Evolve

Evolve is just a cheap knockoff of Left 4 Dead, which Turtle Rock Studios also made. The difference is instead of players being zombies, one player is a monster.

I can see dedicated servers would be a good thing and also give the option to host games as well. Mostly making it so there's is more cross platforming then dedicated servers so more population of players.

Evolve is a fun game.  The Elder Kraken that just got released yesterday is very good.

That game 100% deserves all the hate that it got.  It still does, but when you go buy the Ultimate Edition for 30 or 40 bucks then that is a good buy.

The thing about Evolve is that the developers don't give a **** about the people who play the game or the experience and that is the reason why I don't play it.  1 dude plays the monster and his friend will auto match with him taking the trapper role and then refuses to dome.  Or people bring Laz and will dance on your body and shoot and won't revive you and Turtle Rock gives you no way to kick players.  It is infested with trolls.

There is some huge patch in the works that's supposed to come out soon.  If they give people a way to kick players from their games I will return to the MP and love the game.  If they don't then Evolve will be the last Turtle Rock game I ever buy.

Yeah I just was bored with it myself. I was a closed alpha tester and it just became redundant to me. I think the game just lacking a lot of content at release really hurt it. I thought the idea behind the game was solid, but just not enough in the game to really keep me interested.

Evolve is nothing like Left for dead. Left for dead is a survival horror game while Evolve is a hunting game. The entire hunting and tracking concept is not in Left for dead.

The specifics are slightly different. The basic concept is the same. Asymmetrical gameplay in which players are competing against each other. Turtle Rock Studios changed some of the rules, but it's essentially the same thing as L4D.

You're talking about custom games rather than ranked games? Yeah, the community on any multiplayer game is really key but adding a kick vote is not really helping. It's no where near as bad as you make out but I will freely admit to rolling my eyes a few times at players while playing evolve.

But the game itself is brilliant and unique. It has a very high learning curve which is also unfortunate for what is primarily a multiplayer game.

No, I am absolutely talking about ranked games.

I see no way whatsoever how yo think that. Adding a kick vote would not only help, but fix the problem.  Your experience may be different than mine, but this is not a rare occurrence.  Now if you want to play the monster then you can have some good games.  Most of the good players play in private groups and the competition will be there.  But when its like ok...enough monster.  Time to play some hunter.  It happens within 1 or 2 games.  Some of it may be that the players are so god awful they cannot perform the most basic gameplay requirements, but a lot of it is purposely trolling.  Seeing what I have seen the vast majority is just people trolling.

Now the last thing you said is fully true.  That game has no mercy.  You don't get encouragement, you don't get your hand held, you don't get of jail free cards.  You get an ultimatum.  You can either get good and play well...or you can f'n die.  I love that and that is the main thing that pulled me into the game.  And that goes for monster and hunter.

You can't queue with friends as a monster and a hunter in ranked hunt so your talk about a hunter throwing the game doesn't make sense to me. I've never seen that. Kick votes get abused in any multiplayer game. You talk about trolls, and yes it is an issue, can you imagine how frustrating it would be if you are at the point of winning a ranked hunt match and a group of 3 kick you for s**** and giggles. Kick should only ever be a feature before a game imo.

All this can be avoided of course by playing with friends. It is unfortunately a game where friends are quite important if you want to play as a hunter. PUGs are frustrating, but I believe that is generally because of the learning curve issue rather than deliberately trolling.

You can still automatch in though.  Although most trolls are going to just pick the medic role.  A trolling trapper is pretty rare vs a medic.  You're right and I'm sure some of it is not on purpose...some of it is.

We just don't see eye to eye.  To me dealing with the bad that would come with a voting system is way better than what we have now.  Unless I missed it you can't even kick before a game in Evolve.  And believe me...I've looked.

I only started playing Evolve recently.  I refused to buy it until there was an "Ultimate Edition"  most of the people I did find to add hardly play anymore.  Playing with friends would be the ultimate fix.  If you can find 3 consistent people.  I still believe a kicking feature is a hugely positive thing in a game.  I have my gripes about Evolve, but overall I like it.  If you had any sort of control over your game then I would probably be playing right now.  It is what it is.  For those that do not want that then Evolve is definitely delivering on that front.  I have pretty much moved on from it at this point.

Man, people put too much stock in dedicated servers. And once again, a thread has devolved into a pointless MP vs SP 'debate'. BioWare's gonna do what they're gonna do, and no amount of petulant whining from either side is going to change that.

Yes, dedicated servers are undoubtedly better than P2P. However, they're not the magical cure-all that people love to present them as. If your internet's bad, a dedicated server isn't gonna fix that. Data still has to be sent from your system, processed by the server, and then updated data has to be sent to your system. Now repeat that process dozens of times every second the match goes on. If you're playing on a bad connection, your experience is still gonna suck. If you live far away from the server you're connecting to, meaning it takes longer for the data to reach it's destination, your experience is still gonna suck.

But as I said before, dedicated servers are still a tremendous improvement over peer-to-peer. However they won't help with that one guy in your lobby who "must be playing from, like, Africa or something".

It's not going to happen.

1. Because console players are more than happy to pay for online without getting the use of dedicated servers in return

2. EA will focus on efficient ways of maximizing margins. Why spend on something that does not factor into whether their game gets bought or not by a very large proportion of their player base?

Although, that said, what about implementing client side hit detection like Planetside 2?

Dedicated servers have been disappearing for most games for years, heck a game that is pure multiplayer like Destiny is a peer gameplay setup.  The only games I see that are staying dedicated servers are persistent worlds anymore.

.....How was Portal 2 innovative? It was a sequel to Portal 1, which is just a puzzle solving game....

Understatement of the centuary...

I would like to see it happening, as it would help people who do not live in the privileged regions of North America, West and East Europe (where most of the gaming community lives). Playing from outside these regions with people who live there may suck due to high latencies. Also, having dedicated servers would encourage people to acquaint themselves with local players. However, I kinda assume we won't see dedicated servers, unless ME:A MP happens to be a competitive shooter.

ME3MP and DAIMP were co-op games. They weren't like competitive shooters where lag arguably matters that much. Though some levels of competition existed in ME3MP and DAIMP, that was entirely due to the community and the players themselves, it was not part of the games' design. I believe chances are ME:A MP will be more of the same.

I strongly disagree. I enjoyed ME3:MP to a degree, it was rather charming.

The main reason I stopped playing relatively quickly was the almost constant lag and disconnections.

And before you ask, both my PC and my internet are up to the task, and I played in the past a few multipplayer games without any notable problems. (SWTOR, The Secret World, and a few others)

In my opinion this is just another example of EA's anti-consumer attitude, they cut costs without much consideration for anything other than their bottom-line.

Who said anything about multiplayer in MEA? I hated ME3's copy/paste multiplayer that was clearly a rip-off of Halo's Firefight, Gear's Horde, CoD's Zombies, etc.

I'd rather have coop than another boring ME3 MP that is nothing more than a tedious and redundant grind attempting to encourage people to spend money on silly microtransactions.

Well if people wanna do that who are you to stop them? If people don't have the patiences to errand the in-game cash for the packs than let them at it I say lol.

I played evolved at my friends place once, its a enjoyable game but not worth the purchase. Its MP is focused on doing the samething over and over so it was obvious the longer the game was out the more difficult it would be for a player like me who just likes to casually step in every once in awhile. I mean I thought I would enjoy this COD game because I haven't really played one too much since MW3 but I was dead wrong on that. SW: Battlefront I haven't played it as much as I thought, got to rank 50 and quickly grew bored of it. Issue with many games these days they are trying to be a copy and paste of something they arent.

Star Wars Battlefront by Dice should've kept how the originals were and add to it, they tried to hard to make it their own thing that it really at times feels like a SW Battlefield skin rather than what Battlefront is. But the most issues with MP titles is it caters to camping rather than going out there and blasting a bunch of people and having fun.
