Depends on what's being written. Bioware tends to have pretty weak story and lore writing, but strong character writing (at least, by video game standards). Most game developers move toward the opposite direction.

Honestly, I'm much more appreciative of good characters over perfect story than the other way around. Farscape comes to mind, I never would've though that a goddam puppet would make me cry.

For me it's characters first, lore second, story third. Most stories are just retreads of other stories. Lore on the other hand is pretty open-ended and you can make a sci-fi or fantasy setting into something incredible. Characters can be just as unique as lore can, but can also be much more relatable.

Pick your favorite blonde mullet style.

I just can't get there. Brunette lore is fine by me, and red hair, so far as I've seen in-game, is too brassy. Yuck!

You forgot Patrick Swayze & Sarah Connor.

Connor? I'm not even sure that's a mullet but Swayze sported a god tier one like the Russell.

Now i know who MGS4's younger Snake's face took inspiration from.

I'm pretty sure this horrendous style counts as a mullet, but I really admired her bravery for sporting such a thing on her head, so she gets a pass:

My femshep Esri had gorgeous blonde hair, and I was sad to not see it pretty much anywhere else in game. Although I did like feeling special too...

But yes, I want a full colour spectrum of hair colours, even ones that range into rainbow colours because I'm sure hair dye exists in some capacity.

But.... but.... hair dyes?

There are likely always going to be individuals who dye their hair blonde, but as far as I know, it is very much a western

thing. How many Chinese, Indians or Arabs dye their hair that way? It just might be they don't appreciate blonde hair as

much as Westerners do. And yeah, in ME the nations of Earth are more multicultural, but are they that multicultural?

I haven't seen it as much with Chinese, but I've seen it (hair dyed blonde) quite a bit with Korean and Japanese girls. Some guys as well.

That is because it's almost impossible to maintain dyed blonde hair when you have naturally very dark brown hair. With current hair dyes you can only hope to achieve an unflattering shade of bright orange or yellow, or spend literal hours maintaining a neutral shade. Most people who dye their hair blonde are mousy midtone brown or dark blondes, because it's easier for them to maintain it.

BUT that doesn't mean your argument isn't valid, and yes, there should be more darker haired people. What I'm saying is that there's no excuse not to have blondes as well.

I don't know why people are hating on blondes so much!? I love brunettes as much as the next person but think about Rhonda Rousey. Yeah :) right? I don't mind, it's only the color of hair you hypocritical blind fools! Maybe they'll give you an option to die a squadmates hair?

True. I was mostly talking about actual main-storylines here. Bioware does write good characters and sometimes the lore is surprisingly good as well (Dragon age lore mostly).

To clarify, I don't have a problem with a little more light hair and admittedly, it was too scarce in the trilogy. In fact, it

would be refreshing if we had a blonde squadmate for a change. But there have been three games now and in each

one blondes are few and far between. For them to appear in disproportionately large numbers in Andromeda would

be jarring. So I'm leaning toward lore in this case, even if it rests on a somewhat questionable premise.

However, I do think that a reasonable compromise between lore consistency and more blondes can be found.

But what on earth gave you the impression that blondes "appearing in disproportionately large numbers" is being suggested in the first place? That doesn't seem like a very reasonable interpretation of my original post, or any particular comments in the thread.

Blondes could probably stand to make up a larger proportion of white characters in the game than previous Mass Effects, but I'm not sure they should be a larger proportion of human characters.

Some good news for blondes: Looks like the stereotype of blondes as less intelligent than others is false (pdf link).

In the game, sometimes I like to adjust highlights and lowlights just to add some depth to the shade. In this area, I appreciate the Sims more and more.

Not all asians have black hair. My hair isn't completely dark brown either but I can't dye my hair than a couple of shades lighter or it would look awful. I've met a middle eastern girl who are naturally golden blonde (you can't hide the new growth at your scalp). I have friends sporting purple hair but actual blonde hair is really high maintenance. The only one I know who embrace it as a lifestyle was this thing. (I refuse to call her anything else)

Honestly, I wouldn't mind Miranda to have Yvonne's actual blonde hair or at least copper-brown like she sport in the cinematic trailer.

What is it with westerners and correlation between hair colors and intelligence...

What's stupid is that this question even needs to be asked, tbh. If someone thinks pigment and brain cells have anything to do with each other, I don't know what to tell them. One of the smartest women in my class at Uni was blonde, dressed nicely and was also a professional classic dancer, and now she's curing cancer at Uni clinic. I'm jealous as ****, tbh :) I always thought that it was the other way around, that relying on stereotypes was actually lazy and stupid, because it takes a special kind of brain to forego any independent conclusions about something or someone and jump straight into generalizations because they're too lazy to think for themselves.

I know you didn't suggest anything radical, but I bet there are people who'd like to go further with this. My words were

directed to the silent spectators as well, some of whom might be individuals developing the games.

In any event, I don't want to sound like I'm taking this too seriously. It's just hair, after all. There are certainly much more

meaningful things to talk about. Still, take enough of these small details and they start to matter.

If you're blonde in America you are guaranteed to be European in some amount in ancestry.  That goes double if you have blue or green eyes.  Having European ancestry allows blondes to be more flexible and eclectic in their thinking.  At least if you're American.  It's a genetic physiology sort of thing.  Instead BioWare proved themselves to be massive hypocrites and declared blondes as dumb and racially weeded out.

Honestly, the blonde thing is quite ignorable. Its only there to make Kahlee Sanders special in the novels.
