I admit i didn't particularly mind the combat on my 1st playthrough, nor my 2nd, but not being able to walk 2ft in the likes of Emerald Graves without stumbling into a group of enemies soon becomes  laborious.  Especially when it's not uncommon for another group to suddenly spawn right after the closure of a rift or even during a fight already in progress.  Nightmare difficulty only adds to the issue.

Sometimes I just want to wander around taking in the scenery, looking at things I may have missed first time around, yet it's almost always interpreted by a group of wolves magically spawning, or bears or another group of enemies.  Another area that's horrendous for groups just appearing is top half of the Hinterlands, near the large fortress.  Can't move any sort of distance without a group of bandits, dogs or bears spawning all over the shot.

I like my combat, but come on if you're gonna give us an open world at least give us some respite to appreciate the more detailed areas within any given map.

Yeah, the enemy spawning proximity/frequency is ridiculous.

What game did you play? Almost all areas are empty after I clear the quests for me.

I thought combat/exploration balance was just about right. My big pain point was always feeling compelled to finish every little side-quest or collection mission but that's my fault.

Yup. Enemy spawning does get rather annoying after a while. I've had enemies spawn right on top of my party. What were you thinking Bioware....Better not do that again in the next game.

There are a couple areas that are bad for this. Many spawns are turned off via completing various quests, though.

OTOH, you don't necessarily want the animal spawns to go away since they drop useful crafting mats.

Spawning is ridicules. You clear out an area and come back to it shortly and there are enemies again. How many times do I have to kill these stupid spiders?

I think it's the quality of the combat rather than the quantity that is the problem. Apart from the dragon fights, the combat just doesn't satisfy me. It's very spammy and repetitive and the PC controls aren't that great.

The problem of excessive respawning enemies goes in hand with the poorly resourced craft system, if enemies don't respawn you'll end up without crafting resources.

This is why they need to ditch the current resource scoundring and go back to DA2's mark and forget system to let real merchants and miners get materials for the wealthy and powerful protagonist.

DAO had it right, enemies died just once after you occupied a certain territory while new enemies only appeared on special random events instead of teleporting out of nowhere. It get rather egregious when you find Inquisition soldiers amidst a pletora of respawned beasts without even paying attention to their surroundings.

It does get annoying sometimes yes. I once gut stuck in an infinite loop of fighting bears on the wounded coast at low level. Whenever I killed of one the next one would spawn right next to my party, until I finally had enough and just ran away abandoning my companions to die at the claws of the latest bear.

Interesting idea. How could this be implemented? Once you have, say, 20 silverite sources marked you can craft any item with a schematic that requires 20 metal slots with silverite in the slots? How many could you then craft?

I had the exact same thing happen to me in that area.  Just as I was done with one, another appeared and another ...

I fully appreciate the need for mats, but sometimes things begin to just get too busy and instead of spending any time in the area, you just rush through it.  Not always because you're struggling, but because I'm not standing around needlessly fighting enemies over and over again.  In the emerald graves, after closing a rift, 2 packs of wolves appeared in quick succession, then a group of bandits and if that wasn't enough, a group of templars.  It was insane and not fun.

The frequent combat and respawn rate were some of the things that reminded me of an MMO.

I must have a bug or something. After I clear out most areas and seal the rifts, I hardly find any enemies to level up with and find myself running around a barren map.

Hey, at least it's not the ****** Deep Roads.

Ugh that damn Descent DLC! It took forever for me to realize the spawning was endless until I stopped it myself.

Apologies if it's already been mentioned, but everyone absolutely MUST loot the Token of the Packmaster and wear it in the wolfy areas. It makes the wolves friendly so they won't attack. BUT there is sometimes the problem where it doesn't work when you enter a map, and I've found that the best thing is to spam on/of of the thing several times on entering. It can be buggy, but is SO worth it when it does work.

I think it also works on followers, but I'm not sure. But you might as well keep it in your bags anyway so you don't forget about it. It's one of the few items I never put in storage.

It sadly does not work on the hyenas in the desert areas.

Like mentionned above it's a respawn problem (Hafter wood , and those damn spiders in Jaws of hakkon were awful).

I know one time I cleared an area in the Hinterland , I looked at the scenary for 2 seconds , turned around , and paf you had a camp of refugees who just arrived , build a campfire and sat down while I was looking away.

I don't know if it's in the same area, but I saw a group of refugee dressing a campire on water, that was weird and funny at the same time

Pointless mook spawning felt like punishment for playing the game. Just added to my dislike of the zones.

In the Hinterland?

I had the campfire in the middle of a small river too.
