Frankly, the polls was more about hairstyle.

No they weren't. The first round was largely about ethnicity(4 different ethnicities to choose from) and the subsequent voting was specifically about choosing the hair color of the winner from the previous round.

I was hoping that default FemShep was gonna be blonde like the preset we voted for on Facebook years ago but then that didn't happen so sure, I'm down for more blondes in the franchise. Whether or not I get the next game.

My default Shep was red-haired anyway, so I was mainly just disappointed with how the face was rendered.

...Didn't love the bang style either.

I can confirm that blonde won by a country mile and BioWare changed it to red because of the backlash from SJW morons. It was a big thing on the old BSN at the time.

Blonde won in both rounds though? Because they held two, the first was five different sheps, one of them, #5, was blonde. #5 won the first round then after people complained they held a second round with four different hair colors. Now I'm pretty sure the red version of #5 won the second round of voting.

It was a silly idea anyway.

Source? I'm prepared to accept I'm wrong but all I remember from the time is that Red 5 won in a landslide, and my half hearted googling didn't find anything about it being rigged.

Kay, I admit. That's pretty dumb.

edit: the "Death to Blonde Shepard," thing seems unfair. I get wanting variety, but that doesn't make a hair color the enemy.

Nope. It was 6 templates(3 white, 1 asian, 1 black, 1 Indian/Middle-Eastern) followed quickly by the planned second poll that was supposed to determine the hair color.

Okay I only skim read those but they appear to be refering to the first round of the contest. There were two. I've found  this wikia blog which shows the options but not results, and Giant Bomb thread which shows the red variation of #5 winning, but it isn't official.

It's like the person suddenly felt forced to play as Default FemShep. The diversity is there, originality lies with the player, and so does the personality. Sometimes I wonder if these kind of people even play the franchise instead of trying to come off as a fan. It shows.

Duuuuuuuudeeeeee........

White - pin up or whatever you want to call it won, then the blonde hair won next. There's nothing to debate here.

Right? "Death to Blonde Shepard."

Extremism, seriously. How is it possible there are so many people unwilling to draw a distinction between the act of encouraging variety and the act of shaming those who happen to fit a mold?

Just 'cause. I think the blonde hair + green eyes combination in the first one would be cool.

Strange, I thought that Red Hair was a more recessive gene than blonde? so why have Red heads and not blondes.

Because blonde hair is a tool of oppression used by The Patriarchy to kill real women(emotionally).

Well damn I guess I better go lecture my gran on how she's being part of the problem and an unwitting tool by bleaching her hair blonde all the time, I'm quite sure she'll be so deeply ashamed that she'll buy non blond dye first thing after work. That or she'll tell me to **** off. Probably the latter.

Hell now I do want to actually do this just to see her 'you're a ******* idiot' face

I couldn't help to notice your affection for blondes, lucky me cause in which I'm...
Too bad the valentines is over cause I would love to take you out for a cup of tea...
However romance isn't something that can't wait, I would still be delighted to take you out, would you accept?

Mmmmm lovely

I think I just barf in my mouth.

But I'm not around during FemShep pageant so I'm still not sure what's the big deal about it anyway. I always prefer customized Shepard and I don't need polls to decide what kind of ethnicity FemShep I should play. My Shepard is a dark-haired tanned woman of southeast asian ancestry. You know who else fits that in scifi universe as a heroine? Nobody. The only nearest woman of color in the Mass Effect trilogy who is like her was Khalisah Bint Al-Jailani who people love to use her as their punching bag. I'm surprised no one make a SJW fuss of how its acceptable to abuse a woman of color repetitively because she's annoying. I also think that she is a muslim girl so... frankly, nothing surprised me anymore.

---

Lol, and why diversity with women is always about the hair color? I had this conversation with YA lit about heroines demographics.... as in, your book are a lot more revolutionary and tend to be bestsellers if you have brunette/blonde/red-headed heroines. Always never cease to make me facepalm.

You know what the new Character Customization need. Highlights and lowlights. Give me blonde/grey/bronze/rainbow streaks.

Yeah, the myth about the hair color and intelligence should be killed with fire. I have a medical degree and I finished it with best possible grades, yet I still have to prove myself every day to all kinds of assholes that I meet for the first time.

I bet there were some weirdos about the whole blonde thing, but I think the main point about the whole "beauty pageant" was that they picked blonde, yet the ME1 and ME2 default Shepard had red hair, so it did look kind of unnecessary. It's the context that rubs people the wrong way, I guess. First Bioware realized that FemShep is popular, then they held a beauty pageant (!!) and redesign her from scratch, with blonde hair and lots of make up. So it's not about blonde people per se, but about Bioware's track record. Luckily, she stayed mostly intact, the only thing that they managed to screw up was that god awful run when in casual clothes, but that was balanced nicely with her gorilla run & shitty dancing, so no harm there.

Smart and actually a rare natural blonde.

Are you sure that you're real?  ;)

But that runaway model jog in casual clothes, it really was looking horrible.
