a major thing, like trying to get the game running on black and white TV's or something. It's just text, and I'm pretty sure they could of spent the extra time to increase the font size up a few notches.
Sorry but thats a horrible example.
You're talking about games that are unplayable made playable. Mass Effect happens to be playable on all SD and HD TV's

Handheld thinks thats not a bad example at all Blizzard made it so everyone on any type of monitor could enjoy the game and read the text perfectly while Handheld finds the text on ME2 to be barely visible unless close to the tv.

I never said it wasn't playable, and I also never meant it as a direct comparison. You said that BioWare isn't obligated to optimize for older tech, yet I provided a very solid example of a company optimizing for older tech. It was never meant to be a one for one.
Like I said, it's just text. It doesn't take away from my enjoyment of the game so far, but it's something they should of considered, for ANY kind of TV.

Spending money, blowing money whatever you want to call it, it means the same thing. I'm not saying its a waste of money and I know one day I'll be buying one but for now I certainly dont think they should give up support for SDTV's. Given the current condition of the economy I dont think HDTV buying is exactly up this year. I know there are plenty of people out there still with SDTV's. Plus the text size has nothing to do with the tech. They control how big or small the text comes out to be.Junebug88 wrote...

Handheld thinks that its your kind of attitude that is making it so hard for us hard workers who actually have to work for a living and provide for a family instead of buying HDTV's hate people with your attitude.
Handheld thinks who cares if Handheld wants an HDTV Handheld will go get one when he has the money until then Handheld expects to be able to read the text in a game that literally has thousands of lines of text.

Lol technology is getting held back yet 3-D equipped Tv's were just announced at this years CES? Believe me technology is advancing much faster than you might believe. Why do you think a new graphics card comes out every year? New tech even if its not a substantial improvement over the last modelDeepGray wrote...

Clearly Handheld does not wish to be apart of your cool club then and Handheld will stick to his SDTV Until Handheld can find the proper time to purchase and HDTV.

Would the same font size be acceptable in Mass Effect 2?
We aren't trying to hold back video game technology. We just want them to bring back the old style for one cosmetic element that does not effect the core of the game.
This wasnt supposed to be a big anti futurism thread

I was able to fix it using the the component (progressing scan) inputs instead of the composite ones. That sharpened the text up nicely although that may not be a solution for everyone

Yes, I realize how fast technology advances but the adoption rates for new tech is low. We are not talking about 3D TVs, just a regular HDTV or monitor. Don't even start on graphics cards. There's a lot of off-topic reasons why they don't "seem" to be substatial improvements in gaming.Hellrazer360 wrote...

I don't think we can "hear" the radial menu choices (most of them are fine, but they become hard to read if the scene behind Shepard is too bright) or the personal e-mail.
Nice try sport.

Maybe you could've spent a little less time making a gigantic DLC scavenger hunt and a little more time making the game playable for everyone. Im sure its probably been said to death, but text is completely unreadable on SD TVs.
I am enjoying the game (about as much as I can) but is this a sign showing how you plan on treating your customers in the future? Considering how much I've enjoyed your past games, this is really disappointing.
This whole game seems to have been more about hype and scavenger hunts, than any kind of sound, thorough technical work under the hood, to make sure the game even works. It's down right ridiculous, for a developer of Bioware's stature, to put out a game that was so unplayable.
So, eh, good job Christina. It all looks very pretty, but it doesn't work.

The graphics card was just an example. You said hold technology back, nothing about adoption rates. My comment was technology isnt getting held back. Having a low adoption rate is different than holding technology back.DeepGray wrote...

I understand your annoyance, but you need to understand that the SD TV is a dying breed. The people who review these games, and avid gamers, have forked up their hard earned money to play these games in HD. However, your argument is still valid. How hard would it be to make a text size option?
