Chronoid, the engine was just not very good at capturing light colored hair. Clearly they don't hate blondes, otherwise they wouldn't have used blonde hair to make Kahlee Saunders stand out as "special." They were just doing their best with what they had.

I wish that the character creator used the same lighting as the rest of the game. In DA:I, I gave my dwarf what looked like brown hair and ended up being dirty blond. In ME3, my imported ME2 character's hair turned from brown to jet black.

As lovely as dark hair is, it's a shame that Mass Effect lore tends to consider blonde hair so extremely scarce. I believe Kahlee Sanders and Conrad Verner might be the only prominent blond NPCs of the Mass Effect universe, so it would be nice to encounter at least one more. Perhaps as a squad member.

I agree that the lore is... pretty silly.

There were several other blondes in the series, though I'm not sure how you would define prominent - or blonde, for that matter. Heh. Bailey, Gavin Hossle, Michael Petrovsky just off the top of my head. (it's been awhile).

I request that we avoid any claims suggesting that hair color is in some way connected to intelligence, though you are of course entitled to make any argument you please, silly as they may be.

You knew the dumb blonde jokes had to surface at some point, right?

Overall, I don't think there has been such a dearth of blondes in MEU, though many of them have been male.

Edit: To clarify regarding lore, Mass Effect fake science suggests that human genes are becoming progressively more homogenous, and that natural blondes are nearly nonexistent by the time Shepard is doing their thing. I am in fact, aware of this, and I do need it explained to me.

I'm not going to get too deep into this, but I think it's purely based on the projection that blonde hair will become increasingly less common over the next few decades. According to multiple reports, white people (and by extension, blonde hair) will have become a minority in the US by 2050. Fast forward another 50-60 years and it's not so hard to imagine a population in which blonde hair is a rarity among humans.

Have you seen The Expanse? Its story takes place around the same time as Mass Effect. Not a single blonde actor/actress in the main cast of 7+ characters.

Bottom line: I think this is why you're not seeing blondes. Am I off the mark? Possibly, but this would be my best guess. In any case, you can always make your own Ryder/Shepard blonde.

Except the one the main character was having zero G sex with in the first episode?

Bottom line: I think this is why you're not seeing blondes. Am I off the mark? Possibly, but this would be my best guess. In any case, you can always make your own Ryder/Shepard blonde.

This has been debunked several times already. No phenotype of the human genome will go away anytime soon. There is no evidence supporting a lack of blondes/redheads in the future.

Anything that starts with "One researcher discovered..." is most likely garbage. If there aren't at least a dozen studies compiling the findings of several hundred research papers, then any conclusion you read will be just a wild guess with no factual evidence.

I can go around and make photos of people outside the norm and post all of them together and say: "This is going to be the future", too. Doesn't mean it's true. Look around you, at the people you encounter every day. Their kids will look pretty much like them.

Let's do some math. There are ~78% white people in the US. There is simply no way for them to become a small minority within the next 34 years unless they get killed by a plague while everyone else survives. More than 50% of all babies born in the US are white. Yes, there is a trend for minorities to have a higher birth rate and thus steadily rising in number compared to white people. The thing is, this trend can't continue forever. Within the next two decades it will level out and reach a steady plateau. It will take centuries, if not millenia, for people to mix before "black, white, hispanic, asian" loses any descriptive meaning.

Also, it's not like the US is the entire world. It becomes way too complicated to predict how humans will develop in the far future because that depends on a multitude of factors like culture, transportation, migration etc. Each time a new conflict uproots a group of people, all the calculations essentially become worthless. Not that there is much point to them in the first place, unless you want to employ scare tactics for or versus racists.

People aren't buckets of color. The color is just the phenotypical expression of our genome, which is basically the same for every human. Even the whitest person has the same genes that allow the expression of black skin color. And we're talking about dozens, if not hundred of gene sequences that influence the amount of melanin in our skin as well as other changes to our look (shape of eyes, noses etc).

You don't mix black and white and automatically get brown-ish. There is a whole range of possible expressions and none is more likely than the other. It's entirely possible that such a child would pass as black or as white, with one parent's phenotype being expressed much more strongly.

Still, each country has a majority and that is unlikely to change anytime soon, because babies continue to be born and while things may shift around a little, no one will die out and nothing will be lost.

Even if we go to the extreme where all white people get wiped out by an epidemic, sooner or later there would be new white people because genetically all humans are the same and we adapted this way for a reason (same reason why you find more black people in Africa). Someone would adapt to the new environment and people would gradually become more white again.

Now, if there was a huge environmental shift (like... global warming), then this influences things a lot, too. Only I doubt it would have much of an impact on skin color, which is a reaction to sun light, not to heat.

tl,dr: Please stop repeating incorrect "facts" or cite fictional works as "proof". Thank you.

*snip*

Notice how I prefaced that comment by saying I wasn't going to get too deep into it, and still won't, because it's more complicated than it seems. My response to Lady Artifice was in reference to her question as to why blondes are a minority in the MEverse. That is to say, a possible explanation is that the writers were inspired by this notion, regardless of accurate it really is. If you still don't get it, I'm not sure how else to put it.

If you want to discuss the ins and outs of this, I'd be happy to take it to PM instead.

No, there is no need. It has all been said in this thread already. Including "BioWare badly needs scientific advisors" and "blondes aren't dying out", probably on the first few pages already. :)

As for blondes; i'd like to see this blonde squadmate have blonde eyelashes and eyebrows as well. I'm not a big fan of the blonde hair/black eyebrows.

Yeah I'm well aware with her case.

I don't post random pics from internet unless I know their meaning. Her name is Jocelyn Wildenstein so called "Catwoman" that payed lot of bucks to looks as feline though we see how results ended....actually according to her these are amazing results? And people say I'm weird one lol

As for plastic surgeries, not against them, though never could understand why perfectly healthy people would want to undergo knife just to "fix" something. I get people with medical conditions(my mother used to have breast cancer so after she did surgery she did plastic surgery just to get her boobs even), but I don't get why would someone ruin their nice face to become Kardashians's clone in here? Though as I say I do not oppose plastic surgeries because if someone wants to do it then they can do it, no comments from my side because it is their body and they can do whatever the hell they want with themselves.

I'm sure there is a niche somewhere for someone who wants to romance a real catwoman or catman:

We need a blonde space waifu in ME:A like Ultionus' Serena, who in her game went on an estrogen fueled rampage after being be dissed/trolled online by a "space prince",whom she (literally) ended up kicking in the balls after tearing up his palace.

I get the feeling you really quickly skimmed the OP, because the part of my post you quoted was where I said "I don't need it explained to me."

Those multiple reports you cited, as has been mentioned, turned out to be a hoax.

https://en.wikipedia...ing_blonde_gene

So, this thread is dealing with the idea that maybe Bioware might be better off ignoring that little part of their lore, since it's based on an inaccurate interpretation of science (and the design engine has progressed past the point where blonde hair looks automatically terrible in game). And maybe some of the fans would consider ourselves better off as well, since it means more aesthetic variety amongst the companions and NPCs.

And--it's not your fault, I know, because you can't be expected to read the entire thread--but you are not the first person to suggest that I just make my own character blonde. If I'm perfectly honest, I think it's a weird response in the first place. Why would anyone need help realizing they have the option to make their character blonde?

The thing I mention in the OP, is that it might be nice to have a blond companion in the next game, which isn't a thing I'm hugely invested in personally. But I know other people are because there were several threads about a blonde companion before this one that ended up locked because they became unproductive. So, this thread is for them, and it's not a representation or lack of representation issue in the sense that I perceive some injustice in the infrequency of blonde characters. It's really simply about the fact that some people want blondes and...why not?

Yes, such a fascinating Norse culture, after the Faroes (these two still remain using the ancient names). It has been for centuries for Iceland to name their babies after their fathers, occasionally mothers. Icelandic naming system is not really based on the family names, although some Icelanders do have family names/used both. Surnames in Iceland are not family names, but are rather patronymic or matronymic. Those who named after mythological and legendary figures were considered extraordinary/special, hence why so many of them took part in strongman competitions.

Nobody dares to tell these people that there's that thing called aging with diginity. Old people can be quite attractive as opposed to Botox monsters.
