Is it just me or are credits completely and utterly useless?

I have like 300 000 credits saved up. I think ive had a total of two chances to spend them and I just now go to the omega 4 relay. What gives? Why doesnt anyone on the ship sell weapons or anyone really for that matter?

I believe Omega, Citadel and some other places sell upgrades you can use.

Yea, the credit system in ME2 is completely messed up. The economics in the game is completely horrid.

in mass effect 3 they should implement the EVE online style economy. By the way, I really hope they have begun work on ME3 because im not sure how long I can wait. ME2 is amazing! Finally a sequel that actually shows improvement over the predecessor.

Buy upgrades and see how fast those credits will be spent.

It might be just me but the credits are more useful in ME2 than ME1. But that's because I didn't care about items and hated having to go through and get rid of useless things and turn them into omni-gel, so i'm also glad they got rid of the inventory cause they didn't get it right in ME1. In ME1 everthing was overpriced, you could find everything you needed. Now it feels like the items are actually helping you. Not to mention cool details with things you can purchase, so I completely disagree.

Thats a good point I forgot about that. That crap was so annoying with the omni gel and what not. When I get a new weapon in ME2 I actually get excited haha. I take back what I said and completely agree with you. I just wish I could trade in credits for resources so I can make improvements to my ship.

actually trading in resources for credits or vise versa would be a good idea.

I spent mine regularly on upgrades from stores and research etc.
I also bought trinkets - fish, space hamster, ship models...
Have you not bought anything then?

I'm quite early in the game yet, but I've got no shortage of research upgrades to buy.
On another note - I just love the way gear and upgrades are done in ME2 over ME1. ME1 felt a bit like Diablo, with frequent loot that was usually just vendor trash. Sifting through countless weapon 'drops' to find the occasional useful upgrade was tedious and didn't fit the game. Mass Effect is about an epic playthrough and tough choices, not constant minmaxing and loot whoring to collect rare drops and whatnot. It feels like their inspiration shifted from Diablo-esque looting to a mix between RTS upgrades (where each one is meaningful and you have to trade off between options due to limited resources) and TF2 gear choices (where each option has a purpose and a task it is best at). I guess you could call it resource management rather than resource accumulation; the focus is on making tough choices as you progress to specialise your squad to your style of combat and tactical needs, rather than a constant progression of incremental upgrades. I often find myself not using my most advanced/upgraded gun of a particular type because a different model of that gun type suits my squad and/or my mission much better. Any time I go mess with my squad's gear, it's because I'm making a strategic decision to change my loadout, not because I want to see if that latest rank 3 pistol is incrementally better than the one I have now for doing the exact same tasks.

Yea, I put almost 40 hours in and at the end I still had several upgrades to buy at stores and 30k credits. The squad tech and biotic upgrades on Illum alone are 90k, after the discount.
