Does that movie hold up? I remember really liking it when it came out.

The complaining on the BSN was mainly that the poll was held on facebook, and that the blonde version won only because it was voted on by filthy casuals instead of the hard core fans of the series. It had nothing to do with social issues. The people complaining on the BSN were mainly fans of the red-haired concept, and they wanted another poll.

There were some people who complained that the poll amounted to a beauty contest and was sexist, but that group objected to any poll at all. That was also more of a Tumblr thing.

I'm not sure which group was more ridiculous.

What I remember was the blonde one won and a lot of people were complaining in the comments that Shepard would look like any other "blonde bimbo".

There were loads of comments like that. I hated it. I thought Bioware would stand firm and keep the choice along with throwing out a statement on why judging someone based on their looks can be bad but nah. We just ended up getting a new poll and a load of people who thought they had already picked the winner didn't return in time to find out that a new poll came up after they left so we ended up with the redhead again.

That didn't sit well with me. Not the new vote thing, but all the blonde bashing and Bioware staying hush about it but then going crazy over redhead love later.

That's what I was getting at. Mention blonde hair and suddenly everybody jumps on the "blondes are idiots" bandwagon.

That's some bullsh*t right there. I'm glad I wasn't around for that nonsense. This is why I'm not a fan of being diplomatic to customers, because customers are a-holes lol

To be honest, I felt the whole idea of letting fans vote on the look of the face of FemShep was just a bad idea. I think the designers should decide, and not leave it up to the fanbase. I feel that the designers meant well, but it was a pretty terrible idea. They should have realized that it was going to backfire big time, and it did. That was certainly a failed experiment. We have enough drama on the BSN without something so silly and so avoidable taking place.

From what I read, it wasn't just the "blondes are bimbos" cries that were prevalent. I read a lot of outcry saying that, "they are just going with the white female ideal. They are pandering to the white male straight base. How dare they?" Give me a freaking break. So much stress over hair, and I'm sure that it wasn't just straight/bi men that were voting for it.

I think that for the radicals, it's all about equality...so long as it doesn't cross the line of what they think is wrong. Blonde with blue eyes is bad because it's too "mainstream." It's a hypocritical mindset, and I say this as a liberal feminist. Blonde or red or black hair isn't a battle worth having imho. I've see a lot more series over the last 10 years that have women with a variety of looks. Talk about making a mountain out of a molehill.

I think the hair/eye color issues could have been easily solved by making the default Shep customizable. It seems that BW got the hint in DA:I, where we could customize our Hawke using the default face. Such a simple solution that could have saved everyone a lot of grief. Devs, if you still lurk in these threads at all, take note of that. It was one of the few things that the ME team could learn from DA:I's development.

Anyhow, how 'bout dem blondes? We've covered everything from simple preferences to debunking science from 2005 to Godwin. Say what you will about ME fans, we are a very passionate bunch. Even if it's taken to almost absurd degrees. ;)

I think that FB is capable of good hair, but BW is pretty weak at hair. Always has been. I think it's a texture and shading problem, and if we can tweak the high/lowlights of the hair, it could produce relatively natural looking colors.

Letting fans vote on the default appearance of FemShep was just silly, IMO. It was guaranteed to upset more people than it pleased. Besides, I suspect that most players either make their own characters, or use the default and don't especially care how it looks.

Agreed. I've never used the default Shep in any of the ME games. The people I've talked to say that it saves them some trouble, or they just aren't great at using the CC. I wouldn't have minded having a different hair or eye color for Hawke, but eh. I have the luxury of mods for that, so I don't stress it.

The most hilarious bit about it is that their pissing and moaning resulted in femshep having an even more rare and exclusively caucasian hair color. What utter ineptitude and fail. O5AQUoa.gif

Back on topic, another nice inspiration would be from near eastern blondes, like this other old favorite of mine, Çağla Kubat.

Red hair + green eyes wins out every time on the BSN anyway. Go through any of the "Post Your Shepard/Warden/Hawke/Inquisitor" threads and 8 out of every 10 are red haired, green eyed ladies.

I love how the BSN is pretty much just one big inside joke at this point. With the occasional confused persons serious post.

GG guys.

@Seboist: But..but...she has red hair and green eyes. It makes so much of a difference.

That was sarcasm, by the way. ;)

Another choice: I really like Emma Stone as a blonde. I also wouldn't mind her as the voice of the character either. I've always liked her

Hey, I always give my female characters black hair and decidedly not-green eyes.

Mine vary. I've done black hair/purple eyed characters (go Gibbed,) characters with brown hair and blue eyes. I've got a dark blonde character I'm playing with blue-grey eyes. The red lighting in the screenshot makes her hair look a lot more reddish, but it shows more brownish-blonde in the daylight.

My first femshep was a green eyed redhead, and then later i created a blue eyed raven as my main/canonical one. I *think* used a green eyed blonde at some point I'm not sure.

What I want to use now more than anything though, is a violet eyed silverhead, like my DOA waifu Christie.
