2. Blonde hair dye is particularly bad if you have raven or brown hair. Because eventually the hair follicle nearest the scalp goes back to being brown or black and everyone and their mother can tell you aren't a genuine blonde at that point.

You're assuming that the goal in colouring one's hair is to make it look as though it is naturally that colour.

That rarely seems to be the case. I see blue or green hair on a daily basis.

And also various mixtures of blond and darker hair.

Exactly. Or streaks of red or pink. Various shades of purple.

People who colour their hair are often not worried about verisimilitude.

@The topic:

Usually I consider lore consistency extremely important, but in this case it's based not just on fake science, but wrong science. Correcting that would improve any fictional world where by implication, science works as it does IRL except for some stuff needed for the story to work.

BTW, this is just one of many examples of the MEU featuring common misconceptions and prejudices about science and technology rather than the real thing. I hate it with a passion, since it spreads those misconceptions and prejudices to anyone who doesn't already know better.

Lore doesn't need to be coloured with natural science to be consistent or desirable. It could be referencing another work to add meaning through implication. For example, the decline of blondes could be a something along the lines of a subtle reference to the story of Oversoul Seven.

That's probably true. My nephew who is 5 years old is metis with curly hair. And we have no idea where he got his esmerald green eyes, while he is dark skinned. His black mother has black eyes, and his white father has quite light eyes, but they are more grey than anything else, not green at all, not even close. And not even his grandfathers had green eyes. My nephew's color eyes probably come from unknown parents in the family of the father far far in the past.

And to remain on topic, another one is metis. It's a young woman, she has weird curly hair because it's dark below and blonde on the above, while she is dark skinned. It was her natural color hair until she colored them in auburn... ( no idea why she did that but whatever.. ) Her blonde hair comes from her white mother who is blonde. It was pretty funny to watch them when they were together because they totally looked alike while they don't share the same skin at all. Even whithout knowing them, just meeting them on the streets side by side, you can easily guess they are related lol.

Also, we have a metis child in the family who is very pale, ( almost looking white ), and we have another one, his own brother who is really dark while they have the same parents. We can never really know how the genes are going to affect a new baby born when it's mixed.. That's one of the first things I've learned on this topic. So your theory, I believe it.

The face of my family has radically changed since most of my big family came to immmigrate in France 30 year ago, with the sons of the immigrants born in the country breaking the eternal norm. It was all black with black eyes, probably for centuries, now, I'm pretty sure it's going to be very mixed ( well, it's already the case ), especially when I see the girlfriends  / boyfriends of my cousins. The new generations aren't going to look like at all like people from the past. That's for sure lol.

Green eyes aren't actually green. You actually have the highest percentage of having green eyes if your parents are brown and blue eyed. I have green eyes and my mom has blue, dad brown. It is really best to remember that eye color is CRAZY complicated. We simplify it a lot in basic biology, but there is way more to eye color though. Blue eyes is the lack of melanin and collagen to the stroma. Green eyes have some melanin and some collagen which give the stroma the appearance of yellow due to the way the light scatters that makes the eyes appear green. Technically, there aren't that many different colors in the human eye. Most of what we perceive as different colors is due to the makeup of the stroma. Not the iris. Of course these are all controlled by a few different genes some have lots of melanin and others have none. Some have lots of collagen and others have none. Grey eyes are due to having more collagen while not having much or any melanin.

Lore is irrelevant with a brand new story and characters and location and new aliens.

Yes, we will have baggage characters from the MW but the story centres on the "new" and Lore issues won't raise its hydra head.

I've played all three games more than once and I don't recall any reference to blondes going extinct. Lore consistency in the primary medium is cool. Couldn't care less if they want to contradict tie in books/comics.

The reference is in the book, the first one if I remember well ME Revelations about Kahlee Sanders.

What we need are more classy and stylishly dressed blonde dames like Wild Gun's Annie, whom tamed the wild west against large sci-fi robots with automatic weapons.

Laying down woman's law after having put her slipper up the final boss' ass and wrecking the inside of his air vessel.

Holding out her hat and winking after destroying a large mechanized foe, showing how classy and sophisticated she is.

That she has the finest legs of the 16 bit era doesn't hurt either.

With this last display of legs being the reward for beating the game on hard(much more rewarding than the breathe scene in ME3)

I'm not sure I care what their intentions are.  If you want to look like a peacock died on your head then by all means, continue being vapid and fake.  I was never fond of people who dyed their hair anyway.  You may as well scream to the world

"I hate my hair and I want to look like a special snowflake at the same time!"

Also, it gives us blondes a bad name anyway..  Half serious when I say that.  If you dye your hair blonde that means you're trying to be someone you're not, on a very superficial level.  Blondes tend to be pragmatic.  Bleach blondes tend to be self-absorbed and really really mean.

Jeez. Stereotype much?

I doubt they give a damn what you think of them either, so I guess there's symmetry there

Not so much a stereotype as it is an inference. If you can't be genuine with your own hair color then what CAN you be genuine about?
Remember, hair dye is the "gateway" to plastic surgery later down the line.  Trust me, I know things.  I've SEEN things man.

I don't really have an opinion on this, but I'm going to point out that wearing clothes is also not very genuine, you hide what you are.

Hair dye is just another fashion thing, some people like it, others don't, I don't see why you read so much into it.

(sure, there are extremes everywhere, and certain types of people may be more into it, but it hardly says that everyone that uses a hair dye is X)

Wearing clothes is for warmth and not getting arrested in public.

I don't know anyone has said this but if it's the future then why not HAIR DYE. Give me my blue/purple hair  B)

I don't see why this can't be an option. They just have to do what they did with eye color and makeup color in DAI where they had some presets but also a color wheel so you could make your own.

I don't mind. I mean imagine if any of the male squadmates in Mass Effect were blonde. Imagine if Shepard was blonde!?!? It makes sense in a way. The gene will never go away but it will show up less in the future especially with many of the fair haired countries such as Sweden now accepting thousands of immigrants from around the world, and their populations aren't that large to begin with.

The genetic makeup of future generations will change. America once upon a time used to be blonder, now most of the "anglo saxon" politicians are dark haired. The British are darker today than they used to be as well. Today you're more likely to find a Blonde Australian in the metropolitan areas of Australia than you are a Blonde Brit from London. Aus are on average blonder because they've been isolated in addition to a lot of their British descendants coming from Southeast England.

There should be a variety of hair types, not just blonde. I'm partial to Red-heads as well.

If you live in a colder climate, sure. My point is, as humans we do many things that are not "natural", in every part of our lives.

We do those things because they are comfortable, fun, fashionable, healthy, or just because we feel like it.

Hair dye is just another quirk.

But those laws are arbitrary artifacts of culture, and there are many climates where you need clothing for sunscreen, not warmth.

They might be a bit nicer if you stopped standing too closely all the time.
