Because those are the constraints of the ME3 MP formula. There is zero new/different gameplay from the SP where you play as Shepard, a humanoid who uses guns and some powers.

So when you request non-standard species to be playable you're not only requesting new animations and tweaking a few mechanics, you're also requesting brand new gameplay with all of the balancing that entails. And as superfluous as guns may seem on some characters you can't do away with them entirely in the ME3 model. Just think of guardians and their stupid nope shield. Unless you give a kit the equivalent of pull/lash they have to use a weapon to pierce/get around that. Same for phantom/banshee/Praetorian nope bubbles to a lesser extent. And as a funny aside, consider seeker swarms that still have to climb ladders or "hop" over cover. The limitations are apparent.

Now if they do make it more open in the new game, then of course something new and different would be awesome. But even if we look at SP/MP games in general, MP does not typically introduce brand new gameplay not seen in SP. It's almost always more of the same. And ME3 is currently locked into "humanoids with guns and some powers". If that changes for Andromeda, I'm all for it. But I'm not sure how likely that is, given we seem to play a human exclusively again.

Yeah, it would be asking to break from the formula, but consider how much those types of kits would stand out and be memorable, not only within ME:A but compared to 99.9% of all other co-operative shooters/RPGS out there.

Besides, it's not like BioWare has never added in completely new gameplay mechanics never before seen in the single player or multiplayer side of the game. As much as I loathe DAMP, I still have to admit to being pleasantly surprised by the mechanics of the Virtuoso/Bard character; his personality and use as a 'joke' character not withstanding. If the multiplayer team can do something like that, then bringing a non-humanoid kit into play, complete with unique animations and gameplay mechanics, doesn't seem that far fetched.

To go back to a point I made earlier in the thread, Epic was able to add playable, non-humanoid Locusts into Gears of War 3's Beast Mode, and that was a simple third person shooter. It's not unreasonable to expect that something along the same lines would be possible in Mass Effect: Andromeda.

While I was talking about alien fur, not hairstyles, I see your point. :) It'd be nice to dream.

Not hard to do, since most of the threads on the front page are a re-hash of threads we've seen umpteen times.  B)

Have you played Rise of the Tomb Raider? Have you seen Lara's hair? I believe it's possible.

q-VOiX.gif

A huge pain in the ass, yes, but possible.

A Chewbacca-looking aliens with hair physics of that quality would eat up months of development time and make all but the most advanced PCs explode, to say nothing of consoles.

Believable hair is hard to do. Very hard. And it eats up framerate like it was open framerate season. Even to this day you need a powerful PC to play the 2013 Tomb Raider with hair physics enabled at 60 FPS. Bioware is never going to implement that in Andromeda.

Star Wars Battlefront is a more realistic expectation of what hair will look like (hopefully) in Andromeda.

Bioware and hair?

They've never done hair well. In fact it usually looks terrible. Hoping for something like Tomb Raider is setting expectations way too high and can only end in disappointment. Just hope for something that looks remotely human and doesn't have a plastic vibe.

Our only hope is for BioWare to take the hair from some other Frostbite game, developed by a studio that knows what hair looks like.

well - i always liked Douglas Adams take on these things, especially with various type of Aliens. Hooloovoo is a super-intelligent shade of the colour blue.
The hooloovoo demonstrate their dissatisfaction with the Universe by holding their breath until they turn a deep purple.
Obviously they have no hair, limbs, or other stuff you are constantly nagging about and results in many frame-drops.

I don't see any large financial arguments why we should put extra effort to simply design the game for those that can afford highend PC's with direct X 12. Or should we design for the masses, where 90% such detail is switched off anyway (ie ps4, xb1 architectures). Everyone pay the same license price anyway. Or will 10k players pay $2100 (due to limited number of buyers) for a deluxe version? Don't think so.

Over-investing time on Hair , non rigid limbs (ie rubbery), minor facial discrepancies/ looks is all drama. Do some few things for a minority of purists and move on to gameplay.

Biowares hair is laughable, every single hair mod on the nexus is 10x better than anything they have ever put out.

I vote for the Florans from Starbound.

%D0%BD%D1%8F%D1%88%D0%BA%D0%B0-%D0%BA%D1

They're a race of humanoid plants. They look like girls or boys from an anime. They're super primitive and hyper aggressive, and believe anything that isn't part plant is incapable of actually being alive, and so are also highly brutal and ruthless.

Plus they look adorable.

I do believe planets with hazards will be back.

Anyway, I'd like to see some big carnivorous planets.  They can serve as traps.  Firing at the environment as we colonize will be lot of fun.

Then primitives who would love to eat you and your squad.

All the new aliens we've seen are creatures!

thanks actually for bringing this thread on the top. I was thinking about it few weeks ago when I saw Hive on the TV show "Agents of shield", I was very surprised they did a very cool design for him O_O (far better than the original one on the comics).

Necronians

What's a necronian? In my mind, they basically look like humans, with very subtle yet noticeable differences like their pale completions and their bioluminescent eyes. Above all, their most noticeable feature is their seamless mastery of harnessing dark energy. Their entire race consists of Adepts and Vanguards who fight with huge ferocity.

As for their place in the Andromeda galaxy, they rule in an Empire that keeps to their quadrant of the galaxy. They are open to trade and are friendly to new faces, but getting on their bad side is the last thing anyone would want to do.

Their military consists of a biosynthetic technology they've created that allows them to build Living warships that are capable of self heal. Their military tactics rely on high speed heavy hitting with overwhelming force in order to negate their weakness

Weaknesses: Necronian soldiers can't fight indefinitely due to the large amounts of dark energy they wield. Fighting for too long can render them incapacitated.

Elite necronian soldiers have the ability to transform themselves into a 'super form' that allows them to dish out more damage for longer time but overuse will lead to death.

This super form gives their skin a bright blue bioluminescent colour while also forming hardened black armoured scales and plates around their bodies (joint areas, hands, feet, forearms and calves don't grow armour and therefore still glow).

A green husk with the voice of vorcha, that is the only new "alien" that you'll get and if you whine the game will self-erase.

Some trend data about PC gaming revenue surpassing console,

http://www.forbes.co...g/#76f275df6f69

Plus, with the Ultimate Windows Platform (UWP), and the interchangeability with Xbox/Win10, how long until we just have one?

I look forward to when resources don't have to be divided making different versions, ports, etc.

Compelling case.
I think there are no hard "either/or" case anymore/at all. For console, It is lately more a case of
comfort = switch it on and get on with it, no worries about compatibility, origin popups killing the game,

Most console players have a PC also - so the numbers really show the relative time that people spend work vs play once they start jobbing. The discrepancy in numbers are teens, hardcore gamers or those with a limited budget for 2-3 platforms at home.

I think it's still awhile for more parity, but I hope it happens. At least it could happen easier between MS platforms.

That said, Skyrim alone had 87% console players. That's huge. Even when the PC version has been superior all this time.
