So I just played The Division Beta over the weekend and what struck me, at least in relation to what I'd like to see in the new ME:A, was the movement animations of the male and female character... they were pretty much the same... but then it was mostly running, taking cover, jumping over stuff and sliding over the hood's of cars...

But my point is that I know the FemShep animation was a little troubling at times in ME3 but I don't want to see us going to the other extreme... as we might see in Star Citizen (comments about all the female avatars will have to have boots with heels for height or some such nonsense)

I guess I'm looking for realism to aid immersion... you really can't strut as if your on a catwalk if your wearing any kind of workboot/combat boot (Aria and Miranda pulled it off due to the clothing and the opposite of work boots) so lets not have too much difference between the male and female animations

Yeah so that's my ramble that was prompted by running around and shooting things for many hours this weekend... and I was also happy to read a tweet from a bioware guy saying he couldn't find anyone to have coffee with as they were all in a meeting discussing romance options... yay for romance (although if there is an asari option on the table I probably won't be looking much further at least not on the first play through)

I take it you didn't play DAI? The hip sway was absolutely over the top! I doubt it will change for MEA.

Scientifically speaking, apparently gravity has a different effect on women in the world of Thedas than it does on men. As a result, women are forced to viciously sway their hips back and forth in order to maintain their balance as well as boosting their sex appeal. It's an unknown phenomenon that the most powerful mages of the circle and leaders of the chantry have not been able to unravel.

However, given that Mass Effect Andromeda is taking place in an entirely new galaxy where the laws of physics are foreign to us, it's possible the hip sway may be augmented even more for women. Of course, there is no way for us to really know. What I do know is I don't want to go back to this...

Yep. That's what happens when a biscuit as hard as a brick is shoved up your rear early in the morning...

Thankfully, I expect the quality of the running animation to be night and day from ME3. I can't promise you anything in terms of the hip sway debacle. However, I think we likely can both agree that we don't want to run like retards either.

It's so you don't get bored from all the walking around you have to do in DAI.

I just ride the horribly implemented mounts that barely even function properly.

They function slightly better than dragons did in Skyrim:

The laws of physics are universal.

The laws of physics are universal.

What I meant is the pull of gravity, the composition of elements, the raw resources on a planet, etc. are different for every planet. Much of what we know is based on our limited understanding of the Earth. To go to another planet, let alone another galaxy, would turn much of what we know upside down.

Plus, phenomenon, such as black holes and quantum mechanics even make our understanding of physics questionable. We've only really scratched the surface of how our solar system, let alone the galaxy, other galaxies, or the universe, even works. It's all theories, speculation, and conjecture.

Yes, less exaggerated animations for males and females would be better. Then again, character animations have never been Bioware's strong suit...

Just because you didn't like an aspect of the game doesn't mean the developers were lazy. Animation is RPG seems to be something not easy to do. Even the best RPGs strunggle with that. Mass Effect, for instance.

And that is one of the reasons that I believe animations will be a key aspect of Andromeda. That is a area that if Bioware delivers, it can really set MEA apart from previous RPGs.

Animation showdown! Can MEA top them all or fall into animation mediocrity????

They tend to have the one size fits all approach. In favor of Broshep. Females sitting down in ME2 and 3 came over as rather vulgar. Especially if you outfitted them with the Kasumi mission dress or the N7 one of ME3.

I fear, the won't change that and I really don't know what it is that keeps them from doing so. In other, and better moddable, games, the community provided the necessary animations within weeks or months after release. So it can't be that hard. Also, Bioware already had the animations in the Citadell DLC. Femshep could sit like a woman there and didn't walk like a cowboy after a long ride.

Using the same animations for both sexes? You liked that? Whatever lights your saber.

Sure, it doesn't mean that they were lazy but it doesn't mean that they weren't either.

As far as actual gameplay animations, a lot of those were just bad. Bethesda has the same issue.

Yeah, but Bethesda games are usually heavily modded within days. Including animations.

I'd just like if once we had animations where you wouldn't have to negatively notice them all the time. They don't have to be surprisingly good- they just have to be okay. In general I'd love if Bioware just went more neutral with animations, they could either have gender neutral animation or just tone down both female and male animations.

Only on PC though. Although supposedly FO4 is supposed to be able to get mods on consoles. We shall see.

Only if the particular hardware companies agree at all, which costs Bethesda money, by the way. And it's still up to Sony or Microsoft, which mods they allow.

Which is another reason why I never went console, since you never are fully in command of what you upload to that piece of hardware you bought.

I thought the Mass Effect 1 animations were okay. They were nice and fluid, almost like a person who was actually jogging.
