There was a secret alliance.

Krogan sounds like bobby brown trying to say "Crikey mate" after a coke binge.

The krogan rebellions was over before the batarians joined citadel space so the krogan as a specious are incapable of waging a traditional war with anyone. They simply don't have any ships or unified armies. Past that, the batarians are more like a yappy dog then a pit bull. They did fight with humanity for control of the skillian verge using proxy forces giving slavers and pirates money and weapons to attack humans and were absolutely crushed by a race that had been in space for a couple of decades. If they had faced off with any of the major powers they would be annihilated.

Hence the Bring Down The Sky DLC. And as mentioned in the Arrival DLC. And throughout the Codex, Shepard's backstory and countless coversations throughout the trilogy.

I think one possible solution to Krogan overpopulation after the Reaper war(If you cured the genphage) would be to let them settle now depopulated Batarian colonies.

It's not so hard to imagine that the Krogan might encounter natural conditions in Andromeda that would keep their numbers in check even if the genophage was cured, is it?... just as the natural conditions on Tuchanka kept their numbers in check before they managed to overcome them to a point where their population exploded. EDI does mention challenges with supplying them with food on Palaven... saying something about them having to rely on the nutrients stored in their humps. The Krogan are as vulnerable to the "alien" conditions of the Andromeda Galaxy as any other organic species would be.
The same could hold true for the Milky Way Galaxy after the Reaper War... no guarantee that the effects of the war didn't create some unforeseen conditions (like poisoning their food supply) that might affect the Krogan and keep their numbers down despite a cure for the genophage.
To answer the original question - the Batarians are not described in the Wiki as being a "warlike species"; but rather, they are described as: "a disreputable species that chose to isolate itself from the rest of the galaxy." They came into conflict with humans because humans began settling in the Skylian Verge and the batarians were already settling there. So, the logical conclusion is that the Krogan never actually attempted to colonize worlds where the batarians were already settling.

I don't see how considering the Batarians couldn't beat humanity who has the smallest army in the galaxy, smallest population and lowest % of soldiers, and had only been building interstellar ships for a few decades. The three council races could not beat the Krogan in standard combat. Even with the genophage and only access to merc and pirate ships they could probably still wipe out the batarians if they all got together and tried but we know they won't. Still, no krogan world would ever fall to a batarian invasion while over time I cold see krogan raids individual clans invading batarian worlds and taking them piecemeal, one province at a time.
