Anyone watch Agent Carter two weeks ago? It had an important Mass Effect-related message.

Adventures are only worth going on if you manage to return in the end.

It's not verbatim but that's basically what Jarvis said.  Truer words have never been spoken.

.....Did I mention I love Jarvis in that show?  He's the greatest character I've seen on TV in quite a while.  What a....well-written character.  So...well-written.  What a....what a nugget of truth. ....Yeah....Anyone else looking forward to Andromeda?  Can't wait.  It will be such a fantastic video game adventure.

Is this one of those thinly-veiled attempts to start an off-topic thread?

Because I know of another place you could go to have these discussions...

No.  It was a tongue-in-cheek jab at the original trilogy's ending.  Please don't give the mods ammo to delete this legitimately on topic...topic.  I made this topic as sort of a jest but super serious Jack had to come in here all serious.  I'd come up with a rebuttal to her non-argument but I think I'll just leave with this.

No, it's another thinly veiled attempt to start a "Go back to the Milky Way" thread.

This sounds like the ME version of "Bring back the Hero of Ferelden."

I can assure you that wasn't the reason I made the thread.

Considering the context of what Jarvis and Carter were talking about, I'm guessing you're saying you want the protagonist to survive the events of their story?

Also, I agree that Jarvis is a great character. He's my favorite in that show.

Bingo.

Also, you have great taste in characters.  He's my favorite too.  He MAKES that show.

Wow, that is quite rude.  I'm not sure what I did to earn such belligerence but...I will endeavor to make my point much clearer in my next thread.  I humbly apologize for this inconvenience I have so inconsiderately laid upon you.  When next I come up with a thread, I shall spell every thing out clear as day.  With simple words and sentence structure. And a message that is completely in your face and obnoxiously worded so as not to confuse those who have not yet grasped subtlety or nuance.

@Chronoid: Don't mind Killroy too much. S/he is just acting out their avatar, it's not personal and happens in most threads these days. You have to admit though, that your own thread doesn't lack a certain passive aggressive touch. :)

As for the statement, I don't agree, neither for storytelling nor in the real world. There are great stories that have the hero dying in the end and there are people throughout history who arguably died for worthy causes that they sure would have classified as "worthwhile".

That said, I also think it would be refreshing to have a protagonist survive in the ME universe for a change. ;)

There are.  But they've been done to death for the past 8 years of gaming.  Time for a shift in the ending paradigm.  Can we have the next 8 years of video game protagonists living in the end and triumphing over evil without succumbing to said evil's methods?  Pretty please?  With sugar on top?  Then the next eight years AFTER that can be another wave of protagonists sacrificing themselves for the greater good because apparently it's less mainstream and we like less mainstream.

Oh, and I didn't intend the original post to be P.A.  Just all the stuff I posted towards Jack afteward.  : )

My Shepard always comes back (Destroy and EMS 3100), so I never worry, but sometimes I love a good "hero sacrifices for the greater good" vibe and then a new hero comes to pick up the sword or gun. As long as both options are there, I'm satisfied.

I balled like a baby when I beat Lufia II in the old days before the other ending was made.

-snip-

Dohoho, two can play at this game.

Hey guys, do you mind if I take you all on a road trip?  We'll have so much fun in that big ol' mobile home of mine.  Just...one small, unimportant caveat which needs to be addressed though.  At the end of the road trip, we will all horribly die as the RV drives straight into the ocean when I, against my better judgement, start drinking alcohol while at the wheel.  Sharks will feast upon our flesh and some won't even make it that far.  It will be the most agonizing, excruciating, merciless death we could ever be subjected to.

But don't worry.   That road trip will be SO worth it.
