Hey Everyone!

This is PatDaRat; a Lvl 18 Fighter, Lvl 20 Mage, and musical composer! Composing music has been one of those hobbies that has stuck with me. Recently I've been getting pretty excited about composing orchestral / soundtrack style pieces, which happen to fit Dragon Age's setting quite well. So I decided to create a project to share these works to the community: PatDaRat's Dragon Age Music Project.

So, I'm pretty keen on showing you guys some of my pieces (3 so far), and encouraging the DA Builders out there to incorporate them into their Modules! I'm also interested in hearing what my fellow DA'ers think them, and I'm definitely open constructive criticism!

The three songs I've uploaded to the project are:
1. Aboard
2. Incidental
3. The Wind

I'm not necessarily that creative when it comes to names. I just focus on the piece itself .

Composing music for games, tv, or even movies would be my ultimate dream job. Though, I never studied Composition at Uni . I went off and studied did Maths and Physics instead :innocent:.

Anyway, I hope you guys enjoy these pieces!

Thanks Narise! Yeah, The Wind stands out for me, because it was made a while ago, with different inspirations. I called it The Wind because I really didn't know where I was going when I composed it. The song sort of lead me, rather than the other way around. :)

Thanks for the feedback! I composed Incidental recently, and quite quickly, compared to the other pieces. I didn't want to be caught up spending too much time on the one song.

I'm wondering if you guys any comments on how I could improve on my music? What aspects do you think are missing, what could be worked on, etc?

I wish I could listen to it. At the moment my zip program doesn't want to work.

The last two are real nice, Aboard. I don't know something about it didn't seem right, it felt like at times part of your instrumentals would go off key. I'll listen to it again when I get a chance, it's not bad it's just parts of it felt off. Good work all around though, I've never been able to put classical pieces together like that. What programs are you using?

you should make one that would fit the battle at Ostagar

something like Requiem for a tower meets lacrimosa

7-Zip is a very simple, free zip program you might be interested in if you can't open them.

In what way do you mean? Do the instruments seem to go slightly out of tune at times, or do you mean that some of the notes sounded like they were in the wrong key? there are some deliberate elements of dissonance in it. Could you give an example, or it just a general feeling?

To create these pieces I used Cubase primarily with Edirol Orchestral, and some misc samples. Orchestral is quite powerful, though at this point I don't have a chorus to play with; A chorus can really improve a song in wonderful ways.

Yeah, composing a song for a particular scene is the way it is usually done. I may do this some time. Though, I don't think I can compete with Clint Mansell or Mozart!:D

I appreciate all your comments! How do others feel?
