Will Calpernia return in DA4?

I know it must have been asked before but since the search feature didn't give me squat I must raise this question once more.

In the end of What Pride Has Wrought, no matter which choice you take Calpernia is not given a clear death. If you fight her she jumps from a cliff and disappears, if she is convinced to turn on Corypheus she disappears as well and if you sided with the mages then she doesn't even make an appearance in that playthrough despite existing in canon.

My point is that, unlike Samson who is unsympathetic and whose death will come shortly due to red lyrium infection, Calpernia is given substantial character development and an unclear fate at the end of DAI.

So do you think she will return or will she become the new Velana whose unconfirmed death and possible return just slips the mind of the developers?

Personally I'd like to see Calpernia return as a major NPC or even as a companion given that the next game takes place in her home country and she has likely lost most of her power since falling out with Corypheus.

I hope not. If she does, I hope we can bring that monster to justice for all the atrocities she committed.

Hard to say since, she only appears in inquisition IF you side with the Templars.

Samson turned people into red lyrium for fun and profit but besides killing a lot of people in the name of her faction, which is expected from a frontline general, Calpernia freed slaves and had noble goals believing Corypheus truly wanted a better world.

Yet canon implies that she still exists but fell out of favor with Corypheus.

I know and I agree that making both sides and plotlines mutually exclusive was a dramatic but poorly minded choice from the developers but the point here is that Calpernia doesn't die in neither the Templar or the Mage routes.

Did I say Samson wasn't as bad? No, I did not. Samson's list of crimes do not negate Calpernia's. And sorry, but you are wrong. Calpernia and her Venatori were involved in mass slavery, mass killings, mass blood sacrifices, and other heinous acts. At least with Samson he faces punishment for what he's done. If Calpernia returns, I want the same thing to happen to her.

Why does everyone have a fetish over this secondary background character?

I would seriously laugh if Calpernia returns in DA4 and an Inquisitor who sided with the mages has no idea who she is. Considering the default is ally with mages, I wouldn't be surprised if this somehow happens

It would be cool to have an Anti-Fenris.

Odd, I was under the impression that Calpernia bought slaves to free them and was generally well treating of her subordinates. It's also important to notice that unlike Samson she didn't have full control over her faction's actions as the Venatori are comprised of several members who joined for different reasons.

It's just that, for all the damage she does, Calpernia is portrayed as a good intentioned but misguided character.

I could see her reappearing after losing her affiliation to the Venatori and trying to find a new path. For all intents and purposes she isn't morally worse than Thom Rainier who slaughtered an entire family and let his subbordinates be hanged just for money, if you can forgive him for trying to make amends then you can forgive her.

Why not? People develop a fondness for background characters all the time - it happened with Cullen, and with Harding and Abelas as well. (I admit that I do not get the Abelas thing, but different strokes for different folks.)

It's okay, Hanako hates Blackwall, too. (Which is fair enough, given what he did.)

Who's Abelas?

Or Harding for that matter. Calpernia at least has the excuse of being a minor antagonist. And the only opponent of note that comes remotely close to being nuanced.

The countless slaves being worked to death in the Hissing Wastes under her orders beg to differ. And yes, she does. She is the leader of the Venatori, so those other individuals are her subordinates following her orders.

What Andraste said.

I hope we see her again in the next game, whether as an ally or antagonist, she is a very interesting character.

What Andraste said.

I don't remember the slaves in the Hissing Wastes being there under her orders and she doesn't have complete control of the Venatori just because she is their leader.

Samson has complete control over the Red Templars because they are biologically bound to Corypheus, what he or his master says goes.

Calpernia is more of a talented field commander used as a puppet leader by Corypheus, she is an ex-slave placed in command of a faction of blue blood supremacists in name only as Corypheus clearly intended to bind her as a living Google search from the beggining and valued only her fighting prowess.

However, none of this matters, you are the hanging type of Inquisitor so I'd rather not clash with incompatible viewpoints.

Whoever said anything about hanging? People can pay for what they've done and have justice served in other ways than being killed. Just ask pretty much any civilization throughout history.

Thom Rainier faces the death penalty if you don't free him from prison and Calpernia would likely face death or tranquility for working for a darkspawn magician.

Thedas is a medieval society, the only character with a potentially merciful and reformist mindset is your PC while society at large and the bulk of your companions would just have everyone executed for minor offenses.

I side with the mages always so idk if her reappearance will be all that special. I figure they'd just say she died either way but they could bring her back if they really wanted ofc.

For Thom Rainier, that's up to and on the Orlesians, not me. It is them he wronged, so it is them who should decide his fate. Unlike a lot of other situations, the Inquisition has no valid voice in that matter. Even then there are times I free him, but then have him serve as a conscript(until Trespasser since at that point the Wardens claim him), having him spend the rest of his life fighting to protect others. And yes, Calpernia almost certainly would. But considering she and her people killed thousands to tens of thousands of people and inflicted suffering on millions, while planning to do it to literally everyone on the planet who won't submit, that's not an unreasonable ruling.

And? As you said, my character can have a different mindset. It's not unfounded, since other characters have similar mindsets. In all of my playthroughs of DAI, I've never done the execution option when it came to judgements. Unlike Thom Rainier and Calpernia, my Inquisitors aren't murderers.

I do suspect that she was given a vague fate specifically to free her up to come back in the next game.  What role she'd have is anyone's guess.  It might be interesting to have her and Maevaris as two of your three mages, though.  They'd offer very different views on the Imperium.  Especially if the third was a conservative Imperial Magister.  But that would be unlikely to happen since we'd then end up with three human mages all from Tevinter and I think they like to have more variety (even if there would be a tremendous amount of idealogical variety in this situation).

No returning character please, new cast of companions. Return only Solas and Morrigan/Mythal, well because reasons, maybe some other if plot needs it.
